How is a guy who just retired from the Police Department also running a tow company at the same time on a tiny island. Talk about conflict of interest.

He felt the rate was fair because the city approved it? Not the greatest piece of evidence there pal. How about offering up come comparable prices from competitors to show it’s a fair price…can’t do it because the charge is outrageous.

That’s not his job. The govt is supposed to bid the contract. While the cheapest contract does not always win, it’s based on cost, timeliness, availability, etc.. Everything on an island is far more expensive than the mainland. Wages, property, trucks, parts, fuel, etc.. As the owner said, bring a discussion to the table if they are not happy but not paying based on the contract that thier contract professionals and lawyers agreed to is not an option. I rarely say this but I’m on the side of the tow company on this one.

If the city can “dictate” these prices, I better see city officials try and do em. Easy to talk the talk, hard to work the work pilauticians.
At least the owner was fair as far as having proof of what the city had agreed and try to mend up I can’t say it was a mistake owner was honest about what the complaint was about👍
Read the Better Business Bureau complaints about this company to open your eyes to what's really going on.
@@user-lw1pm8qi1hthe better business bureau is not a reflection of a tow company. The anyone can complain to the BB but the laws and the contracts are there for a reason. If a tow company were truly scamming people, the city would have to be the contract. I’m not “pro tow company” but this says the govt isn’t following the contract that they wrote.

is the problem the price ($9000 @ 15 minute) 1:17 for difficult hookups is too much or too many non-difficult hookups are being classified as difficult pickups? To begin with the 15-minute increments or at least the initial period should be longer since it takes more than 15 minutes to wrap the chains around a car that landed off the road. 15 minutes only encourage the vendor to run over into the next 15 minute period and into the bonus round. Something's fishy
What people are overlooking is what he pays per month to store cars that he cannot legally get rid of. How do you think that gets paid. City needs to either allow the pricing or provide a lot at a much much lower cost. Everyone wants the business to eat the cost without knowing the cost of business.
the military problem has been going on for decades & decades. When had the gulf war, the deployed just abandoned their vehicles anywhere becuz they wasn't sure they gonna return at all aka in a body bag. While it would be fair if the military stored the abandoned vehicles on their own lots, All Island Towing has plenty of room on their lot to sqwauk about it as a hardship.
@@ronw8628 it’s a lot that they have to pay for. The city has them tow vehicles the tow company has to hold car until they can legally get rid of it. Military cars require greater steps and time to get rid of all at the cost of the tow company. I am a business owner and people don’t know the entire costs of business. It’s not just the tow, it’s the insurance for business and vehicle and the employee, building and lot fees, licenses, equipment. Only 10% of tows were found to be questionable by people who are not professionals in the field. He provided information on over 8000 tows. City needs to provide a lot where the towed people can deal with the city.
Yeah so once again local taxpayers paying for the military and their BS. Ok.

This didn't just happen overnight. And what always surfaces when the corruption of city and state government comes to light? Ties with current or former HPD members or city prosecutors. Hawaii government has always been a cesspool.

They aren't talking about the more than $1000 tows that's been happening on the regular with these guys. Simple tows that don't require extra time or specialized equipment. Just because this guy was a cop once doesn't mean he is on the up and up. More is happening between these guys and the city. This report is downplaying what is really going on behind the scenes. The Mayor's comments make him complicit in what is shaping up to be a city orchestrated scam whilst using this particular contractor. One whos BBB rating has been revoked and had a pending lawsuit with the city prior to winning the contract bid. Something definitely stinks here.
agreed, the price for regular tows are excessive and that issue should have been addressed by the mayor since its obviously the reason why people are upset at the tow companies, 'difficult hookups' not withstanding. The audit might have uncovered some $900 difficult hookup surcharges that were wrongly tacked on to non 'difficult hookups' and the drivers will get their money back all the while drivers are getting robbed by the regular hookups on a daily basis. This is on top of the traffic fines. The mayor purposedly didn't take the opportunity actually avoided the issue.

kinda hard not to. If the vehicle owner doesn't squawk they keep the money. Not all vehicle owner squawk. It's worth the gamble.
If your car is in this situation and your present (not injured, not arrested), you have a right to call another tow company. You are not forced to use the city contract unless it creating a hazard and your tow company cannot respond in a reasonable time.
