"We're focusing on charisma, we want to be a spellcaster, so we're obviously a warlock or a sorcerer..." Bards sitting in the corner, wondering why they weren't a consideration....
That's actually a very solid point, he could have been a pretty good Bard, but they're not usually known for the blasting
@@dndbuildsa College of Swords bard would fit. The bo staff as his spellcasting focus for the spells. But the sorcerer or warlock spells are by far better for the character concept.
@@chrimedina hard to argue with this point
Not enough kaboom
@@dndbuilds (me as a bard mane)
"... look at me, brother."
Okay as a gambit fan since i was a kid id say he is not a caster and specially not a glassy one, sure he throws cards but its not all he does
Best subclass? Soul knife rogue
The Draconic Bloodline really captures that Cajun spice! Wait..I'm thinking about the seasoning. 🤣🤣 Cool build!
Damn... I wish I had that line to use in the video
Warlock/Rogue would be a better build. His Thieves' Guild has a patron, so it fits better. With Warlock, Talisman gives him his well-known luck and the Archfey's Fey Presence would explain his Charisma; Eldritch Blast would be a decent stand-in for his cards. Max this out at 4th level (he doesn't need a lot of magical abilities unless you want to up the damage of his missiles, but just add invocations for that).
On the rogue side, the swashbuckler is the best fit. It makes him a very slippery character, which fits his character pretty well. Just up his Charisma and Dex as he goes up in level and you're golden.
does SA and EB work together?
@@xvader9445 Nope. But a free 1d10 of damage each round is cool.
Can you do Lucifer Morningstar from the show "Lucifer" to show how to build a character with a Persuasion or Deception to get what he wants from people's desire. 😈
He's just an aasimar eloquence bard.
Mmmh with an uncommon item from BMT, the "Card Sharps deck" from the start we can make the spellcasting base attack nearly fitting and based on dexterity sooo what about a rogue/ sorcerer? With a background that can amp this "deck's" competence?
Outstanding. I never would have guessed sorcerer for Gambit.
However, this is just me. But I would buid Remy LeBeau as a Bard with a few levels of swashbuckler rogue for his theif skills. Also, Gambit does have the mutant ability called charm so you can't miss that.
Agree, due to his Thief Guild past, it'a a shame bo staff (Quarterstaff) is not a subtle weapon. A Versatile can't be used fot sneak attack.
Can you make cid kagenou from 'the eminence in shadow' please
In terms of his bread and butter, Gambit is actually pretty simple. He's basically a Warlock who spams Eldritch Blast with the Repelling Blast invocation.
Rather then the last 3 levels of sorcerer maybe throw in some fighter levels for the sake of action surge
Does force damage have stun properties? And what items would you attune to him? What would you replace dragon wings with to make it all fit?
Why not also give him Paladin or Fighter with the Sorcerer?
Cartomancers hidden ace works with any spell in your spell lists, you don't even need to be able to cast it.
You can take a one level dip into wizard, get cartomancer, and have access to bonus action fireballs for big damage, or bonus action wishes for the power of friendship
Can you perhaps make Kakuzu from Naruto?
Or all the members of Akatsuki?
Here a stupid idea... Just make the psyblade rogue and just convert the psychic to Force damage. So you can have the "throwing" boom blade like cards.
I was certain he would go with soulknife rogue
That feels like a better fit for Psylocke.
@@MaJunior00 It could work for both. Though Psylocke is the archetype it was going for.
@@LupineShadowOmega I don't think it's a fit for Gambit at all, honestly. Telepathic communication, teleportation, invisibility? None of those are Gambit. Even the idea of reflavoring the psychic blades as his cards doesn't work IMO, because the psychic blades aren't physically there and his cards most certainly are.
@@MaJunior00 fair, good point. 👍
How to build a Transformer in DND (Soundwave, Shockwave, or Thundercracker)
Warforged Druid, what else would you like?
Hey, are you planning for a Nami or Nico Robin Build?
'Cause I have Ideas for building them in DND.
Thank you. This video could not have come at a better time. I am going to pull several inspirations from this. Two sessions in. I didn't go sorcerer, but Order of the Scribes Wizard. I like making my spellbook a deck of cards. I am going to take spell sniper. My magic missile and catapult spells can change damage types. Firebolt flavored as throwing flaming cards as a cantrip. Again, perfect timing.
Hopefully this could be adapted into Setzer Gabbiani from Final Fantasy 6.
*Draconic bloodline*
Orrrrr not...
Also, infuse non organic material? But cards are made of paper material and thus are organic.
I have shamefully never really played any of the pre-7 final fantasies
@@dndbuildsNo time like the present! The main character has a great power that I'd love to see translated to tabletop gaming (though sadly to tell you what it is would be a massive spoiler)
They do quite a bit to that paper... also anything dead is no longer active cells.
Wild magic sorcerer would be Setzer with a few tweaks. He would use random spells, like chaos bolt as well as alot of save or suck spells to represent chance. And of course tides of chaos wild magic surge is his slot machine
I would pick 1 level in hexblade just to be able to attack with the staff using Charisma, but i'm happy with what you did. Now i have a good base play Gambit myself. : )
I would take at least 2 levels of Hexblade so I could grab Agonizing Blast, Repelling Blast/ Devil's Sight, & the Shield spell
Taking magic initiate/ritual caster Druid or a level dip into Druid for Shillelagh could also work making that quaterstaff a bit better.
Wouldn't it work better if they took three levels of warlock for pact of the blade? They could get Eldritch blast naturally and then the invocation that pushes a character back 10 ft which could be a form of explosion, but then they would be able to add their charisma modifier to their bo staff instead of splitting too much of their skills by having to power up wisdom for shillele.
@@dgnslyr90 yeah, that’d be better actually
*startle* sorry I'm not used to see DnD builds video that uses sorcerer
Lol, I know, sorcerers are a bit harder to customize when it comes to their abilities since they align so hard with specific DnD ideas
Alright!, rather than a full 20 levels in Sorc, I would only do 12 as Sorcerer and 8 levels Monk.
This gives full ASI but also really decent Martial ability.
On my Gambit build I took Ice Knife and my GM let me reskin it as Force damage.
I really wanted Magic Stone to fit well, but it’s just such a mediocre spell that I never used it.
Okay. I'm working on a Variant Human Sorcerer myself. With the free feat, Spell Sniper, taking Eldritch Blast. As well as the same background. A weird coincidence I know. I just picked Aberrant Mind instead of Draconic Bloodline. For Cantrips I picked, Firebolt, Shape Water, Mage Hand, and Minor Illusion. Or Prestidigitation instead of Minor Illusion if I didn't want the Cartomancer Feat or I could stick with Minor Illusion and go with something like Lucky or Fey Touched. Okay now that I think about it, I could just take Eldritch Adept for Agonizing Blast. In terms of first level spells, I was hoping you could help with some ideas.
I would probably multiclass him with level 5 thief because before joining the X-Men, that is what he was.
oh that would have been a good call, wish I had thought of that one
Also there has been multiple times in which Gambit relied on stealth than his exploding cards.
Cartomancer, while thematic and fitting the character build, is a horribly written feat.
If a DM allows this to cast a second 9th lvl spell, (even worse with a 1 level multi-class dip from any other full spell caster) as a bonus action without using a spell slot, then you’ve already broken the game.
There is no sage advice on the feat, (So far) but I had to ban it from my game to keep my players from destroying the game.
Every table and game is different, I get that, but this can make every other player irrelevant at times, even in tier 2 play.
I really dislike this feat, a lot.
Sorry, rant over.
I really thought this would have some rogue or bard mixed in with warlock to capture the non spell casting parts of what Gambit is.
It’s nice to see other examples though.
This build was awesome!!! Can you do Hak Foo from Jackie Chan Adventures?
Next time I get the chance to play DnD I wanna build him and see how long it takes the other players or DM to realize
You should remake this one, since Critical Role came out with the Taldorei Reborn setting 🤘
Just do a sorlock focusing on quick EB + agonizing blast for the card stuff
I would’ve used eldritch adept feat and got extra damage on eldritch blast
Honesty a sword bard/soulknife rogue muticlass would make more senses
Could you do a Cole Cassidy build from overwatch 2?
This, this is why I play Old School Essentials. Why not make an original character?
Because that’s not the conceit of the video.
Would you do videos for game of thrones characters
You planning on a Nightcrawler build?
Couldn't you have soulknife?
How do you get Eldritch Blast without being a Warlock?
The spell sniper feed allows you to grab a can trip from any spell list, as long as you use the corresponding ability score. Only downside is that you don't get the Eldridge invocation agonizing blast which would boost up the damage pretty considerably
I think those last 5 levels should've gone into a martial class to build his melee skills
Horizon walker ranger would be pretty good to add force damage to melee attacks
How bout doing highlander there can be only one
If I was making Gambit I would prioritize Stats like Dex - Wis- Chr(13+)- Con- Int (Dump) & Str(dump). Criminal Background. Custom Lineage. Feat- Magic Initiatite (Warlock) (W/ the cantrips Booming Blade & Eldritch Blast). First 5 or 6 levels - Monk (drunken for the amount of defense it gives). After that take levels of Rogue (Thief) (Expertise in Perception and Stealth) and Sorcerer (Any subclass- we just want the sorcerer points to modify the cantrips/spells) and if you want Warlock (Any subclass you want, we just want the invocations -Agonizing Blast specifically, but others could be useful too). Other feat(s) to get would be PoleArm Master and possibly Shadow Touched and Alert/Observant/Lucky, but I would concentrate on maxing out your Dex and Wis and depending on what you rolled increasing your Chr and Con to AT LEAST 16 (each). This would better represent his ability -IMO...
I can't thank you enough for bringing the Ragin' Cajun to life.😁 Agree with the class and speells of your choice. I would pic criminal background instead, as he is a master thief. Tempted with magic initiated for some bard tricks or even better...Shillelagh, howeber can't choose druid with this feat😅. Alternative multiclass: Just one level dip pact of the blade Hexblade warlock. For the Hex Warrior feature, the Eldritch Blast and the cool extentive Quarterstaff as a summoned weapon.
I do love Gambit! Nice build, but I think he's got to have Swashbuckler levels. If there's a solid way to make a "blasty" Bard, I think that'd be a good mix.
Howzabout Magick (Illyana Rasputin) next?
I think you need to decide what his card attacks are. Are they physical, like a dart? Or are they pure energy? Eldritch Blast is a great choice, but then stick with that. His energy is force damage. Focus on spells that do force damage and you'll be fine. If you want more explosive or fiery damage (due to the saturation of kinetic energy), then stick to Scorching Rays and Fireball. (Heck, melf's miniature meteors is a great card approximation) Haste, Freedom of Movement are great spells for a Gambit-type. He's a thief, after all. I would have gone with either rogue levels or criminal background. Or both, maybe both. Use the magic initiate feat for cantrips or first level spells not on your list. And that list should be Bard. Sorry, but Remy is a bard. Maybe even an eloquence bard, but swords/valor stand out for the weapon training. Use your magical secrets for more non-bard spells that fit your energy type (force or fire).
The list of characters I wouldn't mind seeing is still pretty short: Ryuji or Yusuke from Persona 5, or Akito from Ghostwire Tokyo.
Gambit has never insulted anyone better than Gambit with that outfit.
Psionics work well for Gambit with psychokinetic energy being transfered into objects to explode.
Man Made Mythology and Mutants & Masterminds both exist in the 3e OGL and literally have these exact powers statted out for the traditional D&D six stats, and the three saves of 3e+.
RIP Gambit.
He didnt die on the movie
Created by The Great Jim Lee.
Overall, I like it very much.
2 things to note that I would have embellished upon:
1. The thief aspect.
2. Remy goes to Mr. Sinister to downsize his powers after defeating his fiancée's brother.
Probably needs a level of Rogue.
Idk if this is where i ask but could u do Sebastian from black butler I've had a few thoughts about making him a skill monkey but he loses attack potency or if u go to much into damage a he not one hell of a butler so was wondering if i was missing something and if u guys could take a stab at it
I feel like warlock works better for him deffinetly with his past in the thieves guild.
yo could an elf race work?
Can you build cyclops
Literally just an Eldritch Blast spamming Warlock
7:10 this doesn't double the doubled distance.. it doubles the base. Your casting distance is still it's base so it's additive
I would trade out some levels of sorcerer for level of rogue. Gambit was a thief.
I'd love to see your takes on Slash (TMNT 2012) or Taskmaster (Marvel comics).
Isn't Slash just a Shifter/Firbolg Beast Barbarian?
@johannesstephanusroos4969 I was thinking a Tortle Barbarian Ranger to get that Gloom Stalker Stealth for his ninja abilities, especially for the 2012 incarnation.
@@Camus1025 Oh, I got him mixed up with Dogpound. My bad
@@johannesstephanusroos4969 no worries! I'd honestly love to see his takes on Tigerclaw or the Newtralizer.
Remember it.
~_~
Could you also do a Nightcrawler build
Day 8 of asking for uncle Iroh
I think you'd have gotten some more character depth beyond the mutant power if you'd multiclassed to Rogue (Thief) -- since Gambit's background has him as a member of the Thieves Guild. I think one thing that was also neglected was that Gambit is considered one of the best hand-to-hand/martial artists of the Marvel Universe (even moreso among the X-Men -- he's shown to be Wolverine's equal or better),
I think I'd have gone 10 Sorcerer / 7 Rogue / 3 Fighter. That's enough Sorceror to get a strong foundation in Eldritch Blast plus Metamagic. Enough Rogue to get Thieves Cant, Cunning Action, Uncanny Dodge, and Evasion -- all of which fit really nicely. As for the fighter levels -- since we're using Eldritch Blast to represent the cards (mostly), I'm going to use the Fighter skills to represent his staff work -- so for the fighting style I would either go Dueling or Close Quarters Shooter (rather than Thrown Weapon). Action surge is always nice to have and for the Martial Archetype, I'd go Psychic Warrior (mostly to get Augmented Defenses and Strikes).
How are you getting that Eldritch Blast with no Warlock levels?
@@feinne7652 With the Spell Sniper feat (like he did in the video).
I'd have dipped into Rogue and/or Fighter for combat options. Also, use a feat to grab Invocations for boosting the Eldritch Blast.
Eh, unfortunately the eldritch adept feat doesn't allow you to take invocation that have a prerequisite. So no EB boosting invocations, unless you want to sell your soul and become a warlock.
@@ericpeterson8732 unless you already meet that prerequisite: like Agonizing Blast just requires having the cantrip, as does Eldritch Spear and Repelling Blast.
This is actually really good, I love it
Have you done colossus?
What's cartomancer? What book is it from?
It's a card focused casting feat, from the book of many things. It's a bit busted if you use it properly but it definitely fits this character
“Remember it.”
Could you make Blade?
Dhampyr BattleMaster fighter.
Thank you
@@ryannewman6574 you're welcome my friend.
I was waiting for this my whole life
Glad I could provide lol
My first instinct is to pick soul knife rogue and flavour your psi blades as cards.
