I’ve made this recipe 3 times and every time it comes out perfect. So good! I would gladly pay for this at a restaurant it’s so good. Thanks for sharing!
I have to agree that the best chowders this side of the Rockies are at Pike Place Chowders. They are otherworldly good. Thanks for sharing the thoughtful recipe, process and tips. I’ll be trying your ideas next time….which is probably tomorrow because after watching your video, I can’t stop drooling.
Made this recipe last night and it was the best clam chowder we've ever had. Couldn't find the clam base either so used chicken base and roasted garlic base. Awesome!!
Looks amazing 😊 we live a few miles from pismo beach And the pismo clams are back , we go claming a couple times a week and get our limit of 10 they are delicious 👍🏻
I contacted Better Bouillon and asked them is it necessary to have the Ham Base and not the Clam? Service rep has said they’ve received numerous calls on the clam base !
I made your clam chowder, it was delicious. I've had Splashes and Pikes in Seattle. I really enjoyed your the most. Thank you so much for your recipe. 🤗😋 yum
Thank you for sharing. I think your recipe may be better. The chowder they make is good at pike place. I feel it was a little hyped up tho but the Turkish delights down the street are devine. Your recipe looks delightful.
That’s where we are from (Pismo). No more clams…but we like visiting there several times a year. Every restaurant does Clam Chowder…most are pretty yucky!
Hi there, I will have to try your recipe some time, it is very close to the one I use. If you are looking for a place to eat clam chowder I would suggest "The Chowder Bowl" in Newport Oregon. It has changed hands since I have been there but we used to go there and have all the clam chowder and salad we wanted. If they still make it the way they used to you could almost stand your spoon up in it.
It turns out that Better than Bouillon discontinued their clam base. Oh no! Any other suggestions? I thought that would be the secret that would make my clam chowder over the top like my late uncle's who was a fisherman in Maine! We spent many summers clamming at low tide then he'd work his magic with lobsters and clam chowder. I was too young to know I should have been paying attention!
@@chefskiphansen8814 cannot find this anywhere, even Amazon. I’m so disappointed. I’m still going to try this recipe tomorrow but I’m afraid it won’t be as good.
howders, lower New England chowder (including those with tomatoes) and Rhode Island chowder. You can pretty much get them all in Boston. Your recipe when I tried it was complex and delicious but probably a bit expensive for a New Englander. I doubt many in Boston would object much to this recipe save the spice combination. But good stuff nonetheless. 👍
I made this yesterday for the first time after having the real thing (PP Chowder) about three weeks ago. This is very close to the original and isn't hard to make. BTW the better than bouillon clam base has been discontinued.... I found a diefferent brand on Amazon.
Took Mom to Seattle with me so she was a great tester for some carefully reheated (sous vide) leftovers. She agreed... this is the real deal. Dad didn't go but ate all of his and loved it. This is a keeper.
I like most of this recipe, but I don't use spices in mine. Especially thyme. Corn starch? Better than flour? That's questionable, gives the chowder a more translucent look and slimy texture. Flour has better flavor and keeps the milky appearance for the chowder. I really like the blending part. Keeps the focus on the clams. Powdered garlic instead of fresh is a very bold move. Garlic, like onions, is great in all its forms, fresh, dried, sauteed, or just boiled, or fried. Great job but why spill on purpose? Messing with my OCD!
A lot of those specialty ingredients we don't have locally here in Florida but they also didn't have candybars nor chips nor anything interesting like gum etc...ha-ha
Apparently the Better than Bouillon clam base was discontinued shortly after this video was made. The company suggests using their fish base or lobster base as an alternative.
I recommend everyone heat and taste a tablespoon of clam juice from a jar before using it! That will be the last time you use it I swear. Most people use it but have never tasted it. Taste it. Do you want award winning taste? Make fresh FISH stock. Yes fish stock. It’s a main ingredient of ALL good clam chowders. Don’t forget to taste it first so you can appreciate good fresh flavor. ua-cam.com/video/wSOwM4PqyC0/v-deo.html
Honeys, you know better than that...serve it in a pumkin or Butternut squash (the sweet kind) and garnish with sweet potatos or yam....avoid the carbs...diabetics...but yes, it works with bread too...disney brats. You may also use a Green Pepper or Poblano Pepper to hold the soup.
Overfishing in certain parts of the west coast decimated local populations before conservation could begin (thanks gold rush). Other populations msy have since filled the void, but whats lost cant be returned - not really.
Interesting concept: Boston Clam Chowder. I live on the coast of Maine not far from Boston an I consider myself a chowder analyst - fish chowders included. In my experience there are upper New England type c

If you want good clam chowder, don't use canned clams. Buy the clams and boil them and chop them up for use. Use the water from boiling the clams in the chowder also. I don't know why you did away with the bacon grease. You should cook your potatoes, celery and onions in it on low. Have to watch you don't burn them. You don't want any dark burn spots. Sorry, but I want New England clam chowder. That is not what this is.
manhattan "chowder" is not chowder by definition. Chowder has a milk or cream base, so the terrible new york version is more like a seafood tomato soup.
I’ve made this recipe 3 times and every time it comes out perfect. So good! I would gladly pay for this at a restaurant it’s so good. Thanks for sharing!
I've seen dozens of recipes and videos and I'm pretty sure this is about the best you'll ever find! Even the right potatoes, this is killer!
This recipe is a taste of home - thank you so much.

;-0 I didn’t even think of that :(
I looked up the clam base from that company-don’t make anymore
Just tried this - excellent. Thanks for sharing.
Thank-you for putting your recipe for New England Calm Chowder. Tried it this morning for Sunday Brunch. It is a big hit!
Thanks!
Good job. I'll try it. Nice tips on the "Better than Broth" oyster. I've never used that one
Thank you for sharing, this is the best recipe, I made it , my family was impressed.
This was so delicous! I doubled the clam base (on accident) it was so delicious!!! Thank You!
Thank you so much for this recipe!
Awesome recipe. I tried this and it was delicious. Thank you for taking the time to share your talents in the kitchen Chef! Kudos! New subscriber!
Nothing like a good bowl of Boston clam chowder . Just in time for the fall.
Yummy just made that Boston chowder recipe delicious
Looks amazing 😊 we live a few miles from pismo beach And the pismo clams are back , we go claming a couple times a week and get our limit of 10 they are delicious 👍🏻
Looks real good! We made some a few weeks ago and yes those cans are about 1/3 full at best when pushed down
Very nice. Thank you.
After searching two stores for it, I found out they discontinued Better than Bouillon Clam Base. Once I find a clam base near me I'll give it a try.
I contacted Better Bouillon and asked them is it necessary to have the Ham Base and not the Clam? Service rep has said they’ve received numerous calls on the clam base !
Minors puts out a clam base. It is very similar to " Better Than" clam base.
Vegetable base works well also.
Try the lobster base by Better than Bouillon in clam chowder. Delicious!
Nicely done. I also have an old family recipe from Boston. I will try yours
Thank you so much! I will making this tomorrow!! Looks amazing
I made it, it was amazing, light and rich at the same time. Everyone loved it and had 2 servings. Thank you!
Looks good and delicious!
Looks wonderful. I'll do this over the weekend.
Pro Ish! I’ve made some badAss chowders and I checked this one because I wanted to see what the pros say. This is Pro
Thanks so much for sharing this Video! 😊

This IS the best and only way to cook New England Clam Chowder. Thanks for the clam base hint. .
I made your clam chowder, it was delicious. I've had Splashes and Pikes in Seattle. I really enjoyed your the most. Thank you so much for your recipe. 🤗😋 yum
Thank you so much for sharing the complete recipe in description box. I adore clam chowder. This looks delightfully delicious. Love from Ky. 😇💞
Looks really delicious.
Looks so good!!!
Thanks!
Thank you Chef. I've had the Pike Place Chowders (all of them) and when I get ready to try a chowder at home I'll use your recipe.
Thank you for sharing. I think your recipe may be better. The chowder they make is good at pike place. I feel it was a little hyped up tho but the Turkish delights down the street are devine. Your recipe looks delightful.
WOW Wish I could find clam base !!
Thanks. I wish I could find it still as well.! No longer available.
Wow......looks good !! Pamela in Detroit
I went calming at Pismo beach in the sixties. We would hold clam bakes on the beach after surfing
That’s where we are from (Pismo). No more clams…but we like visiting there several times a year. Every restaurant does Clam Chowder…most are pretty yucky!
I lived in Santa Maria California
Best recipe for clam chowder is this one
Omg..that looks haven …I am cooking this beautiful soup this weekend.
Nice❤
Wonderful!
Great recipe, but why the background music (noise)?
This sounds 👌 going to make it ❤👍🤓
You have a radio voice, sounds familiar 🤔
Also ... if you want your chowder thicker... use more potatoes! Use flowery potatoes rather than waxy ones.
Trying to make it but I can’t find one of the ingredients :( the clam base
Apparently chefs are using the same brand ‘Better Than Bouillon’ but it’s called Lobster Base.

Yum
Excellent tips here, and thank you for not making another wallpaper paste soup.
Making it for dinner!😊
Nice video
This recipe is best of best,
forget other amateur videos.
Looks great! Bet it smells even better. What is the clam base you used? Thank you
Better than Bouillion

Sir I don't know who you are. But thanks for your recipe I tried it is was very good 👍 I will be making own clam chowder soup 🍲

yummmmmmm
Chef Skip, is that a set of Airborne wings tattoo? Hooah. AATW.
No, just a Navy anchor. But, I do have Aircrew wings as I was a P-3 crew member for 3 years in the early 70s. Thanks for asking.
I think I will use fresh clams instead of canned ones, I think it will be better. Great video!
Splash cafe in Pismo is the best 👍
I'll have mine in a bowl.
How many with this recipe feed?
Where can I buy the clam base?
Well well I'm back and noticed I left a comment 1 yr ago, hear again to try Pikes Place Clam Chowder I didn't remember the first time.
I made this yesterday for the first time after having the real thing (PP Chowder) about three weeks ago. This is very close to the original and isn't hard to make.

I bought a kilo of fresh clams today $20. Going to use them plus can clams. It’s expensive lol 😂.

This recipe is for how many servings? Thanks
3-4 servings perhaps. Thx.
i used lobster base instead and now it taste more like spaghetti, how can i fix it?
Thanks for sharing the recipe, although it seems a little bit runny.
It's actually called "New England Clam Chowder" - not Boston Clam Chowder. But it still looks very good. :)
A lot of those specialty ingredients we don't have locally here in Florida but they also didn't have candybars nor chips nor anything interesting like gum etc...ha-ha

Right. I use lobster base now. Works well.
They must have stoped making the clam base any suggestions would be appreciated, knorr makes one but it's very expensive.
II haven’t tried anything else yet. I will probably try Knorr when my BTB runs out.

My local Asian grocer, Assi Plaza, has amazing powdered soup bases including Clam.
So I dont have clam base, what can I use to substitute it?
Chicken base...or chicken stock and more clam juice might work...not as clammy though.
@@chefskiphansen8814 thank you! (I used chicken bouillon)I made it today and took it to a gathering and every one loved it
no roux?

What else can you use the clam base for? Your jar is pretty used up.
I don't have clam base, but I'd say you could probably use it in a seafood risotto, ramen broth, or miso.
clams are mostly gone?

Very close to mine however for real Boston chowder use salt pork in place of bacon and dill in place of chives
Buy clam base on Amazon...Better Than Bouillion brand.

place in Monterery doesn't use potatotoes, its perfect.
I invented this
Wow! What a bunch of nasty comments on this! I’d say if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything! Sheesh!
Dude everytime you said teaspoon you meant tablespoon lol.
It's New England chowder, not Boston. Just an FYI.
Not Thick enough,,waaay to wet
Yes, way too wet. Proper chowder let’s your spoon stand up in it.
Looks like customers are getting more bread than clam chowder. Sad.
he said skip and loretta lmao
Don't believe it 3/8,not 1/2 inch dice!
Why spill it on the the plate like that? The final presentation should look elegant 😕

White pepper is nasty, black pepper tastes better in clam chowder.
No fresh clams? Forget it. They’re so cheap and you can make your own stock! I steam em with lots of celery.
I fell asleep on this video after only watching it for 30 seconds
as soon as i saw the canned clams i couldn't watch sorry that's not clam chowder
