I’m an aspiring track and field athlete starting her journey at the age where most athletes peak. At 26 I’m 27 now. I came to this video for inspiration. I can’t wait to come back and comment when I win my Olympic gold medal 🥇
I’m 16 almost 17 and want to join a sportclub, I have no experiences with competitive sports, and I am very bad at them. Your comment is giving me hope that I can become better at sports and achieve some kind of good results. I wish you all the best and good luck on your sports journey.
Well, Milito was not actually a late bloomer, he was just very underrated. He was great player both in Genoa and Zaragoza, but only get recognition when he moved to Inter.
To be honest the same stories can go for a ton of NBA players. A lot of them did not start playing until high school or college, especially the big guys. You hear it in bio interviews all the time, they never played basketball and then all of a sudden they went on a massive growth spurt in their mid teens then decided to try basketball.
It would be like having Jim Carey be on the list. He was a minor league goalie who won the Vezina (best Goalie in the NHL) and then was done a year later. FYI, not the actor.
I think most people in the world right now think jamie Vardy when they hear late bloomer. What's wrong with you Watch Mojo? He was a HUGE part in the biggest upset in sports history, hands down.
this is a list of people who started at their sport late and became some of the greatest of all-time....vardy didnt start playing football later in his life and he's not one of the greatest of all-time yet
How can Adam Gilchrist not be on this list, some of you might know him as 'churchy' or 'gilly.' Sensational man making his test debut at 28 and becoming one of those greats who always shows up to his local milo club
I wrote watchmojo onto my 2016 ballot. Fuck the spelling of this video, you guys still make my morning everyday. Thank you so much for doing what you do.
In addition to being a great goaltender, Bill Durnan was also ambidextrous. He was able to catch the puck with either hand, and was often able to switch hands with his goal stick.
Lest no one forget the late great Dazzy Vance. won his first major league game at the ripe old age of 31, yet pitched for 13 more years, winning an MVP, a world series at the ripe old age of 43, and an induction in the baseball Hall of Fame
Jamie Vardy? Starting in the lowest tier of football and making it to the Premier League, as well as breaking a goal scoring record and winning the league. Brilliant achievement.
Hakeem Olajuwon and Dikembe Mutombo started playing late, but at least they still made the NBA right after college, and were highly touted. Dennis Rodman was an NBA rookie when he was 26 during the 1986-97 season, and nothing much at all was expected from him. Another baseball pitcher I was thinking of was lefty Jaime Moyer, who finished with about 270 career wins although he barely still had less than 60 at age 33. He was named All-Star only in 2003, the year he turned 41. That year and 2001 were also the only seasons where he won 20 or more games, and he was 39 and 41 those years. His most notable years - including winning a World Series with the Phillies - were actually in the 2000's decade, when he was in his 40's.
I think Rich Gannon should've been on this list, or at least an honorable mention. He bounced around from team to team and didn't have sustained success until he joined the Oakland Raiders at age 33 and went to Super Bowl XXXVII at the age of 37.
How about Andre De Grasse? He just ran a track meet for fun at 17 and caught the attention of a National coach... A few years later, he wins silver and 2 bronze at the Olympics.
Yes Mojo, you forgot the most succesfull Striker in Football World Cup History. Miroslav Klose played on Amateur Level until 22...then for three years in a struggling Bundesliga Side.
When Didier Drogba went to Chelsea they were actually a smaller club than Marseille as it's only since the mid 2000s that Chelsea have come to prominence and Marseille have dropped off. Chelsea certainly weren't 'renowned'at the time. Not saying that Drogba doesn't deserve to be on this list - the guy's a legend - but when he moved to England it wasn't considered that much of a step up from Marseille.
Lots of goalies started "late". Rolosson had great playoff runs at 36+. If he wasn't run over "accidentally", the Oilers would have won the Stanley Cup.
Given how little (positive) attention this channel seems to give combat sports, I'm pleasantly surprised that Randy Couture cracked the Top 5. I was ready to riot if he wasn't, but now I don't have to.
R.A. Dickey had one season of success with the Mets... just one. He came to Toronto and completely lost what he found. The inconsistency of his performances was excruciating to watch as a Blue Jays fan
I dont understand how u have only few sports inthat list. There are many other sports in the world than just hockey, football, baseball, basketball and american football...
my thought 10s into video: "If Jaromir Jagr is not at least in top5 there's something really really wrong. Furthermore, many late bloomers come from earlier times, so he really deserves #1 spot"
Where is Nolan Ryan? He was in his mid 20's like many of these guys when he took of. He hold most strikeouts in a year, no hitters and most strikeouts ever with over 5,000 K's he's the only pitcher in MLB history to have 5,000 K's
After just two and a half great years, it's too early to include him on a list like this. If he keeps it up for a few more years, then he'll have an argument.
MrBrenman21 please tell me you're an American, so I can tell you that football players("soccer" players) are 10 times better athletes than your "football" players where play lasts 10 seconds and where only 2 players require some sort of skill, and don't let me even start with baseball- whoever invented that game- that is as sport as golf is
Marko Jurić they are both WAY harder than you think. In baseball it is not just athleticism like football (soccer) there are so much things going in in baseball
They left out the part about R.A. Dickey that really held him back. You know that ligament that is the subject of Tommy John Surgery, the one that's key to pitchers being able to throw... Dickey doesn't have it. it literally cost him $725,000 when he was first drafted by the Texas Rangers. the signing bonus he was offered was about $800,000 until the doctors told the team about his arm. They cut it down to $75,000.
I’m an aspiring track and field athlete starting her journey at the age where most athletes peak. At 26 I’m 27 now. I came to this video for inspiration. I can’t wait to come back and comment when I win my Olympic gold medal 🥇
You got this!
Well I thought starting with 17 is to late
You can do it!!!!!!?🤠🤠🤠🤠
I’m 16 almost 17 and want to join a sportclub, I have no experiences with competitive sports, and I am very bad at them. Your comment is giving me hope that I can become better at sports and achieve some kind of good results. I wish you all the best and good luck on your sports journey.
@@tomato_6681 same to you 😁😁
Jamie Vardy better be on this list, unbelievable achievement winning the Premier League from almost quitting football.
Callum Cruickshank haven't watched the vid yet but ima kill myself if he isn't on there
unlucky lads
"chat shit, get banged", they'll regret not include him on the list
Soooo stupid. I swear it's as if they only recognise American sports as actual sports
Callum Cruickshank Why should a one season wonder be on the list. It is just a fluke. 1/5000.
You missed Damon Hill. 1996 F1 World Champion. Started his F1 career in his 30s
Diego Milito
but 'Mojo never seems to do research outside USA and England
I am not talking about nationalities, but where they play
Well, Milito was not actually a late bloomer, he was just very underrated. He was great player both in Genoa and Zaragoza, but only get recognition when he moved to Inter.
Marko Jurić a i nije bio bas neki fudbaler, sta vise kod nas je precenjen, on je bio klasican spic koje mi balkanci iz nekog razloga obozavamo pored toliko odlicnih fudbalera
As an Argentine I agree. He was already a very high profile player early in his career at Racing and Zaragoza
Yay, Kurt Warner definitely deserved to be on this list. Don't forget that he also played in two other Super Bowls and won another MVP award.
Only ever heard of Drogba and Olajuwon
Instead of some unknown guys, you could have included Jamie Vardy, Luca Toni and Noriaki Kasai
Those are 3 unknown players to me.
I khow almost all of them in the video except for the people u said
Your 5 if you haven't heard of Kurt Warner
you've never heard of the Big Unit, Randy Johnson?
shame on you!
Jamie Vardy is having a party and obviously you Watchmojo were not invited.
what age did he start playing professional football?
If Jamie Vardy isnt first i will riot
he had one great season, and is no where to be seen this season
Would've liked to have seen Cameroon striker Roger Milla make it onto the list. He reached his peak as a striker at the age of 38.
To be honest the same stories can go for a ton of NBA players. A lot of them did not start playing until high school or college, especially the big guys. You hear it in bio interviews all the time, they never played basketball and then all of a sudden they went on a massive growth spurt in their mid teens then decided to try basketball.
When I read the title I instantly thought about Jamie Vardy and he isn't even in the list
Rocky Marciano. He started at 23 and retired as undefeated heavyweight boxing champion of the world.
where the fuck is vardy?!?!?
all the guys on this list have had multiple great seasons, vardy had one great season and is struggling already this season
Am starting to a new game at the age of 18. I needed the inspiration
where tf is jamie vardy... from non-league football to winning the prem with leicester...
ffs watchmojo, thought you were better than this.
Swerve where the fuck is he?!? they don't give a fuck about football
Cow Games FUCK OFF HE HAD ONE GOOD SEASON. THEY MAY NOT KNOW IF HE STAYS CONSISTENT
he one good season, all the guys on this list have had multiple great seasons, and vardy already dissapeared this season
Swerve He's not world class
It would be like having Jim Carey be on the list. He was a minor league goalie who won the Vezina (best Goalie in the NHL) and then was done a year later. FYI, not the actor.
Where is Michael Hussey? Never take notice of Australia or other smaller countries like that.
My mom tells me it’s too late for me to become pro at baseball, I am using this video as a inspiration
I think most people in the world right now think jamie Vardy when they hear late bloomer. What's wrong with you Watch Mojo? He was a HUGE part in the biggest upset in sports history, hands down.
one great season and no where to be seen now
Ricardo Reyes "Great season" . . . Great doesn't begin to cover it
this is a list of people who started at their sport late and became some of the greatest of all-time....vardy didnt start playing football later in his life and he's not one of the greatest of all-time yet
Dex Dorrey Fair enough
@@ricardoreyes9246 this aged well...
Fucking Brandon Weeden is on the list but not Jamie Vardy?
Ever heard of Jamie Vardy? There are only athletes who have performed in the USA on this list, I haven't heard of half of them
I never heard of Vardy, so...
Who the fuck is he?
Hallstein Mohr Hansen usa has best athletes
"chat shit, get banged", jamie vary is coming for you
Baltasar gonçalves VARY
vardy*
Baltasar gonçalves in what age vardy started
28
In addition to being a great goaltender, Bill Durnan was also ambidextrous. He was able to catch the puck with either hand, and was often able to switch hands with his goal stick.
I don't watch basketball, so when Mutombo started speaking at 8:15 I was like "WHAT THE FUCK, BATMAN!!!"
Thank you, This inspired me.
I see Dickey and I start watching
Lest no one forget the late great Dazzy Vance. won his first major league game at the ripe old age of 31, yet pitched for 13 more years, winning an MVP, a world series at the ripe old age of 43, and an induction in the baseball Hall of Fame
Jamie vardy deserves it more than anyone on this list
People who start playing a sport in their teens is not a late bloomer in my book. You can't bloom late if you never been planted in the ground.
No. But most athletes go pro in the teens or early 20. But go pro in mid 20 and early 30 is extremely hard
Off the top of my head: Justin Turner, Daniel Murphy, Rich Hill, and Jamie Vardy.
Harry Potter vardy has had one good season and now isn't doing anything.
He's a finisher with nothing to finish.
Jamie Vardy? Starting in the lowest tier of football and making it to the Premier League, as well as breaking a goal scoring record and winning the league. Brilliant achievement.
Great spelling of 'were' there
Sean Mackenzie Haah IKR
Sean Mackenzie they are smart...
Sean Mackenzie Where?
Yeah, they changed it now though. Just gonna leave the comment there to remind them
Hakeem Olajuwon and Dikembe Mutombo started playing late, but at least they still made the NBA right after college, and were highly touted. Dennis Rodman was an NBA rookie when he was 26 during the 1986-97 season, and nothing much at all was expected from him.

Kurt Warner should be on the list. He’s a Super Bowl champion.
Seeing Antonio Gates and LaDainian Tomlinson on the Chargers during that era was a treat.
I think Rich Gannon should've been on this list, or at least an honorable mention. He bounced around from team to team and didn't have sustained success until he joined the Oakland Raiders at age 33 and went to Super Bowl XXXVII at the age of 37.
Ever heard of Jamie Vardy ?
Drogba ....what a player
One of the only players I would call a Chelsea legend, along with Zola, Lampard, Terry and Cech
Santiago Bauzá makelele
fiachra Foley He already had made a name for himself before heading to Chelsea, plus he only stayed for five years. He was a good player overall.
How about Andre De Grasse? He just ran a track meet for fun at 17 and caught the attention of a National coach... A few years later, he wins silver and 2 bronze at the Olympics.
+Watchmojo, please respond, why isn't Jamie Vardy included in the list?
do a top 10 boxing heavy weights of all time
Its never too late for anything!
Warner at #1? Fair enough!
Tim Duncan has a good story...he picked up basketball when he had to give up swimming due to the circumstances of his life in the Virgin Islands.
Nice
You forgot Yolanda Griffith, Cynthia Cooper, Michele Timms, Tully Bevilaqua, etc.
Johnny Bower should be on this list!
I am surprised Diamond Dallas Page didn't make the list.
BTW, wrestlers do count as athletes, despite what critics say about wrestling.
José Bautista? Dennis Rodman? John Starks?
Harry Gant didn't make it to Cup until he was in his late 30's and Won Four Cup races in a row at the young age of 51 in 1991.
There is a typo in the title. It's were not where
Misbah-ul-Haq !!! Captain of Pakistan cricket team, age 45 years !!! Absolute legend !!!
no jamie vardy
didn't play a top flight game till he was 28
n played most of his life in non league football
Yes Mojo, you forgot the most succesfull Striker in Football World Cup History. Miroslav Klose played on Amateur Level until 22...then for three years in a struggling Bundesliga Side.
There are quite a few great athlete that I would nominate to this list but if i have to choose just one it would be Graham Hill.
What about Jimmy Morris? Oldest Mlb rookie ever and he had a 98 mile an hour fastball.
When Didier Drogba went to Chelsea they were actually a smaller club than Marseille as it's only since the mid 2000s that Chelsea have come to prominence and Marseille have dropped off. Chelsea certainly weren't 'renowned'at the time. you missed Miroslav Klose, he was in his mid-20's when he became professional and is one of the best strikers in soccer for sure...
This has to be the earliest WatchMojo video I have ever seen.
Dazzy Vance is in the Baseball Hall of Fame despite not becoming a regular until the age of 31.
It would be nice If you did som research next time. Milito and Vardy?
Johnny Bower won 4 cups with the leafs. He became a starter at the age of 39.
In an era where there were 6-12 spots for goalies.
Didier Drogba and Randy Couture are the only athletes I know in this list.
Filippo Inzaghi. Ex-striker for A.C. Milan. He became elite at age 27 or 28
R.A. Dickey had one season of success with the Mets... just one. He came to Toronto and completely lost what he found. The inconsistency of his performances was excruciating to watch as a Blue Jays fan
I give a like for Kurt Warner
I dont understand how u have only few sports inthat list. There are many other sports in the world than just hockey, football, baseball, basketball and american football...
there's only 10 sports and you can't have every minor sport represented here.
Where’s Havier Baez and Christian Yelich
do a top 10 area 11 songs
I just clicked to see how many comments there were about the typo
Do top 10 Tragically Hip songs
"When nobody believed in us, You guys did and now we're going to the Super Bowl!"
Warren Moon better be on here. Speaking of moons, who's coming with me?
what about Vardy of Leicester City
my thought 10s into video: "If Jaromir Jagr is not at least in top5 there's something really really wrong. Furthermore, many late bloomers come from earlier times, so he really deserves #1 spot"
then I listened the criteria to be there and he does not actually qualify, having started is pro career aged 16 and NHL career aged 18.
I would argue that Randy Johnson would be more remembered for his wipe-out slider.
Anyone else think they were talking about puberty when they said "late bloomers"
No Degrom but you got R.A. Dickey on the list!
I'm happy for the voice actor of cookie monster
Where is Nolan Ryan? He was in his mid 20's like many of these guys when he took of. He hold most strikeouts in a year, no hitters and most strikeouts ever with over 5,000 K's he's the only pitcher in MLB history to have 5,000 K's
70% comments r about jamie vardy
chat shit get banged
Jake Arrieta should make this list. Unfortunately, I'm an Orioles fan I would know.
After just two and a half great years, it's too early to include him on a list like this. If he keeps it up for a few more years, then he'll have an argument.
No Stanimal Wawrinka? 3 slams after the age of 28 that's unheard of
Ah bruh.... what about David Robinson? He had to spend two years with the Navy after he was drafted #1 overall to the San Antonio Spurs
top ten video games set in space
bautista or encarnacion?
They're both good examples, but they're not at the same level as the players on this list.
Compucles how!?!!?
or Rich Hill. (Haven't watched the entire vid yet)
Compucles better than ra dickey
I know I’m way fuckin late but what about Lo-Cain
Excuse me where's vardy
SO early the title's messed up.
Where's Diamond Dallas Page? He started training and became a wrestler at 35.
Jeremy Gabryszak wcw and wwe is fake
While what they do is athletic, it's not a sport.
Dikembe Mutumbo sounds like cookie monster
Drogba is a one man team
Soccerplayers are athletes as well!
^barely? do you see them needing oxygen tanks after running a good distance

0:15 is there a name for those caps or something, i have a head shape that doesn't allow me to wear other, i mean i can but it looks bad
I think that Dennis Rodman should have at least gotten a HR
They left out the part about R.A. Dickey that really held him back. You know that ligament that is the subject of Tommy John Surgery, the one that's key to pitchers being able to throw...
Dickey doesn't have it. it literally cost him $725,000 when he was first drafted by the Texas Rangers. the signing bonus he was offered was about $800,000 until the doctors told the team about his arm. They cut it down to $75,000.
What about Dimitri Payet? And Jamie Vardy?
Houssam Elkhasouani payet was sick in marseille and great in his early life but he was a great player with shit players around him
Two pretty obviously ones that you missed were Shaquille O'Neal and Vince Papale.
David Ricks all day baby
