- Captain Jack Hale and his crew of ragtag scavengers live by a code. They do the job, get paid, and keep their heads down.
Salvaging a distant section of the asteroid belt seemed like the perfect job. But when he and his crew stumble across a mining camp filled with dead bodies, their plans for a quick payday quickly go out the airlock. Especially when they find a scared little girl who knows the truth about the massacre.
When Captain Hale refuses to turn over the survivor to those behind the slaughter, he and his crew become outlaws. Fugitives in a system controlled by an alien AI.
The odds are against him, but Captain Hale has an ace up his sleeve, or rather, in his blood. The secret might just give him an edge to beat Sol Corps at their own game, though exposing it will draw out an old and even more dangerous enemy.
The sins of his past may just be what saves the future for all mankind.
It's Harlock: Space Pirate meets The Expanse in this pulse-pounding military sci-fi series from Rachel Aukes, the best-selling author of Black Sheep, Rebel's Run, and 100 Days in Deadland.

Don't know who Capt' Hale and his crew referred to in the description are, but a Maigret story is always brilliant.
So very well read. I was just mesmerized and didn’t even realize the time that had gone by. The author is brilliant. From the writing you get to know the character of each person. And without much description, you imagine each character very vividly, in your very own way. And it’s life in reality - with people and relationships in the entire spectrum from light grey to dark grey. It’s really wonderful to find a Margret I haven’t “read” already. Thank you for posting this. 🥀🌷🌱
My introduction to Maigret was a few months back via another audible presentation, and I searched for more. Most of what I found were from the BBC TV series and found them to be totally unsatisfying. The director totally missed the mark concerning the Inspector's personality, and the actor chosen for the part in no way resembled the man that the audible reading from the actual book had placed in my head. Madame Maigret was no better. I am so delighted to find a few more of the Maigret stories presented by audible.
This has also introduced me to Georges Simenon, that per Wikipedia, "published around 400 novels, 21 volumes of memoirs and many short stories, selling over 500 million copies.". It seems I have a lot of reading to do as there are few authors I have found that put the mental vision of the characters in my head so firm and distinct, that someone else's interpretation isn't suitable.
While I feel I've missed the boat by discovering Georges Simenon so late in life, I know I have much to look forward to. I would like to thank Audible for opening a new door.
Superb. Margret is an under appreciated gem.
I dont know about underappreciated. Im old enough to have watched the tv series. He might be forgotten in the English speaking world. Might not be in France?
There's not much better than Gareth and Maigret ❤
Is Gareth the reader? What's his full name? Marvelous reader!
@@ilanawallach1302 Gareth Armstrong
Its great story and the reader is fantastic,so more enjoyable no averts.
Just loved it . Thank you so much for making it available for free. XXX
But the musical interlude tells me they arent paying royalties to the narator or author's estate where they are due. Im disappointed as now I wont know the end as I refuse to be part of people making money off someone elses work and depriving them even of the pittance that royalties bring.
The description isnt what the story is
What a joy to listen to this excellent story…….❤
Omg. This one all but twisted my head off. As soon as I recover I will have to listen to it again. So intricate. Where’s the aspirin?
Excellent; Thank-You!
Excellent! Thank you. 😊
Thank you
Very good and fun bonus song added at the end.
I really enjoyed this, thanks
a pleasure and excellent narrator
A great writer brilliantly read as always…
Absolutely excellent and unusual for a Maigret!
Thank you, brilliant. Confused by the description though - was this meant to describe the plot of this book?
Love the story 👍👍
The Description box give details of a Sci Fi book. Not Maigret's territory, I thought! Lol!
I also picked that up......lol
Have always liked Maigret
TSn of AF..Thanks Much !.......
I’m iin iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii it if iiiiiiiiiiiiiiihu

Love Maigret🎉
There’s a musical interlude during the story, a piano piece, and then some kind of singing when the story ends at 3:25.
I love my greet and I was enjoying an hour and 40 minutes of this mystery. Now all of a sudden all there is is music. None of the comments mentioned this. I don't understand. What's going on?
Must be an interlude, go to 1:45:46 and the book will continue.
What is your greet?!
What's wrong with people?! Is everyone living under a rock?
THANKS.
The Music is nice and soft and doesn’t wake you up.
@@kisserravnsrensen369 More music at the end. Like the old days of "taping over"! My greet must be Maigret - autocorrect?
The piano peice is really good
Unlike your spelling.! 😉.
@@vespadavidson2315 O.k....we are here for the love of Maigret. Spell check is my champion. 😁💖
I'm sorry I have learning difficulties, 😔 I try to do my best
@@martinmcchesney315you're just fine Martin; don't listen to the bullies ❤
Lovely piano music at 1.43. Any ideas what it's called?xx
“A model family.” Maigret mumbled. Lol! Guess it’s not good for crime.
I remember this one 🤣
I heard piano music and then the story continued.
Why the interlude? Does anyone know?
the description is unrelated to the actual audiobook being narrated.
Uuugghhh! I hate when that happens. I'm not going to waste any more of my time listening to this.
@@michellekleingers8238why do you not like it?
@@michelleduplooymalherbe2837 I was replying to stewartlandcaster6155 when he said "the description is unrelated to the actual audio book being narrated."
❤😊
The description from a completely different book! This is Maigret by Simenon.
"Maigret and the Ghost". Book 62 , published 1963. When a colleague is shot under mysterious circumstances, Inspector Maigret must work fast to uncover the truth
PMSL, “Margret and the Space Pirates.”
I’d sure like to hear this whole book but not here.
There was music?
6/8
Aware, Not for bedtime listening, loud music
😮 although this was an interesting story I don't understand the wrap up they left out a perfect part of it. The guy that got gunned down if he ever came out of his coma and if so was he told what gave him away so he doesn't do it again. Or if he died then we need to know that he died. Loose Ends really suck
Shame about screaming music in a couple of places 😢
Wrong title and description. But it's Maigret so it's okay
😉👍🙏
It must have been fixed, seems okay now.😊
All is forgiven..Maigret fixes everythng.
just a mistake (we all make them) and it is not that serious,......
Not a great fan of Brangra music at the end
There is something wrong with this recording, why is there Asian music on this program.
Why the indian music?
Why ruin the story with jarring attempt at music at the end
What is the stupid music! My word how annoying!!!!!!!
I believe it blocks copywrite infringement
The added music is to prevent copyright infringement charges. The piano interlude at @1:43 is pleasant, and the volume isn't intrusive. But that horrible screeching woman at the end of the video is just awful. Anyone wearing headphones is in for an unpleasant shock. She sounds like a cat in heat with a megaphone.
Weird production. You ruined it.
When they say "may gray"
i say "meh greh". The pronunciation is laughable so i had to skip. Sorry, such a simple thing can ruin the story, its true, because it did.
We don't care
I call him maygreet....😂😨
Your loss, you’re missing excellent story telling. How’s that cookie?
i can sort of underrstand that, but it is a pity, you missed out badly
Thank you
