The first time I heard this tune, it immediately became my motto, my mission statement, my battle cry and my mantra.
Thank you. One of the great obscure rock and roll songs of all time. The first time I heard this song was in the early 70's. Never thought I'd ever see a video of iy. Very nice surprise
I saw John in 1974 at Toronto El Macombo. I kissed his cheek, as I just loved him and his music. I asked him to sing his famous Woogy Boogy. He was amazing 😅
The algorithm be good today 👍. 🎵🎶🎶🎵🎶
I first heard this (not this version) late one night on my Sony Clock RADIO..on CKLG FM, 4 naughtical miles from my House. I lived in Washington State, but Vancouver Island is in Canada. It was cool then and is still now. I miss those old FM stations, where the music was an adventure!
also grew up very near (san Juan isle) ,,, Seattle and that/your part of Canada were almost or among areas that were the first to have FM broadcast stations , vancover and seattle were large music scenes , i also heard him first on broadcast out of canada
I interviewed Long John in my hometown of Vancouver when he was rehearsing as Capt. Hook for the musical Peter Pan. (Playing the lead was the charming former Olympic gymnast Cathy Rigby. She was sweet & lovely.) Anyway, I just had to nudge John & he’d start on another tangent. One of the most entertaining afternoons I ever spent working.
I will mention my second close encounter with Long John. When I was young & beautiful, I accepted an invitation to a co-worker’s home for a couple of beers. This was my second night on the restaurant job & well past midnight by the time our shifts ended. Several others were going I heard & then one by one quietly dropped away - nobody told me. So here I am alone at this dude’s fancy apartment (paid for by his “uncle”). We’re having a beer & suddenly he’s shirtless & rapidly, noisily, sweatily lifting weights. I realized the music in the background was Baldry’s A Thrill’s a Thrill, followed immediately by Lou Reed’s Walk on the Wild Side. Before Mr. Muscles wasted anymore time on me, I made my excuses & ran out of the apartment crying & flapping my hands in terror.
Just kidding. I got along with the dude fine till his sudden departure a month later. But I had several of the staff laughing at me for having fallen for the guy’s clumsy pick-up routine. They could have given me a warning, but no, they needed the laughs.
Hi Jerry, thanks for sharing these stories! Great. Do you have a copy of the interview available at all? I’d love to read/hear it. Let me know and I’ll send you my E-mail address.
@@jerryeberts3726 also a Baldry fan, almost got him to commit to a gig in Prince George around ‘88, but fell through. Jerry, did you grad from Vancouver College long ago?
So funny - I thought - when this popped up - this is one of my favorites - how did I not see this? Then I realized it is only 5 days old. I’m so grateful for its existence. My world is suddenly better! 🎼🍎💋❤️🥃🍺🌿🎸
He has a funniest voice I can't stop laughing😂😂😂😂😂😂😄
Amazing algorithm I guess. I just listened to this John Baldry - It Ain't Easy LP, Album, Ter Warner Bros. Records WS 1921, 1971 US, this weekend after watching the Elton John farewell show. Recalled that they were associated. Very cool to get to see this for better sense of what a great performer he was. Merci beaucoup! ☮🐉👁
One of my favorite albums of all time. It ain’t easy to top that one.
Back in the 80s, I saw him do an acoustic show in a small theatre in a very small town. The place was packed. And it was like Blues 101. One of the best concerts I've ever seen.
I saw him in St Paul, Mn in 1971. Came out on the stage with a huge flag with a WB on it. Figure it out. The best show band I ever saw. He rocked the house.
Saw him in Detroit by accident he was not the act I went to see. But he stole the show. Loved him ever since as did Elton he took his name John
In September 1971 I went to a triple bill concert that featured
Al Cooper, the J Giels band, and the opening act was long John Baldry.
Wow I'm speechless seriously...they probably had to peel off the floor...
Baldry was always a genius, I would have loved to see him jam with Joe Jackson, but the real genius here is the piano player, of course. My radio station as a teen, KSAN San Francisco, played the hell out of Baldry.
Joe Ingrao was a fabulous piano player. Very sadly missed.
Thank you, I came to the comments to see who the piano player was. I love Long John Baldry☪♥☮ @@longjohnbaldryappreciationpage
Long John....the first to play them blues on the streets of Ye Olde London Towne.....
John used to compare the american folk blues festival in the U.K. in the sixties as well as singing a song or two. Remember it well.
There was some amazing footage of Howlin’ Wolf from the AFBF in the UK. I think Reelin’ in the Years put it out.
We drove from Norman OK to Wichita KS in the winter of 71-72 to see Fleetwood Mac, John Baldry and someone else but Long John missed the concert cause he got busted for pot at an airport on the way. At least that's the way I remember it. One of us had his album and played the heck out of it in the dorm.
Savoy Brown was the other group. Some of that tour has been uploaded to the page over the last few days. Not great quality but amazing music. You can finally catch up with what you missed in 72.
I was 14 years old. 1971 It was my first of many concerts, Fleetwood Mac ( before Stevie and Lindsay ), Long John Baldry, and Savoy Brown...at Larkin High School elgin, I'll they all Rocked the house.
I first heard him on WNEW FM a great rock station out of NYC . I looked into him and found out how big he was in the UK and how many artists he gave their start. Been a fan ever since
Another great 60's Brit artist that never was recognized in America! ❤
He was a regular on FM radio and very popular here in Montreal back in the early 70’s.
Enjoying this gem with my morning Joe, it's gonna be a good day. Saw John in Port Hardy, B.C. 88 or 9 or something, despite being quite drunk he put on a pretty good show.
Fantastic!
Great to see Kathi , I had the honor of playing bass with her 20 years ago around Seattle area RIP my dear
Kathi was incredible!
WOW,so sorry for your loss...
And such a blessing for you✌️💖😇🌟
I spent time with em, and still close to bassist Tom knowles.. john had extreme charisma- easy to love, respect and play Hard for. Long live long john baldry. mondo
what a pleasant surprise. haven't thought about this song in decades. nice to hear it again. thanks for the video
pretty good.... props to the piano player!
Long John Baldry: a Sweet GENIOUS!
Wow! What a great act! Very clever and different! I would love to see them in person but I guess I missed them by about 48 years!
Way ahead of his time
This is the same gentleman that Ian Paice described as "not a ladies' man?"
He was openly gay. Not that there's anything wrong with that
Long John Baldry was openly gay at a time when it really wasn't all that safe and accepted as it today. The man was a great singer and a better human being.
interesting to know considering how extra-macho some of his lyrics are?
Says more about Ian Paice than it does about Long John…
@@davidburne9477 Very true, as an apt description does give eloquent testimony to the state of one's descriptive ability.
Thanks for this> I was able to see him in Lincoln Nebraska back in the 70's!
❤brillant man
That piano IS some boojie woojie
Awesome
Never heard of then until now - thanks great stuff
I mean: Long John Baldry, a complete GENIUS, without any error... Kkkk
fun to hear what the intro story had evolved to @ this point in time
Yes indeed
This is great! Brings back great memories of live music in London in the early 60s especially Wardour Street. All the young, who became famous, hung out at the Flamingo. Even Little Stevie Wonder, aged 12, got on stage and played Finger Tips.

LJB, not to be confused with that other guy, a True Classic!
Somebody swiped my Long John Baldry album long about 1977, back in the days when I really was known as Doc Ersatz to one and all
Thanks for this! So jealous of those that got to see him perform. Just brilliant. Third Stone From the Sun an unexpected bonus!!!
Long time in waiting to see this act, great and thanks 🎶
1:56 you you hear the signature Robotnik trrrrrrril
i was 12!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Best version of this song was by crow
Crow? I’ll have to see if I can find that cover.
Elton John took his last name 'John' after Long John. I think they were bandmates very early in their careers.
I hate that hedgehog
