To come back to the UK without BRP card will be a pain in the ass. Some air companies don’t allow you to buy a one way ticket without proof of residence.
As far as I understand, the uniform visa sticker is a good idea, incorporating additional safety features to prevent forgery. Ireland and the United Kingdom are not subject to the application of the new measures, which came into force on 17 August 2017. However, adopting the same standards will make it much easier to move across the Schengen area.
The potential problem of this would be recognising digital immigration status elsewhere in the world. If a UK resident were to travel in any "developing" country whose infrastructure is not at par with the UK digital proof is going to be controversial. A lot of immigration officers would still rather see a physical proof of your link to the UK for them to let you leave or transit through their countries. Of course the Home Office won't be concerned with that. They'd be hands off whilst giving residents a bigger burden to evidence ties to the UK.

After 2024 expired date, you can request Home office for one time pass code. And your employer can check your most updated ( real ) validate date by checking their website. You can get the website url after you have updated your Biometric Residential permit into new one.

Forget traveling. It already happens now with EU settlement scheme. The amount of time I had to argue I don't have a residence permit and it's digitally available and the mortgage lender or some workplace also would not accept that cause HR not aware is nonsense. Leave the immigration officers, traveling airlines will tell you do not have a valid visa. I traveled to a South American country after getting email note in Spanish from embassy that I do not require visa. Airline staff at desk initially rejected telling she cannot take that letter and her process won’t allow. After ridiculous efforts made my travel possible. We can expect more pain whenever process gets changed without fully evaluating repercussions
