BFG balances out Escorts by largely delegating them to a support/cannon fodder role. In lore, a pack of well-captained Escorts can easily threaten many capital ships, especially since the chief way Escorts manage this is through targeting of vital sub-systems like engine, void shield emitters, and, with luck, the bridge. Escorts are best when used to cripple enemy ships, not to outright destroy them, which is why they are dangerous in a capital-ship line battle, since the danger they represent is usually understated when compared to enemy capital ships.
