I played Bastion and Hades, and this game even defied either of those titles for me. It's better. It's a fantastic top down. And I like the music and serene feeling of the game, though it's anything but serene lol.
They did not need to cook as hard as they did with this ost. ITS SO CATCHY AND ROPED ME IN EVER SINCE THE INTRO. Oh yeah and the game play is absolute perfection, take that high speed thrilling combat of dead cells and apply it to a top down perspective with areas that remind me strangely of solar ash of all things and you end up with this amazing game. SO happy to have it finally out
It's so disappointing to see some fans of hades and dead cells be so stingy when it comes to the devs trying new stuff out. Both windblown and hades 2 look like legendary projects, which will most likely go on to be some of the best games games in the genre. Most of the negative responses I have seen for these games are that they are very different from the previous ones, which is just such a shame because trying new stuff is what might eventually elevate them above their predecessors
Yeah, that's often a problem Devs face. If it's different, people will whine it's too different. If it's almost the same, people will whine it's the same thing. They will never be able to satisfy everyone, so they satisfy those who they can, and those who will appreciate it.
Dead Cells fans do have *some* reason why they are so mad. While not confirmed, there was alot of rumors inside of Motion Twin and Evil Empire that MT forced EE to stop working on dead cells so that windblown can have more of a spotlight. While that does suck, they are definitely too hypocritical about the next game
@@chomperwithcheesecake Dead Cells got an absolutely crazy amount of updates over the years, it's stupid to throw a fit because they decided that they're finished with it.
You make a great point about exceeding your predecessor with new titles. I loved Hades to death for many years, and I was super excited for Hades 2 after so long. Hades 2, at least to me feels the same as Hades 1 but improved and expanded. Going back to Hades 1 now feels off like it's a little clunkier and feels like it's missing something to tie everything together. Imo that's what any sequel or new approach should be doing! Breath of the Wilds successor ToTK has the same essence, they took what was good from the base game and expanded on it. It's not trashing the original but you can feel the maturity across the titles as the various gameplay mechanics and systems get updated and given a new breath of life.
@@freshFerdinand I’m not saying I agree with them, those people are way too harsh on windblown, and I love windblown so far (my second mistake anticipated game this year) but dead cells did get somewhat cucked with a blow average final update, and there were more planned updates that won’t see the light of day. Those fans are mad at that and take that anger out on windblown
I just gave the game a try just now, and I love this! The mechanics of weapons and enemies is really good! Looking forward to seeing how creative they get as a player improves.
me dropping a like and comment for algo while using Haelian as an indie game news station (this one looks sick, can't watch for spoilers but ty for tipping me off to this one)
Looks great. One thing that bugs me is the text pop ups for the challenge and all of the gift descriptions have no life like the rest of the world. After playing Sky: Children of the Light and loving how immersive the stylized world is absent of most text it makes switching to games that just have blocks of writing on the screen that aren't well integrated into the gameplay experience very jarring. I'd love an option (or mod) to turn off those distractions and replace them with symbols that fit the stylization of the world as well as replacing the sprites for the cooldowns and collectables with graphics that don't look like they're from an entirely different game. Obviously this adds a "hard mode" aspect that I'd want to be completely opt in, but I think you can get the same ideas across in a more integrated way. Diegesis is the word used in film for when meta-communication is integrated into the film via a physical manifestation of the format, usually when narration or score which are typically technical functions of the film have an in-universe source like a radio or character who's revealed to be existing offscreen. I'd love it if games eschewed common modes of communicating information for more immersive ones like that more often. Bit of a side rant, but I reckon the relationship between narrative and UI is fun to talk about
I think that's a good place to improve upon but I can understand the simplicity despite how drab it is, readability in a fast paced game like this is important. Though I also hope further down the line they'll work on UI elements and make them more stylised as you said.
I knew as soon as I played the demo that this game was 100% for me. Bought it at exactly 11am at its launch time. And already have 6 hours in it. Combining the time of the demo i have a total of 14 hours in this game. Love it so much
I like this style. It reminds me of Bastion, which I highly recommend even though it came out 13 years ago now. Top down isometric is a lot of fun, but if you played Dead Cells a lot it can take some getting used to.
I'm absolutely loving this game, my favorite combo weapons are usually beatbolt, since it reminds me of the playstyle of the bow from hades, and heavy blade. Only complaint I have is i wish I was able to animation cancel or dodge out of my attacks so I don't get hit.
Isometric just means drawing 3D-looking objects without using vanishing points. This game uses 3D object with a perspective that resembles isometric projection but is still very much a 3D game
This weapon-swapping mechanic kinda reminds me of Skull the hero slayer, where swapping between two available classes causes either some buff, or unleashes a certain attack.
Re: your question about weapons, I usually like slow yet strong weapons (i.e. the kirkhammer from Bloodborne), but they’re just tough to use in this game with everything being so fast. I’m glad the switch attack for the heavy blade is so strong otherwise i probably wouldn’t use it
Will say love this game and so far I only got one complaint, the Elite modifier with the shadowclone just, isnt good depending on which big enemy it rolls on. Had one with the saw guy and could not punish them at all without getting hit. Besides that, love everything else about the game.
This game is unbelievably good so much so that even though its from Motion twin which would be expected its still surprising. Its such a freah idea for games this is the future of rogues, this and Witchfire
The game looks amazing despite it still early access. I will pick this game up when the full version comes out. In the mean time, I’ll support the devs by spreading information about this game. I’ve played Dead Cells before and I can say that DC was a great game. Clear progression and I’m still stuck at 4 (Hell Difficulty) and yet to beat the original ending but I’ve been playing it since 2022.
I'd say it looks a little easy, but I remember how Dead Cells had a very tall difficulty curve where it starts easy and gets absurd, so I imagine that the difficulty is yet to come.
Oh yea this game is brutal. Especially at the end of a run. The 4th biome is amazing and also near impossible to beat on your first time entering it. And that's at default difficulty
It's hard to quickly summarize the differences between them all. Ravenswatch is probably the most challenging/different, it plays more like a MOBA. Windblown will require quicker reactions to certain triggers to make good use of certain mechanics.
IIRC Dead Cells crits were just conditional. Not % based. Seems this game is also like that. So like crit damage would be good if you can meet the condition of the weapon's crit easily. I dunno if I missed that being brought up later in the video. Also watching the first 5 minutes of the video made me decide to flip a coin on whether I should get the game now or wait for a later date. Spoiler: I now own the game
Seems to have some of the issues dead cells had with stage generation at a glance. Colors are all over the place too, they had to make a bright blue light just so ur char doesn't dissappear.
If you don't have a controller or just simply don't like using one like myself DO NOT BUY. This games M&KB is really really bad they don't even have support for something like attacking in direction of cursor like Hades titles and you cant just click on stuff in menus it just feels really clunky. Wait till they add better support for M&KB if that's what you like to use.
although I prefer this top down style (similar to hades) over the side scroller style, I can't say I like the look of this too much. Just gives cheap indie game vibes from circa 2012. I feel like I've seen this exact game before
I completed it the other day and haven't played it since. Almost all the weapons are terrible and unsatisfying. Imagine saving up to unlock the "charged sword" and finding out it is terrible. How can Devs screw up weapons this badly? Damage scaling is all over the place. The best weapon is the Beatbow or Kunai cos if you go for melee you're getting hit almost every attack before you can even swing. Needs a LOT of work before this game is worth playing IMO. A LOT of work. Most deaths feel unfair or because something in the game caused it, not human error.
this game feels so plain/basic, I want more "troll your friend" moment/option added in the game. just a very surface suggestion would be like being knockback and fall off the platform.
Saw this video so I bought it and hated it within the first 15 minutes LMAO. I wasn't a fan of dead cells either so not a surprise to me. Hope they can turn it into a good game because right now it's a choppy experience imo.
Yeah, at this point I am so over roguelikes the second I hear the word I am done watching. It is a ridiculously overdone genre. Everyone feels they have to turn every damned game into one now. It just makes me hate them instead of enjoy them.
I hate being "that guy" but it's really disappointing when I see streamers playing a game and not even bothering to read the abilities before saying something like "huh, I guess it doesn't tell me how this works" when that shit is right there on the screen. When he looks for the Crit chance and has the menu up the weapon ability this he currently has selected states that the third hit of it's combo Crits, pretty sure the other weapon had a similar ability. He's like the third gaming Streamer/UA-camr who I've seen do this in a video just today. Just read what's on the screen. It's like when people are playing MTG and don't understand how a card works when like 90% of the time all you had to do was read the damn card. I know there are such bigger issues in the world but shit, if your job is to play and review games at least pay attention to what the game is telling you

I was skeptical of top-down 3D dead cells. Played it, and it shut me up. It definitely lives up to its name because I was blown away.
Windblown away
