Gove's ability to spout utter tosh with exaggerations and half truths is yet another testimony to the utter lack of morality and decency in the Tory party
Since 2010 the Tories have increased the national debt, taxes, trade barriers with our largest market, hospital waiting lists, pollution, fraud, grift, the cost of mortgages & food prices, on top of the old Tory favourites of poverty, homelessness, childhood malnutrition & regional inequality. The Luftwaffe literally killed fewer Brits than the last 13 years of Tory misrule.
What's causing the economic decline is Thatcherism and Austerity cut the Trickle down Cr*p and fund services and then things will change. Also put in a fair windfall tax of 80/90% on excess profits to pump back into the economy@@mikeman584
It was good to see Gove get a hard time this morning. I'm not a fan of confrontation but it's hugely frustrating as listener to hear politicians just trot out party lines and pretend everything is going well. It's not. We deserve honesty from the people who govern us!
I would be happy with any government if it did it's best but I'm not expected anything good with any change next year. Having seen many labour and conservative government over many decades I expect people will be disappointed with their choice. We are working hard lifting the silver spoons we were saddled with at birth. How can the Tories give back all the public money they have squandered and removed from the public purse by fraud. We will judge you by your work. Get your snouts out of the trough. Get out of the way and give the country a chance to recover from you!
Not a fan of confrontation- that is why Britain is in a mess. For most of the last 123 years the public has been looking the other way, blaming others for everything, keeping its head down and sticking it in the sand, not always at the same time. It has accepted Thatcherism since 1979 and until it is forcefully ( and peacefully) repudiated in robust intellectual and practical terms, the doom loop it has created will continue unchecked. Apathy and timidity are the faithful allies to the Tory project.
@@JustinTimeEnglishClip I am glad you see it. Trouble is only around 20% of the population if that sees the issue in these terms ( as an estimate, which is also probably wildly optimistic). But as a rule of thumb in general, for every progressive, principled stance on a given issue, most of the time it seems to be the case that for every two or three people who subscribe to it, there are reliably seven or eight reactionaries who oppose it-no wonder Britain is in s desperate state. The attitudes of most of the public ( and many of the Tory Party) to so many issues are in the sewer. Britain is not only doomed economically if it continues the current trajectory, but it is on the verge of moral bankruptcy ( in a secular sense). Truly frightening times we live in.
We really need a review into the practices and quality of our private education system in this country. What they are producing is so far below any kind of expected standard and the country is suffering as a result
You're assuming that the role of private education is to create well meaning people who have a broad view of what is going to improve life. It's not. They're told from day one they are superior and their class interests must be put above that of everyone else. We're gnats in their view, and they know best.

Since 2010 the national debt has increased from £1 trillion to £2.6 trillion, interest is now costing over £100 billion a year, taxes are forecast to reach 37% GNP which is the highest burden since WW2, real wages are still at 2007 levels, the trade deficit has doubled from £43 billion in 2016 to £87 billion in 2022, the pound fell in value from $ 1.65 in 2010 to a record all time low of $ 1.03 last September and the U.K.'s sovereign credit rating since 2010 has been downgraded 6 times from AAA to AA- negative outlook. No wonder there's no money for public services !.
It's pointless interviewing Gove these days, he has no line of sight on what Sunak's inner circle are thinking re policy. We saw that on the 2030 ban on the sale of new non EV cars which Gove at an FT event said was sacrosanct mere days before Sunak announced he was moving it to 2035.
Gove here giving a masterclass on talking fluff and avoiding responsibility. Everybody remember that this dude is the Secretary for Levelling Up and Housing? And he returned unused budget last year, because apparently everything in levelling up and housing is already perfect (for Tories)?
I really like that Times Radio allows its presenters to get in under the skin. It seperates the wheat from the chaff from such a deep pool of news outlets

Nice to see Tigger under the cosh. Goves bouncy bouncy communication strategy is so damn annoying. Be interesting to count how many times the 'spades in the ground' spin is rolled out. Sunak said it 3 times in as many minutes earlier today.

The UK Govt imposed austerity on local govt so it didnt have to cut so much centrally and bear responsibility for their own policies and decisions. Shifting the cuts, dodging the blame and letting the most vulnerable and ordinary folk pick up the tab.
This investment would have been better spent on the existing railway infrastructure than re-inventing a whole new network. It's a disaster in waiting...
I hope Canal street in Machester is ready for Goves arrival, let it snow. The state schools are so great which is why the Tory bench send their kids to private ones
“It’s about devolution to local leaders [for decision making]” - Goves exact words. That must be why the Prime minister took this decision on HS2’s phase 2 leg without informing or appraising any of the local leaders involved about the decision. Why so many tories turn out and vote for him is beyond me.
14 years ago at the tail end of Labour's government Adam Bolton clashed with Alastair Campbell and they shoved each other around and Campbell called him an unfair conservative reporter and today Boulton is doing it to the conservatives as well. Old school reporter holding power to account. I have alot respect for him.
I just wish the media would push back on the idea that taxes are a bad thing in general. Taxes pay for public services and the last time I checked we are all members of the public that need those services at various points in our lifetime. Everyone seems to hate taxes whilst simultaneously complaining about the destruction of those services under this government
The Conservative legacy is best explained by the decision to axe the Schools for the Future program they inherited from Labour in 2010. The program was expected to cost £55 billion they axed it to “save money” and promptly went on to borrow £2 trillion since May 2010. Now we have three times the national debt we had in 2010 and hundreds of schools that have had to close because the buildings have been condemned as unsafe to open. It’s a toxic legacy of political opportunism, short term focus on the electoral cycle and fiscal irresponsibility on a scale never seen in this country before.
The only real levelling up will come from the rich paying a fairer share of tax- let alone higher taxes and a specific wealth tax …when many pay tax at lower rates than employed people , if not stashing it offshore
Having worked in the education and childcare sector for almost 13yrs I can confirm the sector is by far now worst then when I joined. Local authorities budget slashed they go and make the education and childcare department team members redundant leaving Skelton staff. Staffing in schools and childcare settings is at an all time low morale. Low pay especially in childcare with more and more demands on people like me. Older staff redundant younger staff recruited then work away because of the demands. No back up at authorities due to budget cuts. This sector and the country is completely broken it needs help. Once again a government minister completely delusional to the issues and again they constantly refer to inflation. For 13yrs the sector has collapsed and until early last year inflation wasn’t an issue! Enough is enough we need a general election.
Gove recently sent back £1•5b to the treasury of levelling up money from Scotland. We know where he stands in Scotland. I hope this is reflected in voters for him in Scotland in the next GE.
In fairness, he's good at thinking on his feet. But he pulls from the bag of cliches too much. And then completely ignores the question/ point and then rattles of "and we did xyz" ( and they let him ). This is an example of why people don't like politicians.
