I attend an annual retreat with some Gee’s Bend quilters and there is no planning in advance… it’s all improv! They have fabric there but the limit I set for myself is to use what I bring and I bring challenging colors for me to stretch my abilities. Retreats are awesome and the Gee’s Bend ladies are incredible!
Absolutely blown away by the Enchanting pattern, made with Water Lillies fabric. I was a little dubious at first, but then the picture appeared it was instant love and awe 😳
Our Rip & Stitch quilt group has decided to challenge each other to complete a 3yard quilt top to be presented at our December meeting. My favorite is Garden Path from Fast & Fun book. I’ve made three of them. Am making City Lights now. It will be donated to a Veterans hospital dialysis unit. Love making them. Thank you for the fun videos.
I loved the Enchanting pattern and fabric choices. It looked so beautiful and would be perfect to make on a quilt retreat. Since I’ll probably never get to a retreat, I plan to make this pattern at home. Can’t wait to get started, so excited! Thank you and best wishes.
Hard to choose! I really think that I would go with the Enchanting pattern. A lot of movement...a lot of variance. So great! But, another suggestion would be to use these patterns when on vacation! I routinely take a machine and try to get 1-2 tops pieces in downtime. These are perfect! thanks for the ideas!
Don't need quilt retreat fo be distarcted! ! Just love So Quick. Made a watermelon quilt for picnic wedding (Don't forget the ants) and an owl baby quilt ( Owl Will Always Love You). Love the Fireman Quilt!
I cut and label quilts and pop them in a project box with the pattern, thread and a couple of wound bobbins. If a specialty ruler is needed that goes in the box as well :)
Cutting ahead of time surely makes sense to me. At my last retreat, I had such a good time chatting that I held the ruler upside down and all my measurements were off. Thank goodness it was a 3 yard quilt pattern. With a little fourth color added, my Quilt turned out beautifully.
The stripes kind of scare me, because I worry about the strip piecing and having my strips come together in the right direction. Your comment about cutting the fabric in advance is a good one.
My church sewing group needs to raise all the funds needed for the various outreach projects. Selling quilts (we donate all supplies) seemed a no brainer. Wrong!! Prospective buyers have no grasp of the cost of the fabrics, batting etc. A very experienced quilter made a queen size quilt with quality fabric (Benartex) and professional long arm quilting. It was auctioned for less than the cost of items for the quilt sandwich. So disappointing😢
Sometimes I use those "free" address labels charities send out to label my things - even eyeglass and hearing aid cases when I have to go for an outpatient procedure.
I have taken unfinished projects that simply need to get done because I know I’ll have days of sewing. The only problem is it makes the retreat less fun. My favorite retreat is filled with fun simple projects so I go home with a sense of accomplishment.
I love the first one w/stripes. My favorite! What would the third color be if I hve Storm Trooper fabric, black & white. And a white & black stripe fabric? Having a problem with the third fabric, please!
Is there any other colors in the storm trooper fabric? Perhaps a starry printed fabric as if they were in the galaxy? Maybe a black and white polka dot or maybe a dark blue? Those are some ideas that may work. 🥰
Hi Donna! It will depend on where you live, but I would try googling quilt retreats in your area and see what comes up. Often times a local quilt guild may have retreats they are a part of as well that could be helpful. 🥰
I wanted to see what the pattern on the wall behind you is - I know it. I've seen it before. I don't think it's Fandango, but maybe it is! Tried to go to the website but presumably the global IT outage of this afternoon here in Australia, midnight your time, has affected it. Keeps saying gateway error. Hopefully, all will be back online tomorrow or in a few days!

I agree, no one understands the time, love, and effort that goes into quilts. These are not everyday buy off of Walmart shelves quilts
That's why I stopped selling quilts and crafts. People don't want to pay for quality. I just make scrap quilts to donate and animal shelter quilts.

I use address labels they are all ready sticky. I cut off any extra around the name and address.
