Excellent video as always Mike ! I especially liked how you teased the next couple of videos (the Dana 300 rebuild, re-wiring and the new fuse panel,etc.). Can’t wait to see you’re amazing attention to detail in regards to the re-wiring among other things. Hope to see another video soon !
Great to see you back in the garage! You're an inspiration for my projects. I hope your health issues have been settled and we can see more of your project in the future! Take care!
Thank you Matt. It’s been easy and rough. I do have the next vid half put together. It will be more of a reference vid for the Heater Boxes in these old Jeeps. Remove/Repair/not so much Reinstall. I appreciate you following. Mike
I restored a 1945 Jeep 5 years ago and like you, had to fill over 30 holes. It sure was a fun vehicle to work on. Everything is easy to get to. Nice work on your end.
Always plenty of holes and pinch weld on the old Jeeps! It kept me busy on this one. Thanks for the Tour over on your channel. I left with shop envy! Hope you enjoy your upcoming retirement!
I’m glad to see you back at it again. I’m always rewatching your videos. I’m going on another deployment and I will again be watching your videos for a little motivation. Since the last time we talked, the engine is in, it runs for all of 10 seconds as I miraculously found a pin oil in the oil filter which now has now been a rust prevented for the driver side of the truck and the driveway!!! Plus I have no cooling system but it will have all brand new when I get back and she’ll be my daily driver and my soon to be son!! Hopefully you’ll make another video soon and I’ll have to catch you on the flip side
Brian, Great to hear from you!! Glad to know that your engine is at least in!!!! Congratulations on announcement of you new Son! It will be a while before he will be out there turning wrenches with you. Many thanks for your service!!!!!!!!! God speed with your upcoming deployment. Mike
UCanDoIt2 I appreciate it. Yeah it’ll be some time before he turns wrenches but he’s been hearing engine noises from UA-cam at night and when we drive I try and keep it in a lower gear so the engine revs a bit so he can hear it.... hopefully he’ll like the sound and have projects of his own
Nice work Mike. That jig for the patch worked great. The welder sounded like you had it perfect. Fresh epoxy sure changes the way the project looks. I look forward to the next episode.
That patch would not had stood up to RR quality standards, but where it is located, I am very happy with it. My mind is a mess until I can get it into one color!!!! Cheers !!!!
Nice to see you back making videos on Rowdy’ again I’m getting close to finishing up my Lm7 swap on my lifted Tj just have to do some wiring stuff and top off the fluids an start working on a tune for the Btr Stage 4 cam
I need to learn how to weld apparently. Love the videos, jealous that you have a garage to work in LOL. I set up a 10 x 10 canopy to work under. But I still get it done. I have to replace the driver side floor board in my CJ-7. I’m going to go watch another one of your videos now…
Welding is really fun I am an extreme novice. Nothing that I am doing is extremely structural, so I feel comfortabe with it. You would be surprised at how cramped my work space it. Glad that the vids don't highlight that. I am currently replacing my Drivers Floor Pan. I have already completed the Passenger side. learned alot from that project. Floor Pan, Side of Tub )rusted through, and bottom of A-Pillar completely rotted off. All being replaced. Cheers.... Mike!
Looking great as always! Was that a copper bar you used behind the holes to support your welds? Good find on the air file too. One word of advice from a novice painter... leave the air “on” while spraying. Just control the paint when you get to the ends. That’ll help with any splatter from the abrupt starting of the air stream through the nozzle. Keep it up and I’m anxious to see what you choose for the bed liner. The U-pol stuff has great reviews. Take care!
Thanks Bob! I did use a copper backer behind the welds to help avoid blowout. The store bought copper backer was too large, so I made my own (1/2" Pipe flattened). I'll try the tip on the constant air... makes good sense!
Sorry for the delayed response. YT did not alert me of this comment. Just found it. The Disk that I like to use to take off paint is a Flap Disk. Probably in 80 grit. You need to keep them flat against the work and lighten up with you approach metal. My son used it in a slanted orientation and didn't realize he was scalping the metal. You can get them at Home Depot, Lowes, Harbor Freight, and most hardware stores. Cheers... Mike
On this side of the vehicle, I do not remember if I cut a small metal patch to help fill those holes, or if I didn't. Most of the smaller holes, I used a home made flattened piece of 1" Copper Pipe. The hot weld will not stick to Copper. I was able to reshape the copper to best fit many different situations.
You have a great eye. The PO of this Jeep had wrecked it and they replaced the floor with a thick piece of steel. My intensions are to retain it. Cheers! Mike
Hi Mike , it's getting there . I just seen a jeep and they didn't paint it . It was sprayed army green in that rhino liner type of product , the whole thing and it looked pretty good . The guy said he didn't have a good panel on the jeep so he got it sprayed. LOL
You have a great memory... Yes, the PO included a nice hard plastic tub and lid that kept in all the debris. Glad to have that final main part of the drive train in house. Cheers... Mike
After I replied I was wondering if it was you. Many thanks for offering the Dana 300. Just what I was looking for!!! We will be doing the rebuild soon. Thanks. Mike.
Air file shouldn't be used with paper finer than 180 ....... file will heat up the panels causing bondo to clog paper ..... air file should only be used to rough in body work .. not a tool for finish work
You'll love that air file for straight panels.......it's a must have
Jeeps are on of the few vehicle with straight panels. It is a great tool for that! Love it. Mike
I'm glad to see you back and looking forward to the build. It should be a great project to see completed.
Thank you!!!!! It felt great to get back in the garage!!!! Cheers...
Great videos which give me the inspiration to tackle the rusted out floor on my CJ7 here in England. All your videos are superb, thank you.
Thank you and best wishes on your CJ7 improvements. Cheers! Mike

What grinding wheel are you using to clean the paint off before you weld? It doesn't seem as aggressive as mine. I like it.

What were you using under rails and behind the button holes when you were filling with weld?

Why was the bed area of the tub flat and not ribbed?

The Bedliner would definitely weatherproof the metal and help Glue that thing back together. Haha! Cheers Buddy!
@UCanDoIt2 Can't wait till I see you rebuild that Dana 300. Did it make a mess in the Cadillac's trunk?

@@UCanDoIt2Mike Not a problem, I subscribed to your channel after we talked. Mainly to see what you do with the 300 LOL
Keep up the good work
Mig welder?
Looks great btw
Yes... Eastwood 135 MIG Welder. Which has separate controls for wire feed and amperage.
Something about old jeeps. People get a drill in their hands and can't put it down
A friend of my son saw my project and said... "It's LEGOS for adults".
