Gove's ability to spout utter tosh with exaggerations and half truths is yet another testimony to the utter lack of morality and decency in the Tory party
He's always been like that. Typical tory.
I totally agree with you but would have replaced “utter tosh” with “utter bolocks”✌️
"Judge me and this government on our actions" - oh I am mate. I am.
Haha i literally said the same thing out loud
Yeah, we'd love to judge them on their actions - but they refuse to call a general election!
Best comment
Gove wants to be judged ... is Judge Dredd style ok ?
It was good to see Gove get a hard time this morning. I'm not a fan of confrontation but it's hugely frustrating as listener to hear politicians just trot out party lines and pretend everything is going well. It's not. We deserve honesty from the people who govern us!
13 years of decline. Things are worse, not better. Tax burden, NHS waiting lists, public services etc etc...
Etc etc etc etc etc etc...etc...
I would be happy with any government if it did it's best but I'm not expected anything good with any change next year. Having seen many labour and conservative government over many decades I expect people will be disappointed with their choice. I do hope we don't return to the 70's though where the country was constantly on strike and things were not good all be it the pop music cheered us up!
Boardroom bonuses have never been so good .
This government excels at getting public money into private offshore accounts .
National debt £2.5 Trillion. How can we EVER pay it back?
So have I the last 13 Years are even worse than the Thatcher years and they were grim the best period of economic growth including average wage growth of 25% was Blair / Brown @@seantaylor9758
Gove's ability to create his own reality is truly astonishing.
Is he on drugs again?
Since 2010 the Tories have increased the national debt, taxes, trade barriers with our largest market, hospital waiting lists, pollution, fraud, grift, the cost of mortgages & food prices, on top of the old Tory favourites of poverty, homelessness, childhood malnutrition & regional inequality.
The Luftwaffe literally killed fewer Brits than the last 13 years of Tory misrule.
Have you finished 🙄
Yeah and Labour is going to really sort it out . There really is not any great choices.
@@timcomley5948 Didn't have an argument?
What's causing the economic decline is Thatcherism and Austerity cut the Trickle down Cr*p and fund services and then things will change.
Also put in a fair windfall tax of 80/90% on excess profits to pump back into the economy@@mikeman584
@@timcomley5948you got somewhere to be?
Can someone please drug test Gove. He's been snorting a hellava lot judging by this performance.
We are working hard lifting the silver spoons we were saddled with at birth. How can the Tories give back all the public money they have squandered and removed from the public purse by fraud. We will judge you by your work. Get your snouts out of the trough. Get out of the way and give the country a chance to recover from you!
Not a fan of confrontation- that is why Britain is in a mess. For most of the last 123 years the public has been looking the other way, blaming others for everything, keeping its head down and sticking it in the sand, not always at the same time. It has accepted Thatcherism since 1979 and until it is forcefully ( and peacefully) repudiated in robust intellectual and practical terms, the doom loop it has created will continue unchecked. Apathy and timidity are the faithful allies to the Tory project.
@@eightiesmusic1984 That is so true.
@@JustinTimeEnglishClip I am glad you see it. Trouble is only around 20% of the population if that sees the issue in these terms ( as an estimate, which is also probably wildly optimistic). But as a rule of thumb in general, for every progressive, principled stance on a given issue, most of the time it seems to be the case that for every two or three people who subscribe to it, there are reliably seven or eight reactionaries who oppose it-no wonder Britain is in s desperate state. The attitudes of most of the public ( and many of the Tory Party) to so many issues are in the sewer. Britain is not only doomed economically if it continues the current trajectory, but it is on the verge of moral bankruptcy ( in a secular sense). Truly frightening times we live in.
Gove was adopted to the silver spoon.
The only way forward is to make sure they never get back into power.
We really need a review into the practices and quality of our private education system in this country. What they are producing is so far below any kind of expected standard and the country is suffering as a result
You're assuming that the role of private education is to create well meaning people who have a broad view of what is going to improve life.
It's not. They're told from day one they are superior and their class interests must be put above that of everyone else. We're gnats in their view, and they know best.
Yeh but they are so incompetent
Easy solution ban all public schools with a few exemptions for specialised learning.
"schools have improved"
Then talks about Ofsted and exam results which are all heavily controlled/influenced by government.
Real evidence of school improvement would be a productive economy, a healthier and happier population and real savings in healthcare/police/social services
All of which was the proven outcomes of Sure Start which they cut...
There hemorrhaging staff, the roofs are falling in and class sizes are getting larger
I love this - bloody brilliant. Well done Kate and Adam.
Since 2010 the national debt has increased from £1 trillion to £2.6 trillion, interest is now costing over £100 billion a year, taxes are forecast to reach 37% GNP which is the highest burden since WW2, real wages are still at 2007 levels, the trade deficit has doubled from £43 billion in 2016 to £87 billion in 2022, the pound fell in value from $ 1.65 in 2010 to a record all time low of $ 1.03 last September and the U.K.'s sovereign credit rating since 2010 has been downgraded 6 times from AAA to AA- negative outlook. No wonder there's no money for public services !.
And before anybody mentions covid or Ukraine they'd double the debt years before either.
Michael Gove, the Austin Powers of UK politics...
It's pointless interviewing Gove these days, he has no line of sight on what Sunak's inner circle are thinking re policy. We saw that on the 2030 ban on the sale of new non EV cars which Gove at an FT event said was sacrosanct mere days before Sunak announced he was moving it to 2035.
Gove here giving a masterclass on talking fluff and avoiding responsibility.
Everybody remember that this dude is the Secretary for Levelling Up and Housing?
And he returned unused budget last year, because apparently everything in levelling up and housing is already perfect (for Tories)?
He says "schools have been transformed " !!!! What planet is he living on !
Liar Liar Liar
Ah, there he is: the one who assisted in abusing public service.
Michael Gove, the night club legend is a very oily individual. Quite a slippery punk.
The worst Government in living memory
And there's been quite a few to choose from. That's how bad these are.
We need you to come back Adam
Really good to see actual journalists holding feet to the fire instead of the tory pr folk the bbc hires.
I really like that Times Radio allows its presenters to get in under the skin. It seperates the wheat from the chaff from such a deep pool of news outlets
Never trust a Tory
very well said adam, hold them to account, brilliant interview, well done for sticking to the point
He lied about Brexit benefits now this one. And many more.
Brilliant interview by Adam and Kate. Gove is full of bs.
More BLA BLA BLA
Why on Earth does Gove think he is there to ask a journalist questions… instead as a member of the government ANSWERING questions… the arrogance!
Nice to see Tigger under the cosh. Goves bouncy bouncy communication strategy is so damn annoying. Be interesting to count how many times the 'spades in the ground' spin is rolled out. Sunak said it 3 times in as many minutes earlier today.
Not properly challenged on it either, surprise surprise. Brexit not mentioned in the interview either-also entirely predictable.
This was the best interview I have seen on the issues surrounding disenfranchisement by central powers deciding for the whole and beurocratic nepotism it's bordering on cliche.
These old politicians must go.
Gove is such a UK-Karen. So defensive She is.
🇨🇦❤️🇬🇧
Don't you just want to punch him
Brilliant interveiw.
"Smug"? Possibly, but "SMARMY" most certainly !
I wish they would stop referring to Manchester as "the north". It's barely the middle. It's like they don't have maps in London...
How do these people look them self in the mirror without feeling sick?
Smug is not the word I would use, the only MP that is worse than his spitting image character
Once you've lost Adam Boulton you know you are done for.
Michael Gove thinks he is a little angel!!!! What next? They make me feel sick
The UK Govt imposed austerity on local govt so it didnt have to cut so much centrally and bear responsibility for their own policies and decisions.
Shifting the cuts, dodging the blame and letting the most vulnerable and ordinary folk pick up the tab.
More of the same old lies from groveller, i mean Gove
This investment would have been better spent on the existing railway infrastructure than re-inventing a whole new network. It's a disaster in waiting...
What planet is Michael Gove living on???
Top quality adam
So there's no problems with our Public Services then? phew!
This guy puts Lying Lavrov to shame
“It’s about devolution to local leaders [for decision making]” - Goves exact words. That must be why the Prime minister took this decision on HS2’s phase 2 leg without informing or appraising any of the local leaders involved about the decision. Why so many tories turn out and vote for him is beyond me.
Cannot fathom how gove is still has a place in office
Gove on the ropes lol ! Love it !
Can’t believe Gove is doubling down on the brexit 350million a week figure….
14 years ago at the tail end of Labour's government Adam Bolton clashed with Alastair Campbell and they shoved each other around and Campbell called him an unfair conservative reporter and today Boulton is doing it to the conservatives as well. Old school reporter holding power to account. I have alot respect for him.
What a large amount of cobblers
It's true, we don't call Michael Gove smug in our house - we call him a See You Next Tuesday.
I hope Canal street in Machester is ready for Goves arrival, let it snow. The state schools are so great which is why the Tory bench send their kids to private ones
I guess "..spades in the ground" was made obligatory for all on the news rounds
The Tories aren’t going to get punishment they deserve. Humiliation in a leisure centre at 3am on a Tuesday morning really isn’t enough.
Name one thing about this country that's better now than it was in 2010...
Is Gove on drugs again?
Fact of matter, gove, not a silver spoon job. I agree, very slippery customer.
Has he had any white powder yet ?.
I love Gove! I can't get enough of him.
It’s like watching the final of the UK’s ugliest man competition. 😂😂😂
Surely Farage would be in the final too.
@@tonycowin Farage was knocked out by Gove in a penalty shoot out.😂😂😂😂
I just wish the media would push back on the idea that taxes are a bad thing in general. Taxes pay for public services and the last time I checked we are all members of the public that need those services at various points in our lifetime. Everyone seems to hate taxes whilst simultaneously complaining about the destruction of those services under this government
Mr Gove, when you are in a hole, throw away the shovel.
The Conservative legacy is best explained by the decision to axe the Schools for the Future program they inherited from Labour in 2010. The program was expected to cost £55 billion they axed it to “save money” and promptly went on to borrow £2 trillion since May 2010. Now we have three times the national debt we had in 2010 and hundreds of schools that have had to close because the buildings have been condemned as unsafe to open. It’s a toxic legacy of political opportunism, short term focus on the electoral cycle and fiscal irresponsibility on a scale never seen in this country before.
Its so difficult to defend the indefensible
London has spent more on a sewer than the north has received for research and development. Increase taxes for the benefit of the north.
Gove lies so easily.
I dont think Gove has worked hard in his life and what he has actually been doing since 2019 I would like to know
SNAKE OIL SALESMAN !!!
That ooooooh soooo looooooong exaggeration of syllables to ruuuuuuuun out the clock before he get caaaaaaaaaaaaught in his lies aaaaaaaand misdirection.
Well done Adam Boulton for holding another serial liar Tory to account.
Where has he been hiding ? He should return under his stone
.
Having worked in the education and childcare sector for almost 13yrs I can confirm the sector is by far now worst then when I joined. Local authorities budget slashed they go and make the education and childcare department team members redundant leaving Skelton staff.
Staffing in schools and childcare settings is at an all time low morale. Low pay especially in childcare with more and more demands on people like me. Older staff redundant younger staff recruited then work away because of the demands. No back up at authorities due to budget cuts. This sector and the country is completely broken it needs help. Once again a government minister completely delusional to the issues and again they constantly refer to inflation. For 13yrs the sector has collapsed and until early last year inflation wasn’t an issue! Enough is enough we need a general election.
Gove has lost the plot lol. Whats he been smoking ?
The only real levelling up will come from the rich paying a fairer share of tax- let alone higher taxes and a specific wealth tax …when many pay tax at lower rates than employed people , if not stashing it offshore
Gove recently sent back £1•5b to the treasury of levelling up money from Scotland. We know where he stands in Scotland. I hope this is reflected in voters for him in Scotland in the next GE.
same old broken record blah blah blah, a veritable verbal contortionist
Keep Digging the Hole until you go Down It.
They keep saying "levelling up" but everyone keeps hearing "Immigration didn't work". That is how Tories speak.
why is this man getting air time
Gove's like a slurry tanker emptying itself, but less useful.
For those dedicated to low taxes, what's the basic deal? To me the low taxation dogma seems a way of starving the government so as to constrain it's size and power. Which I guess in the old days might have been considered a fundamental of anti-communism or anti-authoritarianism in general. Is that the crux of it? Is it perhaps Darwinian? Or is it a more straight-forward feelings based thing of not liking to share outside of the family?
You're correct it is a public funding starvation ideology. The problem is they honestly believe (or pretend to believe) lower taxes will bring in more revenue and grow the economy. The problem is, as you point out, how do you fund it? You have to cut public services. So while they believe there's more money going into the economy in actuality society is being starved of funding which will collapse public services - no doubt to be bought up by private equity firms.
13 years of tory it feels like they are opposition
If only he was as good at creating change for the better as he is at spinning the uber mess the Tories have created.
I’m a Conservative but this man does us more harm than good ! He’s seen as a walley !
Go Mr Bolton.
I used to think he was honest
"...the Conservatives legacy in government". Just let that phrase roll around your mind. Think of Gove while you're doing it.
A smug-off between two very smug men
So sick of this man's BS.
Gove needs a line or 2
The 3 people appearing in this video don’t know the meaning of work!
again, a short rope and a long drop are required here.
In fairness, he's good at thinking on his feet. But he pulls from the bag of cliches too much. And then completely ignores the question/ point and then rattles of "and we did xyz" ( and they let him ). This is an example of why people don't like politicians.
Countering rhetoric with facts. The snake is at it again.
Spin, spin, spin.....Tories out!
Gove should be studied in a lab,,like the other rats.
Weird last question. Just weird.
“I’m not smug” - another Tory lie.
Gove, demanding 'facts'. God that is rich coming from the snake oil salesmen.
