James Lee I watched him live one night about 4 years ago. I was about 10 feet from the stage and dead center. He made his guitar sound like 5 different instruments at the same time. The man is an incredible guitar player along with being a fantastic entertainer

Well you are kinda right. He plays the bass-guitar on the top 3 strings with his thump plectrum, with his other fingers he is playing the melody (guitar 1), while playing the melody he also plays chords at the same time so guitar 2 and he is playing the drums.
This is absolutely immposible to play.

Flat out the finest, most entertaining guitarist to ever strap on a 6-string. Tommy is an utter magician and a world treasure. And you won't find a more humble, likable person in the business.

That capo removal without missing a note at 1:09 is one of the most impressive things in the whole video. That takes practice as much as the rest of the performance. I've played for almost 20 years and I have never even considered doing something like that. Tommy is one of one... amazing.
I agree. That totally blew my mind! One of the slickest maneuvers I've ever seen. I've been playing longer than I care to admit and I couldn't even dream of pulling that off. Such a Master!

How many came here after the Rick Beato interview? I’m ashamed to say I didn’t even know about this guy before, but became an instant fan, and seeking out every recorded performance! His playing is pure joy, and a very cool dude on top of that!

I've known of him for a while but the Rick Beato video sort got me back into his music. He is hands down my favorite acoustic guitarist!
He do not need the support of Beato Fan-boys but Beato needs people like him.
I have had the Privilege of seeing Tommy ( and his brother Phil, . . RIP mate ) LIVE and, as a muso myself, have Never seen ANYONE better. Even at the breakneck speed he plays . . No Mistakes. After that performance with the Beatles Medley, I believe his Guitar wanted a Cigarette.
If you’ve ever tried to play guitar, you’d be crazy if you didn’t totally appreciate the skill and creativity Tommy displays in this performance. Wow!
Yes he's good but his guitar set up is so bad. His strings are so buzzy. I get people every day asking me to stop their strings buzzing.

Tommy gave me his guitar strings in 2001. I have him a beer. He changes them every day...I kept them on my guitar for 2 years!

@@xebio6 its not that Tommy is super skilled (he is no doubt) it's about the soul he pours into the instrument. Not just a lifetime of practice a lifetime of loving to play and learn.

About twenty years ago I saw Tommy and his brother Phil, RIP, play at a small club that was once at crown casino in Melbourne. There was a cross section of people at the show, definitely not the usual male dominated guitar fan crowd. Tommy and Phil put on an amazinv show, entertained the hell out of a crowd that wouldn't normally be into instrumental music. I dragged along a mate who was only half interested, he left that night dragging his jaw on the ground. That's a usual Tommy show!

I've never seen this piece performed so amazingly cool. If you play guitar, this is how it's supposed to be done son. LOVE it and the brewery Sierra Nevada Brewery is my fav beer to have whilst watching something this mind blowing!
So amazing!! During a difficult day, I played this video which was shared by a friend and it just turned my day around!! I play it every day now... Here comes the sun truly brings the sunshine. Tommy Emmanuel is so joyful in his guitar playing, facial expressions and presentation. Watching him I see an amazing human being... so much heart and soul there. He has been put on this earth to spread joy all over.🙂 Can't wait to see him in the fall.🎶
We have had amazing periods of music in our history so far. For me these are the classical period from roughly 1700 until 1890, the rock/pop era from 50's 60's and 70's and then Tommy Emmanuel's career. There have been and still are, many fantastic guitarists around. However, just like the composers Bach. Beethoven Mozart etc. there will never be another T.E. for centuries to come. Nobody can play as fast as that and have so much clarity. Nobody's ears can distinguish any more notes than what he is playing when at full speed. Nobody has embellished the guitar with his percussion accompaniments. Nobody can be more passionate, more humble, more joyous than this man on or off the guitar. We are all very fortunate to be on this planet at this time to be able to here Tommy in his prime. I'm an Aussie and proud of Tommy but Tommy is in reality a World treasure. All humanity can be proud of his achievement in reaching such an amazingly high standard.

i literally stood up on my keyboard for about 1 minutes, don't know what to write. That is speechless on another level. This man is.. i dont' even know how to describe his greatness in words. But i know one thing, i need to sell my guitar and quit playing.

I remember going to see Tommy during the 1980's for free at the local pub and many other places. Just incredible. By far the best guitarist I have seen. Especially acoustic. I used to tell everyone how great he was but at that time people would say Tommy who!!. I used to love seeing him play with his brother Phil. They were brilliant together

Here Comes the Sun has always been one of my favorite tunes and Tommy's version is so full of joy! And the rest... really no words. So on fire!!

The man has everything at his fingertips, bass,rhythm, lead and even drums. He is a one man orchestra from another planet, extraordinarily talented craftsman of his art producing the most wonderfully pleasing jaw dropping sounds from six strings. I am in awe, and broken hearted in missing him playing in concert at my city of Birmingham uk town hall last year.

Tommy has settled the debate on using a Capo or not once and for all. If a Capo is good enough for Tommy Emmanuel, it's certainly good enough for the rest of us mortals.

Just home from seeing Tommy and Jerry Douglas in Perth, Scotland. My first time seeing the great man. Here's hoping I get the chance to see him again one day. Incredible performance. Just the best I have ever seen and I have been going to concerts for over 40 years.

Okay, two thoughts. First of all, the guitar has obviously been put under a spell by the music god and is enchanted, because fingers just don't DO that! Second, I've been playing since '62, and I'm going to sell my ax because IT is definitely NOT enchanted. Thirdly (Forget the two thoughts thing), I'm dazed - in a good way. Amazing arrangements of some of the best pop/rock music in history played supernaturally by someone whose joy is evident (rare for a guitarist, most of us look like we're suffering or in pain). THANK YOU Tommy!

I do not have any words to describe this..I do not believe it physically possible. Saw Tommy in Dublin last year and booked again for this year although Covid put paid to that..they asked if I wanted a refund or wait until 2022 to see him..well what would you do...I cant wait!

Apart from the crazy skills Tommy Emmanuel has, he always turns a big smile on my face and in my heart. Just can't stop it from happening whenever I hear, and especially see, him play. 😝😝

Chris Case, Eric Johnson is giving mini lessons on UA-cam once a week during this Covid crunch. I have been playing for years, but it is always sweet to hear and see from someone who knows what he is doing.
@@Claytone-Records I played casually for decades. Now age is taking a toll. What I find really striking is how he uses a thumb pick, and (at least) three fingers. How does he get the volume and sharpness with his fingers to match the thumb pick? He must have fingertips like iron to pull that off. Very little surprises me anymore, but this technique is truly amazing. I could listen and appreciate this for hours...
Chris Case, I know what you mean by age, been playing since age 14, so almost 50 years. I played with my drummer friend for a few hours yesterday. I will survive. I am primarily a finger picker and I use my thumb, but I don’t care for thumb picks myself. Still it’s been several years since I last tried them so who knows. There was a time when I couldn’t hold onto flat pick after all. I have been able palm them while using thumb and fingers for years.
If Tommy played in the beatles who knows they could have made it big they would have only needed a good drummer and the world could have been their oyster. Yes
