A movie is good when you don't want it to end. Tenderfoot fits that perfectly. Sad I have only a few minutes left...... Great and fun movie. Highly Recommended. When we had real talent in movies with great stories
Wow, a wholesome comedy western with mind-blowingly realistic Apache battle scenes, the laid-back red-tape of cavalry forts in the midst of Apache Wars, splendid wild horse chases and rousing bugle calls and martial music to accompany cavalry operations and Spanish Mexican music accompanying the wild horse chase with matching gusto. Brian Keith's drawls, James Whitmore's racy dialogue delivery and Brandon de wilde's charming playing of the role of a tenderfoot in the middle of Arizona Apache Wars (recalling his maiden role in the epic western, Shane of 1953) are memorable. Possibly due to ageing of the films, the photography is a bit fuzzy made up by the vigour of the caption captured and conveyed. Hats off to the director, cinematographer, composer and the three actors who have made this movie as charming and realistic as it is comical. One yearns for movies like these which have long become extinct taken over by meaninglessly horrifying, violent and obscene westerns made in Europe.
Blaming Europe for violent westerns, lol! Europe made the comedic westerns, such as Trinity. It’s American directors who are bloodthirsty, such as Sam Peckinpah.
Thanks for this Chris. I’m watching my third Brandon deWilde movie of the day and haven’t seen “The Tenderfoot” since it was a first-run on Sunday nights in ‘65? Somehow these old Disney productions just take me back.
I do not remember ever seeing this , though with saturday matinees and later 60s and 70s TV I'm sure I have. What a hilarious script ! There was an era when film was written with these twists. Fort Buchanon seems like a metaphor for Washington DC what with everyone holding info on another as leverage ... Dayum !
You are amazing! I've been looking for this (and many others you've uploaded) for years!.*Thank you,* from the bottom of my heart. These shows need to be preserved, and the company doesn't care about making them available anymore, so you're doing a great service.
I have saw 4 movies with Brandon De Wilde, he was good in this movie ** he was also good in the other 2 western I saw him in plus the one war movie I saw him in ** He pass a way way to young ** He had top box office star he play with
I've researched James H Tevis for years! I've known this film was out there but never could find it. Not even Disney conserved films. I haven't watched it yet but very excited to do so. Arizona in the 50s is an awesome read. Many say he did a lot of embellishments in the book. I've researched his career leading the Arizona Scouts during the Civil War. That can be documented through official records and diaries. If what I can document what he and his small unit did during the Civil War, I look back on what he wrote about in Arizona in the 50s and perhaps a lot of it did actually happen. Edit: I watched the movie. Was this all three parts of the movie? Hardly even tracked the book at all.
Brian Keith & Brandon De Wilde would later go on to co-star playing father and son in the Walt Disney feature film "Those Calloways" released on November 5, 1965.
5 men and no night guard in Apache territory. this so called "scout" couldn't hear an Apache approaching if he was stomping his feet, with all that snoring, enough to wake the dead.
I'm a huge fan of Walt Disney films. I loved watching these films on the cinema and on television, on the program "Disneyland". When VHS appeared, few titles were released here in Brazil. With the arrival of films on DVD, there were also few titles released. I am very happy to see that someone is posting on youtube. I ask you to continue posting these gems from Disney movies. There are fans all over the world, who are certainly also happy for being able to review the films and remember. (Joseph - Três Barras city - SC - Brazil.)
I Would love to see a CD release of the theme song from this Mini Series as would I like to revisit many of the Walt Disney themes and those Songs from the many other Western Films by their original singers.
Thank you for uploading all these wonderful Disney gems! This is Disney when they made wonderful wholesome family films. Not like the ones they make today with the woke studio's making them. Walt Disney must be spinning in his grave like a top to see what his wonderful Disney Kingdoms and studio's have become now, with the woke agenda, grooming little kids.

Thanks 🙏🏻 for sharing... been watching Westerns on UA-cam since 2015... thought 💭 I had seen them ALL and this popped up... silly 😜 and extremely stupid at times but it helped past the time and even made me laugh 😂 so thoroughly worth it.
This was when Disney still made good entertainment . They also have not released " Song Of The South" which is not a Western , but an important fine sweet movie .
I was surprised to learn that most western forts were open with no supporting walls or palisades. An open square with main building at one end with with barracks and stables on either side. A cavalry troop or squadron with supporting infantry and an artillery battery seemed to be the norm. When you see western films with a wooden fort and a full cavalry regiment then that was not the norm.
The book is real but James Tevis thought the truth something of a rubber band. The uniforms are wrong, the clothing is wrong, the weapons are wrong, and Fort Buchanan was on a side-hill made of jacal and was said to look more like a Mexican village than a fort. However, Mose Carson, Richard Ewell, and Tevis were really people who were in Arizona in the 50s. The events in the movie are loosely based on events in the book which bare some vague resemblance to things that actually happened. Give the film credit for giving us a vague idea of what Arizona was really like at the time when there were only two towns, Tucson and Tubac, and one fort.
Tevis' Arizona in the 50s, written in 1880 and not published until 1953 and out of print for the last 50 years, was later edited by Betty Barr and Dr. William J. Kelly and re-released.
Thanks 🙏🏻 for sharing... Now I Thought 💭 I'd seen every Western on UA-cam until this popped up... WHY are people always portrayed as not just stupid but incredibly STUPID...??

The Tenderfoot would be released theatrically through Europe in 1966. It aired on the Disney Channel as an edited-down 2-hour feature in the 1990s.
This was a very enjoyable Disney movie. It’s great to see these old time actors again. Thanks for posting.
I've always liked Brandon DeWilde! Passed away too soon!
His death was very like the way James Dean died only it really was not due to recklessness on his part. 🥹🥹🥹

Great movie 🎥 🌹🥰💘
James Whitmore (Captain Ewell) would guest star on four episodes of "The Big Valley" that starred Richard Long.
@@ineedstuff8286 Yes, that's Richard Long who played the oldest son & lawyer of the Barkley family.
Richard Long in one of his charming rogue roles here, nowhere near as noble as Jarrod Barkley.

The Tenderfoot has never been released on home media by Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment.

no trees, will they be making the walls out of sod for that fort? Sod is fire proof, actually, better than wood if the walls are 3 or more sods thick.

Kind of a kids movie.
Funny movie such a shame it has to be ruined by the stupid music that spoils everything as it has for every movie ever made.
Even West Side Story?
