Yeah, but that was only at the beginning of the series, so we all understood Jimmy hating Howard then, but later in the series, Howard sincerely apologized for going along with Chuck's game and made it very clear that cared about Jimmy and truly wanted the best for him. Despite that, Jimmy kept pulling some really mean pranks, and I stopped understanding what was still motivating Jimmy.
While Howard’s death was undoubtedly one of the “Breaking Bad” universe’s most tragic moments, and he did absolutely nothing to deserve Jimmy’s harassment after trying to make amends with him, it did always bug me that he chose to go along with Chuck’s scheme to keep Jimmy out of HHM in the first place. He very well could’ve told Chuck “if you really don’t trust Jimmy working here, I’ll respect your decision. But I like him, so I’m not going to play this game with him. It’s up to you to tell him how you feel.” Even if the point of his arc is that he was supposed to be redeemed after going along with what Chuck said, I always had trouble liking him after the lies he told Jimmy to block him from going down the right path.
@BrendanPappas I'm sorry but you are wrong here. It is not right to expect Howard to go against Chuck when we consider the fact that Chuck helped Howard through training and practice since his childhood to become the successful leader Howard is. It's the same way Kim was thankful to Howard for being the successful lawyer she is at the beginning of the show. The right thing for Howard to do is to be loyal to Chuck for all the help Chuck gave him since childhood. However, it is horrible for Chuck to abuse Howard's loyalty like that. If you were in Howard's place, you would probably do the same.
@@sabhishek9289 you might be right, but I still don’t think it justifies what Howard did. Not that Howard’s fakeness at all excused the way Jimmy and Kim tore him down though.
@@BrendanPappas Even if you disagree, you could appreciate Howard for being the only character who constantly tried to redeem for all his mistakes even if he didn't commit those said mistakes. He tried to make up for all that with Jimmy, Kim, his wife and others. It's wrong to not forgive someone who wronged you in the past but is trying to reform.
@@sabhishek9289 no, I’m not saying I disagree with your point. I totally understood that Howard was trying to make up for his mistakes and do right by the mistakes he made with Jimmy. That’s what makes the pranks against him and his undeserved death so heartbreaking. There was also just a bit of me feeling like I was rooting for Jimmy after the struggles and mistreatment he faced at the start of the series, and it wasn’t as easy for me to just completely flip my opinions of the people who I felt had wronged him. Kind of like how I kept rooting for Walt to succeed throughout Breaking Bad even after all the things he did throughout the show since he started out as a perfectly fine guy in a bad situation who just wanted to help his family. But again, I’m not at all saying your point is incorrect. I completely understand how you feel as well.
Howard's wife is the most evil character in the whole universe. The guy is going through the worst crisis of his life and is basically suicidal, and THAT'S the time you decide to leave him? What the fuck, Mrs Hamlin
She married him because he was a successful, wealthy lawyer. Once he lost it, she lost interest because he could no longer give her what she wanted. I wonder what made Howard choose such a woman.
@@webiorg6147 yep she was a gold digger, or a status-digger. Which is weird because isn't she an attorney too? I'm sure I remember her saying something about her having cases to go through. So she should be independently wealthy already. Yet she still does this shit. Marriage is meant to be so that you're together through both sickness and health. Howard's mental health falls so much and so fast, like falling into the grand canyon, and instead of being his rock and trying to help him and make sure he knows he's not alone dealing with this and that she'll help him, instead she decides that's the perfect moment to leave him. So they're separated, but for the time being she still lives in the same house with him, so she can describe in excruciating detail all the dick she getting from other guys that it's now OK to sleep with them because their marriage is over already. So she's rubbing it in even further. Then when Howard's fake suicide note is discovered and his death is revealed, Mrs Hamlin has the absolute unmitigated _GALL_ to pretend she's really sad and upset about Howard dying and that it's been the worst grief of her whole life. All so she can make money from a lawsuit targeting Kim and Jimmy. She just pretends to be torn up about it, to get one last golden payment from Howard even when he's already dead and buried in a meth lab. But yeah he even tries to do nice little thoughtful things for her like make the coffee with the beautiful coffee art he took the time to make, and she just says "thanks" in a monotone voice and pours it into her go-cup thing to drink it on the go, not even mentioning anything about the coffee art or anything like that. So yeah in all of the Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul universe, Mrs Hamlin is easily the most evil and the most ruthless character in the whole thing.
Because Howard said something that bruise her ego. Once. Something along the line of 'watch your back around Jimmy. His antics might rub off you and you might change.' Kim was insulted that how dare Howard was implying a smart, competent, and strong person like her can be influenced by someone else, especially a swindler like Jimmy.
He kept punishing and exploiting her. If she did something wrong, he forced her to sort papers in the basement with interns. Plus, since she loved Jimmy, Howard was her enemy too.
I always thought it was strange why Jimmy hated Howard. Jimmy totally destroyed Howard's life and reputation. It was surprising that Kim went along with this insane plot. To destroy someone's life takes a lot of hatred. So being murdered was the second worse thing that happened to Howard. Although it was fun to watch Jimmy's schemes and scams. Jimmy was just a giant jerk.
Let's be very clear here. Kim didn't just "go along" with the plot. It was HER IDEA. Jimmy had initial misgivings and SHE was the one who made him relent (see BCS 510, 601). And at the very end of 606 Jimmy STILL had misgivings, and wanted to call off the "D Day" so Kim could go to Santa Fe. Who was responsible for making him go through with it? Kim.
You need to rewatch show because that’s not what happened lmao. Kim was the one that came up with the scheme. She literally said if they didn’t do the scheme she would have broken up with him.
You nailed it! Thank you! I’ve been wondering this for so long. In fact, it’s the one dynamic I didn’t like in the show…. At least now I can understand it.
Was this script translated from another language by an AI? There's a lot of words being said, but the flow and grammar are just slightly... unnatural. The video says a lot without actually saying anything.
Nah, it went deeper than that. The stuff with the bowling balls, the "lightning shoots from my fingertips" speech, etc. Occasionally he would realize his hatred was completely out of proportion to what Howard deserved and have second thoughts, but the true pathology of the Jimmy-Kim duo was that they each worked to quell the other's doubts and go deeper into the plot against Howard.
What really flipped the switch in Jimmy's head was when Howard offered him a job, the job at HHM that Jimmy had wanted for years but was blocked by his brother Chuck every time, until now that he's dead he can't do anything about it. But it's too late. Jimmy sees the job offer as coming out of pity, and so it's an insult, an implication that Jimmy isn't a good enough lawyer to make it on his own.
I think it is weird that everyone constantly referred to Howard Hamlin as "Ho-Ham" in the early episode, then just stopped as the series moved on. I thought it was a cool nickname.
Man, you missed the mark COMPLETELY. Jimmy did not hate Howard. That's not why the scheme was cooked up. The scheme to ruin Howard was cooked up because Kim hated Howard. Kim--whom you don't even slightly talk about or even mention in this analysis. Leaving Kim out of the explanation means you didn't understand what was going on at all. EDIT: I now see you have a separate video on why Kim hated Howard lol...I stand corrected.
