I hope my simulations will educate the general public about potential earthquake related hazards and create more curiosity about Earth Science in general. I do also hope that my videos will inspire a future generation of amazing architects, engineers and scientists! We all need to peacefully work together to make this world a better place. :)
My goal is to show people around the world the effects of different earthquake shaking levels on various buildings and structures.

Fun fact: In the 1995 M 6.9 earthquake in Kobe city Japan, a large section of the highway overpass going through the city multiple kilometers in length collapsed in a very similar fashion to the animation EQS provided to us today!
Yes it did! And I was able to simulate that :) for the first time ever :)

The overpass actually did surprisingly well until Mercalli X, certainly survivable up until that point.
Having in mind it’s not really earthquake proof , it did well :)
I love the rumbling sounds from these simulations, I'm so glad I found one for 11 hours for sleeping

The Tōhoku earthquake had an intensity of VIII, not IX
The result seems to look more like 5:20 for the collapsed overpass.

Looks good 👍, the viaduct kinda looks like the tracks of an elevated rail line because its thin and the lamp post kinda reminds me of those overhead wires as seen on some elevated metro lines 😀

Being anywhere on or near this freeway would guarantee a lot of ruined pants. My mom had been working at the Northrup facility, but was retired at the time of the quake (Northridge). The freeway she would've been driving on had she not retired would've collapsed at the time of the quake, with her on it. She drove from Sunland, about 20 miles from Northridge, to Hawthorne, where the moment magnitude was VI-VII.
Wow…freeways are much better today then what happened in 1994. But there’s always some kind of variables that we can’t take into account

Is it possible for you to simulate the power of a magnitude 11 12 13 14 and 15 earthquake?
Those that are above 12 are theoretical
That can’t be simulated because it would involve the whole planet, solar system and beyond. Remember that each additional magnitude level increases the energy released by a factor of 32
What if earthquake vs World Trade Center
That would be almost impossible to simulate :) too many objects

@EarthquakeSim: Epic simulation. In future videos, can you please include all Mercalli Scale simulations (from I - XII)? I notice that I, II and III were not included in this one. It would be appreciated because it would make it easier for me to submit personal shake reports to the USGS whenever I feel a minor tremor here in NYC.
Absolutely! I will for sure do that though remember that I and II is not felt by humans. Only III

It would be thankful if you would do it, since it occurred in california and my mind was mindlessly thinking about the golden gate bridge during this event. did the earthquake manage to wobble the bridge?
