To be honest I don't stress about anything. I am 72 and have no fear of getting older. No fear of dying. I live on my own and have no fear of dying on my own. I don't want to live forever. I don't want to live beyond not being able to look after myself or enjoying life. What's would be the point ? We all need a rest from life and death is the best rest you can have, before we start all over again. I don't wish for death. I just accept it as part of the circle of our existence.

I have been dirt poor, lived on the street, suffered severe depression, lost two wives to cancer, and yet I am optimistic.
I am 72, live on my own overseas away from my family, life is a journey..and most of the time, it is up to you, how that journey goes. No one knows what is over the next hill, but worry about what might be. They worry about things that may never happen, and usually they don't.
Life is an adventure and like all adventures, never go as one plans. There are ups and downs along the way. Its how you deal with those ups and downs, that decide how your life goes. You know the old saying..I will cross that bridge when I get to it ? That is the way to think. You can't plan for the unexpected..and life is full of those. Moment by moment, is what life is, not a day, week, month or year from now. Only now is real. The rest is an illusion.

Yes, I agree with that. I only started fearing and worrying about aging and death after retiring in 2020 at age 62. As you say, the fear and worry will accomplish nothing. The fear and worry only makes everything worse. So, I'm really meditating about acceptance of aging and death. I can't control the unexpected. Best wishes to you.

I’m nearly 62, just a small woman with grey hair. I didn’t want to stack the half ton of logs into the woodshed, outside in the cold, so I just went ahead and did the job anyway. It was easy, even therapeutic, no aches in particular. When the day comes that I can’t stack the logs, that will be another story.

Thank you for sharing this. When we are young we are always planning for the time of old and not being able to work and earn an income. So we start saving(actually I agree with this) and do all kinds of investments to create that sense of security. But nothing can insure us 100% except 100% trust of life.

If my mind suggests the possibility of terrible things happening in the future, my go to response is "I've no idea" and equally if my mind suggests fantastic things happening in the future, my go to response is "I've no idea"., because it's the truth. I don't have any idea about what will or won't happen in the future, and thankfully neither has my mind 👍 it just pretends to know the unknowable. The future hasn't happened yet and my mind has absolutely no more knowledge of it than I do, and nether does anyone else or their minds either 👍👍👍
      My motto is!
      Accept what is
      Trust what will be
And be very grateful for everything
This is the best way I know to have a happy peaceful relationship with my mind, because the simple act of trusting removes all the need to think about anything too much.

Now I'm 73 and retired, ready to have adventures. I'm fairly healthy but after these past 2 yrs of pandemic I am struggling from inactivity, as are many people. These are not ordinary times. I even get to enjoy this technology with which I can reach out to others around the world and learn and grow. I'm still here and breathing life giving oxygen into my lungs with which I'm thankful for. I experienced many moments of kindness, wonderful music, and entertainment in my life.

@@mitch5222 - Yes, we can't deny the darkness and bad things we see and experience here. And we all will die. But while we're alive here, it's our time to make the most and the best of it we can. The goal isn't to try and be positive all the time while in denial of the wrong things in the world however. Just start with adding in maybe just 5 minutes per day where you make it a point to think and dwell on the many good things you've had in life. Watch something on youtube that will make you smile for a few minutes each day. etc.....
And when the negative thoughts come in, which they will, just try to pay attention to it without getting pulled into identifying with those thoughts, almost as if those thoughts are separate from you and you are simply observing them. This way they lose power over you.
Then gradually try to shift away from those things that bring you down. Key is don't get frustrated, it's like learning to ride a bike, you can't quit just because you fall a few times.
There will always be negative things going on though, and we will all get pulled into them too much at times. It's being human. For now just focus on bringing some balance between the light and dark in.

Why aren't we afraid of being born and continuing to grow, live? That's what makes getting old and dying happen, after all. This body is only a congregation of conditions, its seeds of decay as essential as those of growth. How can we even breathe in without breathing out? How do new things and people appear without old ones disappearing? Imagine a planet where everything remained static and nothing left!
We've already jumped into the deep end of the pool. It doesn't really make sense to thrash about in panic. Just swim as best you can and don't fight when it's time to take the last breath. The whole experience is far more enjoyable that way.
Remember the old Ch'an master who said "500 years as a fox is a life of grace"? Whatever the waves, the ups and downs, it is all supremely precious.

When human body ends, no more human experience or fear…feeling fear is natural as we are alive..perhaps celebrate how alive we are even through the fears, because when the party ends, even fears will be missed since the only thing left to feel is love, I’m sure that’ll get old too, imagine feeling love all the time without the body, wouldn’t you miss some humans experience even if they come with the price of fears?
It’s not all that bad once we embrace their existence, fears just want to be recognized or respected as built in self protective mechanism to survive…
