Strategy + Speed + Strength + Patience + adaptation = The Muslim Arab armies of the 7th century. No wonder they crushed the byzantines and sassanians so quickly in the fashion they did even though they were outnumbered and less equipped.

🐒If I was in byzantine I would have felt sympathy to Khalid , lucky he was born early, I had a bad appetitite for women because my wife fooled me till end and I couldn't makeup myself to be above her, so I went for my enemies wife's, ok god can justify me, but I feel ashamed in another life, that I fooled myself before many women because one women fooled me, but it was ok , give and take, better than allowing my wife to fully control my conscience and getting my friends esteem for having enemy wife's, what else, also creating fear, not bad😅😂

While Khalid himself is a military genius, the religious zeal was the another reason why his armies were always in high morale and thus could launch this kind of attack. It's also proved that with high morale, your troops would be more successful in the battlefield

    1) If the enemy seems to retreat too easily, it's a feint.

A few days before his death, an old friend called to see him and sat at his bedside. Khalid raised the cover from his right leg and said to his visitor, “Do you see a space of the span of a hand on my leg which is not covered by some scar of the wound of a sword or an arrow or a lance?”
The friend examined Khalid’s leg and confessed that he did not. Khalid raised the cover from his left leg and repeated his question. Again the friend agreed that between the wounds farthest apart the space was less than a hand’s span.
Khalid raised his right arm and then his left, for a similar examination and with a similar result. Next he bared his great chest, now devoid of most of its mighty sinews, and here again the friend was met with a sight which made him wonder how a man wounded in so many places could survive. The friend again admitted that he could not see the space of one hand span of unmarked skin.
Khalid had made his point. “Do you not see?” he asked impatiently. “I have sought martyrdom in a hundred battles. Why could I not have died in battle?”
“You could not die in battle”, replied the friend.
    “Why not?”
“You must understand, O Khalid,” the friend explained, “that when the Messenger of Allah, on whom be the blessings of Allah and peace, named you the Sword of Allah, he predetermined that you would not fall in battle. If you had been killed by an unbeliever it would have meant that Allah’s sword had been broken by an enemy of Allah; and that could never be.”

Such comments can be made for Rollo of Normandy or Bjorn Ironside (yes they were historical characters. Ragnar was nigh-fictional but he existed too. Bjorn led a pretty dangerous life, survived an air raid, survived multiple shipwrecks. Rollo went from a viking to a ruler). Just don't. If Khalid did fall in battle you would say "it was the reminder that Allah grants favor as easily as he takes it away". Ridiculous and insincere.

Muslim accounts of the battle differ over the result. According to David S. Powers, the earliest Muslim sources like al-Waqidi record the battle as a humiliating defeat (hazīma). However, Montgomery Watt notes that al-Waqidi also recorded an account where the Byzantine forces fled. Powers suggests that later Muslim historians reworked the early source material to reflect the Islamic view of God's plan. Subsequent sources present the battle as a Muslim victory given that most of the Muslim soldiers returned safely.

Hannibal didn't conquer any territory but he's still a better general than both of them combined.
The amount of territory conquered is the last thing to look at when comparing great generals.
One looks at the resources each had, the quality of troops, equipment and armor, but most of all the power difference between them and those they fought, were they punching up or down?
Augustus conquered the entire eastern empire after one battle, does that make him better than Aurelian? No.
And it took Aurelian 2 battles at most against zenobia and he nearly lost the first, relying only on the quality of his troops with no tactical prowess to speak of. He was basically putting down a rebellion.
I still find Aurelian impressive, but he does not compare to the greatest generals of history. And I understand if u think Alexander or hannibal are better than Khalid, even if I don't agree, but Aurelian is not even close.
Lastly, The Persians and Byzantines might not have been at their 100%, but the strength each of them had was more than abundantly enough to squash the Muslims, especially since the Muslims were fighting both empires AT THE SAME TIME.

@Al-Samh yup, if Vahan was facing a different military commander, he might have won.
Plus, the first generations of Muslims were fierce fighter because of their faith and upbringing, the Arabian peninsula is a very harsh place.
Believe it or not, the Fremens from the Dune books, TV series and movies were based on them. The Fremen even conquered other worlds after they had reconquered Arrakis, just like what the Arabs did between the 7th and 8th Century.

Khalid defeated Muslims in the battle of Uhud. He never lost a battle. He conquered mighty Persia, took the deadly road through the desert to reach Damascus, to help to fight Byzantines, and he defeated them by jumping the wall with his men and obliterating Byzantine’s who were celebrating something and were mostly intoxicated. Khalid is a military genious.

He was generally outnumbered against the Vandals too and brought a relatively small force to reconquer large amounts of territory in Africa.
The Roman force that fought in the Africa campaign was an expeditionary unit and pretty much isolated.
The Rashidun troops weren't peasents wearing literal rags who used pitchforks.
They were professional soldiers with fighting experience, a strong dueling culture, lots of cohesion and very high morale.
