Very, very useful tips. I've been using a flashcard app for the 3 years I've been learning Russian, but I'm going to switch over to real flashcards because I find myself collecting/hoarding words and phrases and there they stay. I need to spend the time writing things out because I know, as you said, the total physical response, has to be better than what I'm currently doing. Plus, it will help with my Russian cursive writing. Thanks for your lessons and inspiration. I appreciate you.
Hi Janey. I just discovered your channel and subscribed. I've been studying Russian for two years. I have enjoyed watching your videos. My first Russian teacher told me to write out the flashcards. It has helped me learn how to write in Russian. I did not know that looking at the word in English first and being able to guess the Russian word means that it is locked into my brain. Спасибо за хороший совет.
Janey, very enjoyable video as always. My Russian reading level is somewhere between B2 and C1. From a technology point of view, I follow several Russian Instagram accounts on topics that interest me: jokes, funny memes, inspirational quotes, relationships, and self-improvement. I have ZERO discipline when it comes to flash cards. But I do write by hand lots of Russian sentences into my notebooks. How do I choose which sentences to write down? Whenever I encounter a new word, I search for it in Reverso and/or Yandex for sample sentences containing the new word, which I then transcribe by hand into a notebook. Sometimes I even jot down jokes or memes in which I do know all of those words, simply because my faith in the hand/brain connection is so strong. Back in Australia in the early 1980s, my teachers would force us little kids to copy down page after page after page of English dictation. Seemed so utterly pointless at the time, but I'm convinced it helped us become good writers and good spellers, while teaching us syntax and adding to our store of vocabulary. (Such methods are dead these days, I presume.) So, yes, I'm old school like you, but have found ways of incorporating technology into learning Russian.
Wow, and you were writing in cursive! I thought I was one of the few left who bothered to learn (probably because I am using a textbook from the 1970s). Like in the US, I hear it's becoming a lost art (same with the italicized forms).
Great tips! I know I should've started writing things down long ago. I started learning cursive earlier this year, but stopped after writing down each letter 150-200 times. Some say, "don't waste your time learning Russian cursive, you'll never use it".
Здравствуйте, Джейн! Вот и заработал голосовой перевод. Это здорово! Перевод не идеален, но очень не плох. В украинском очень много полонизмов. Вас очень приятно смотреть, вы похожи на славянку!
I’ve begun using Busuu. It starts slowly if you already know some Russian, but transitions to a bit of grammar with vocabulary, and also has good audio clips.
This is very good. I know a lot of vocabulary but my recall is not as quick as I would like it to be. Any tips on speeding up my Russian sentences? Thank you!
In addition to listening to Russian music, I also like to take lyrics from American music and paste them into Yandex. When I get the chance, I ask a native speaker whether the translation is any good because sometimes it's a little clumsy and he or she will tell me "well, we wouldn't really say it like that." After that, it's fun to sing the song in Russian instead of English and a challenge to take the words and keep them within the beat because the number of syllables always changes. Just do the songs you love, and you'll always remember those words!
Hello Jane, could you please give me an advise on how you understand prefixes in general? With verbs that don't describe motion. I feel that's what is holding me back from progressing
I need to get a set of Flashcards so badly. I've been studying Russian for over 5 years & still never used a single Flashcard. I've actually looked up every single new word I hear on Google Translate. It's exhausting. However, I have ADHD, so I tend to Procrastinate. FYI - I did learn the word "полный привод" today. Because I watched a video about the new 2024 Moscvich which is only 2 Million Rubles & has "All Wheel Drive" У меня нет машина с полный привод.
That was one of the first Russian songs I learned. I remember the phrase “за ясным солнцем вслед» was like a tongue twister that I had to drill over and over. And of course, I still know the whole song word for word 20 years later.
It says that movie Donbass is Ukrainian but it sounds exactly the same as Russian to me. That movie cracked me up. I got chill on the c(affein)e and stop machinegun comments
I'm still on the fence as to whether this woman is really good at Russian or just really bad at english. :p She also thinks Washington is southern. We'll compromise at center but the south don't get it damnit. Honest Ab would agree with me. You don't just fight a war like that and have some Russian teacher declare it southern. jeezpapacheez
"I had just illegally downloaded on Napster Russian music" - the most Russian way to listen to music, eventually.
Идеальное произношение. Все слова выговариваются, хорошо учить английский вместе с Дженни
привет из Бразилии джейн, спасибо за полезные советы 🇧🇷
Самая лучшая (легко доходчивая) учительница с американского - английского на русский это Джейни!😃👍✌️
Wow, very good tips. This is applicable to every language, so I hope this video reaches everyone, not just Russian learners.

Обожаю учить английский язык с Дженни, которая учит русскому языку 😊❤
I'm a big believer in comprehensible input and multiple repeating method

I'm learning it too. It doesn't look great, but I'm going to keep practicing.

Kudos for these videos. You explain things clearly, and your energy is contagious. Молодец! 👏
Thanks Ken! And thanks for your Patronage 😘
Great tips, love it.

Interesting. Is it a Russian specific app?
I looks like it has Russian and several other languages to choose from.

Hi, Janey! I really liked the word втюриться. What does it mean? ❤❤❤ 👍👍👍👍👍
"Втюриться" is a slang word for "влюбиться", means "fall in love".
Ничего не понял, но было интересно! Жаль перевод от Яндекс не работал с вашим видео. Интересно почему...
Hello Jane, could you please give me an advise on how you understand prefixes in general? With verbs that don't describe motion. I feel that's what is holding me back from progressing
They look like as phrasal verbs

Dear Janey, you should watch Cybervillage series!
Yes. It's more just a convenience thing. For example, "Д" is super annoying to write in print, so I just write it in cursive.
Speaking of music, I am a recovering addict. I'm sure I can stop any time (if I wanted to 😀).

They say, this song is based on old Russian mourning songs. Read the lyrics, Katyusha loved her dear in the past, and she never will see him again. 😀
My song inspiration for vocabulary: ic3peak’s смерти больше нет 😅
Говорящим по русски будет легче с португальским. И наоборот. Из-за схожей фонетики. Но только с фонетикой! ; ))
