As an introvert I understand. You want to express yourself but also want to be invisible.
Exactly
Wanting to express oneself through a medium and industry which is conducive to mass adulation and public scrutiny while desiring to remain anonymous and invisible does not work, I believe. To top it off, being married to a super high- profile celebrity makes it all the more impossible.
Yes. As an introvert myself I always say that my super power is invisibility and I would hate to lose it.
No introvert would put themselves out there like this for this long.
@@christopappageorge827 You got that right!

That shatters his entire argument.
Certainly wouldn't say eloquently. Passionately, seemingly genuinely sure. He stumbled over a few phrases here. No hate, just no eloquence either

Yeah lol noticed that too
I completely understand him. Introverts get to be misunderstood as rude or arrogant. He explained it very well.
I’ll bet he was rude and arrogant to the kids on the island
The most understandable and reasonable response ever.
Absolute horseshit (Ben's comments, not yours poster). They don't want the negative attention, but love all the benefits. The money, the women, the perks, the adoration.... By definition an actor HAS to be a narcissist. Your very existence depends on the focus of the public. There is no question the public's obsession with celebrities must be a nightmare, not to mention the paparazzi. But you can always walk away.... Many of them do. That's why I've got little sympathy.
Response to what?
@@Lucas-fo8cito fame as a whole.
Hes full of it 😂
Don’t be so gullible. He loves the attention. They all do. That’s not even a judgment or me saying they’re bad for loving the attention. But they do. This quote sounds good, and he gets to play the reluctant star, and I’m sure he and most of them get frustrated with certain aspects of their fame sometimes, but overall they choose this, they want this, and they’d rather have it than watch it go away. And don’t even get me started on the money. They (understandably) love that too.
It’s nice to hear his side of things instead of us assuming and enabling whatever the media/paparazzi paints him out to be in whatever pictures they take

Totally agree with not idolizing people for pretending to be a character.
In places like LA though, few people are that flat as to confuse you for your “characters” they may appreciate the stretch between the various characters because that is more of an acting challenge. However in this day and age, fame has increasingly become a liability to many. Because we have a military state which favors corporate interests so that fan chatting to you while getting an autograph maybe an PI or attorney looking to get deets to sue your ass.
@@pearpo Im sure the psychology of being an actor isnt great, but im generalizing and believe people shouldn't idolize people pretending to be something they aren't. That would absolve a lot of problems in general.
There’s an art to be being a great actor and it’s very difficult to portray a fictional character and/or an actual person and make it come to life. Being able do research where you have to understand every aspect of the characters persona from their mannerisms, their speech patterns, their demeanor, they way they walk, their world view is something that’s extremely difficult to do. Nobody should be idolized but they should be respected for the art they’re able to bring to life and move to people to laughter, tears, thought provocation, insightfulness, etc.
@@vincew4297 There's a fine line between respect and idolizing. The fact people in general can't delineate between the two is the problem, thus the reason im saying people shouldn't be idolized regardless of talents.

He doesn’t have the balls to admit that he wants to reap the rewards of fame and fortune, but doesn’t want to experience the drawbacks of fame and fortune? You can’t have one without the other.

I love his honesty. I can’t imagine being a celebrity. All that attention and no privacy. It would be horrible. I would feel the same way if I was in his position.
Right? It does not seem desirable to me at all.
People just hate on affleck for no reason. What he's saying is true, every job has a part that people hate to do, and he hates the celebrity aspect of it and you know what he's right, ever since his fame paparazzi has been way too interested in his personal life which has taken a toll on him obviously, I mean think about it, the amount of attention you get when you just wanna get home? I’m the same way. People who are introverts aren’t people that are painfully shy or socially inept, we don’t need people to feel that good. We enjoy being around people for a short time, usually have a great time, and can be last rhe leave the party. But we need days after to be alone or with our loved ones to recharge. We find many ways to entertain ourselves and feel happy. So kudos to Ben for being so honest. I can’t even imagine the terrible life of being a celebrity and being commented on on every aspect of my life. No wonder they’re nasty to the paparazzi - I would be, too.
This is true best I've heard it described is introverts charge their own batteries and extroverts charge their batteries when they're out with people
Glad to see some people actually know introvert doesn’t mean you’re shy or have social anxiety. It also doesn’t mean you hate people.
Beautifully said.
I agree it must be stressful for him but I don’t feel bad for him, it’s a choice.
If he didn’t think the pros outweighed the cons, he has enough money to disappear somewhere remote until the public forgets about him, then come back and just have an almost normal life,no paparazzi, only a handful of mega fans stopping him for pictures

What do you think the writer's strike was all about?? 🤦🏽♀️ And Ben doesn't just "act" he writes scripts, and he makes films! He already started small in the very beginning of his career. You *do* know there are a lot of actors out there that hate the "fame" part??? Many have spoke on it. They want to act and be left alone. That's why many thrive on privacy. Tom Holland himself has recently spoken of this.
The biggest issue for Ben is that he married a freaking extrovert narcissist, and he has to keep up with appearances. He hates everything Jen loves. Before he married Lopez, he was very private. Which was a great thing because throughout his career, he's been wrongly criticized.

He is a very skilled player of the world's smallest violin. I wish he was a great actor.
Everyone hearing, I get out of speeding tickets, restaurant eservations, I don't want in line at Disneyland . . .and wondering how disappointed you got it all without giving anything to society that is actually profound. You are an entertainer. That's it.
Great to see someone have so much respect for the acting industry...
@@obsidianwarrior5580he gave them more respect than they deserve.
He is a wealthy, famous entertainer. Sad. 😭
Actaully I like the way he explained it. This is a job and I think thaf after the performance, doing your duties, etc. you should be left alone like everybody else and not followed everywhere like some kind of prey. We are all humans.
“He is also the only person Ben Affleck has ever been faithful to. Please welcome Matt Damon” Ricky Gervais
Perfect explanation of the fame paradox. I need it, so I can do my job, but I don’t like the invasion of privacy. I would be exactly the same
He doesn’t like his privacy being invaded, but he invaded the privacy of children (and a lot worse) on the island with JE
The most valid take ive heard from a celebrity in a while
You just said a "celebrity" had a valid take on not wanting to be famous... do you know what the word celebrity means? I cant imagine thinking of someone who only furthers the wealth gap as a stand up guy. This guy cant even fuck J Lo right...
No, that’s from working he’s worked for the Money, fame is a byproduct of his working- there is a difference.
Raw honesty right there.
Ben: I’d like to just do my job and leave the celebrity part.
His current job: Celebrity
Nah, his job is actor/director/writer.
Thank you! I thought I was the only one here who was disgusted by this tone deaf malarchy. I’m really just an everyday person who hates being famous but hey, since I am I will live the high life in all the beautiful places the rest of the world can’t afford to step foot in.
His current job: actor, writer, producer.
@@Elizabeth-490Did you even try to understand what he said? I’m sure he’s fully aware that being famous is a byproduct of this profession and that he lives a privileged life but it doesn’t merit the invasion of privacy he receives from paparazzi and the media. The man just wants to act and direct movies lmao
@@Elizabeth-490 it means nothing if u cant enjoy that without cameras in your face 24/7. the people living the best lives are the filthy rich people no one really knows
WOW. I didn't know there were so many problems being rich and famous.
The worries of choosing food over medicine don't seem so bad anymore.
Thanks Ben.
This is such a small brained take from this. He is just talking about his own experience and doesn't even compare to anyone else's.
@@jarod9135you said it perfectly! How did they take that from this whole clip? People really just operate with blinders on sometimes! What a simple minded way of taking an honest opinion from someone and somehow making it about you.
Honesty a beautiful thing 😊
“I don’t want to be famous” but I became a Hollywood actor.
Makes perfect sense to me.
He should have stayed in Boston and served clam chowder to tourists then.
Way to misunderstand, exactly as he said people would. Are teachers expected to love grading papers? Are chefs expected to love cleaning dishes? Just because something comes with the job doesn’t mean you have to love every part of it. His job as an actor is to give a performance, it’s totally valid to not enjoy the paparazzi/invasion part of it. If you love everything about your job, good for you. But it’s totally okay for people to love what they do and to find issues with other parts.
I agree. He is full of $h!t. Why not exclusively do Broadway plays or be a local actor? He was the one who wanted to start in nationwide or worldwide movies that would (GASP) make one famous. How stupid.
"I don't want the fame. Just give me the millions of dollars."
Uh...literally doesn't work that way so YOU have to make a choice.
@@TheDylanHoang True nut nobody wants to hear a wealthy person complain.
Nobody wants to hear a poor person complain
Oh man I still remember when South Park made fun of him and I wonder if he still thinks about that.
Ewwwwwww Ben affleck splooge!
He should have a talk show called "Dialogue " with Matt, Ben, and Brady
He’s got to know the rules of the game in order to win.
It’s part of the package, can’t have one without the other.
And he has every right to say he doesn't like it. Good on him. He told us why he doesn't like it, and you choose to conflate his point into a posture that doesn't reflect his point at all. You gave a perfect example of why he said, "Fame? I don't like it at all... You can keep it."
A perfect example.
I agree. People who sign up to be famous complaining about being famous. I can't stand it. There is no excuse to be ignorant now. Because of fans and paparazzis, everyone should know by now what comes with being a well known actor or musician. I don't feel bad for him. I am not a fan of Ben Affleck, so I wouldn't stop to see him even if he was on fire, but this was the life he chose. He got up and said that he wanted to make movies that would earn him millions. Well, guess what? That comes with fame, and fame is a very extroverted and demanding status. I don't feel bad for him.
If it wasn't for the fame he wouldn't be making millions a picture. The more popular you are (famous), the higher your demand.
@@tarag7292 including yourself do you know anybody who doesn't complain about their job? Anybody?
@@Sketcher93 I guarantee you that they wouldn't be complaining half as much if they were making what Ben Affleck makes.
Oh puleez.
So he only likes being famous when it suits him. Gotta take good with bad or get out 6 business
Very true but of course youtube Zombies fail to grasp that in life you have to take the good with the bad at any job.
You think morticians enjoy bagging 3 day old leaking decomposed bodies? No, but the pay is fantastic.
Your name fits
@richardmayora1289 thanks put some thought into it😀
He hit the nail on the head for most people who assume someone has narcissistic tendencies. I can’t tell you how many times I hear people say someone else is narcissistic and it’s not even near its definition. The word literally felt like it became the new thing to say for 2023-24.
I totally respect that. It's like once your in and your famous your famous and all that comes with it. I couldn't be famous because I'm not even famous and hate attention at times.
I’m pretty sick of celebrities saying they don’t like being famous but continue to do everything they can to remain famous
Because they act? Because they are the type of artists that requires being on a screen…hummmm…ok
@@thespiritualninja7339 there are plenty of places to act where you don’t exploit yourself for fame. Plenty of actors that aren’t famous. You don’t accidentally become famous and stay that way unless you want it. Will I find that interesting cuz you picked the most marketed woman on the planet to be in a relationship with where everything is built around social media and marketing her brand
And your basically a shity actor

@@gvngbvngiggy of course ...words weren't so literal
Yeah, but something I noticed back when they were together the first and then again now that they're married JLo has gone out of her way to be a more private person.
When she was with Combs, he's a rapper and rap producer so the public life is his scene. Marc Antony, another Hispanic pop star. Most musicians tend to live the night life. But both times with Matt she's shyed away from that kind of life.
