For Yunnan people, sour is an indispensable taste in life and local food culture. We cook all edible sour fruits with different cooking methods. Papaya and Docynia delavayi are typical sour fruits. In stir-fry dishes, they enhance the taste; in soups, they make them less greasy; in cold dishes, they whet the appetite.... Their sour taste brings joy and excitement to our taste buds. As soon as I hear their names, my mouth waters!

3:56 I really like the sound when she slices sour papa, but my fave would be the sound of lotus root getting sliced. So satisfying 😊 I wish she showed more of the slicing for a bit longer.

Love it this is where I come from.. This is what kind of snacks I bring to the park or just eat on a nice Summer day. I love the green mango . people always look at me crazy when Im out there picking green plums off the trees or when Im eating this fruit and sour chile stuff. So Thank you for sharing to the world and i love seeing how many people out here are interested and loving the culture also. Its so beautiful especially during these times..

I often drift into deep reflection contemplating the use of the many old ornamental fruit trees the bear tiny wild fruits similar to those you use, grow in urban residences in my hometown in Gisborne nz. Property owners who planted (1950s to 1970s) and pruned these small fruit bearing shrubs, dwarfs and vines probably l knew the culinary and medical benefits, but are largely ignored by new owners of today so are cared for as another pretty plant. Totally Sad!
My mum and her mum made loquat, crab apple, wild damson, jellies from neighbours who grew them and in return give a sample jar. You are a traditionalist and I enjoy my time learning old ways from you. Big Thanks

She certainly makes it look that way. It appears that she never stops and has an astounding efficiency of movement. It is clear that many time consuming activities must happen between camera shots and between videos...also with great efficiency.

I can tell . Now , she visits her grand parents home time to time to help them out . She must have doing that since she was a very young . That's how she seems flawless. Because shes done all the routines in a past.

The fruit is actually called Quince. It comes in different verities. Yes it’s really sour. The smaller fruits are hard as a rock.

It's called quince (宣木瓜，Cydonia oblonga)，which is closely related with apple. At the end of her video, she compared quince with papaya (木瓜，Carica papaya) because both share the same Chinese name 木瓜 (meaning wood melon).

I'm guessing that "sour papaya" is the same as "Chinese quince"? I usually just eat it fresh (It's tart, dry and sour), but other people usually make it into a jelly or jam. Will try out the recipes here. Thank you for another inspirational video.
