Well this was a fun video to edit as everything went off the rails. Although we do wish we could fix every bike, this one just doesn't make sense for us to devote time and resources to given the current backlog. At least it was saved from scrap and could be used by someone else!
As an observation, of all the Honda models I have worked on over the years, that particular model CB 750 suffered from ignition problems; I have a very original 1980 CB 750 FA and most of the bad running has centred around the ignition. Apparently a neat trick is that Yamaha 600 Diversion carbs go straight on.
I don't think problem is as much about carb as it is on the charging side, the rotor is engineered very poorly, and once is old and gone..well, bike as good as a paper holder
@@craigdekarske6669I’ve never tried it, but I think the problem is not the “rotor” in itself but the way the system works. Basically what happens is that when the rotor spins fails to deliver a sufficient 14.4 volts @ 3000rpm due to increased temperature inside of the encasing (which raises the material resistance and therefore lessens the volts to the regulator rectifier) the cb750 four instead (the k models in the 70’s) had a nearly bulletproof charging system ‘cause they didn’t rely on a electrically excited system (like the one with brushes) and so this problem didn’t exist, other problems I had on those bikes was the cam chain tensioner (always stupidly loose) and a drive tach gasket that never worked properly.
@@BrickHouseBuildsI bet it's the spark advance unit that is rusty or has a bad spring. I just went through this on a 1980 cb650c. Ran just like yours at the beginning. Had good spark and ran okay at idle but added throttle it would just sputter out and backfire. Eventually figured it out and now it runs like it should. Mine even has a dead cylinder too. Check that spark advance unit!
When I seen you go to pick up the exhaust I was yelling "NOOO!". Last time part of my exhaust fell off, I went back to pick it up and burnt my fingers.
I used to dispatch/courier in London on one of those in 1990. All I did was change the oil and filters. I had the cam chain replaced and the bike shop stripped out one of the cylinder barrel bolts and blamed me for over tightening it myself. I hadn’t touched it! Anyway, this meant that my left boot was very waterproof! Over time, it didn’t like the lack of maintenance! Looked nice though.
@BrickHouseBuilds You worry too much! Your content and the way it's delivered is fantastic in its diversity - one of the things that makes your channel so watchable, and your chemistry working together is a joy to behold.
I got an 83 cb1100f. I cut out the crossover pipe on the headers and got a set of nonbaffled shorty gp slip ons. It was about 100 bucks to modify mine but I have no issues with it and sets alarms off in my neighborhood. I did have to rejet the carbs. I got a short video of it on my channel..
I like these fun laid back experiment type videos. Little sad to hear that bikes goin away though, would be a fun one to Mad Max it out. I understand the too many projects tho. This month I'm finally getting to my 83 GS1100ES after it being shelved for 6 years lol. Hoping to ride it down to one of your bike nights next year. Keep up the good work, love the channel. 👍
@ you guys inspired me. I’m from the Philippines and we just recently opened a small garage! We are newbies and learning with the help of your videos! You guys are just awesome! 👏
The pipes you built sounds great🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼 sebring 2.0 😅 …I have an cb900f and rebuild the engine because of the problems with timing chain / tensioner …but I got great parts-upgrade from “vince & hyde” that will change everything. They build great upgrades for these engines also for 900/1100 versions what makes these engines near unbreakable🙌🏼🏍️💨💨💨
Oh my. My my my. I'll tell ya. ~Got no idea what I'm saying. I keep wanting to share about my three motorcycles. Sorry about that. Anyway. All the videos you've got about the Bandit ~Gold~. This video. ~a little gold here~ Just not sure what to say. I could just hit the road here in New Hampshire with my 95' 750 nighthawk. So clean. Then try to convince you to take $1000 off of your Bandit 1200 and bring that bike back here for the Springtime. You'd have the Nighthawk. (my West Virginia 🥺). Or maybe I could fit my Bandit 1200 and my Bandit 650 and bring those two over for a trade. ERRR that would be for your Bandit 1200. Well well well. Time will tell. Now setting up a heated space for West Virginia for a go at the carburetors. What a conundrum. ♥. Maybe you've sold the Bandit? If so congratulations. All good here. So much fun.
I bought a greatest hits album of primus songs long time ago, It’s called They Can’t All be Zingers. And I think that fits this bike as well. Of all the BHB greatest hits, this just is just a B-Side. It’s best to send it on its way and let someone else build it or use parts off it.
Hi guys, these bikes are tuned with exhaust, airbox, and jetting. Ignore one or get one off, it just won't have enough power. Example, too much air flow through the airbox or exhaust it just won't have full power. First do jetting, second fine tune air fuel ratio with airbox, third fine tune power with exhaust outlet diameter. If all is correct it will pin the tach easily. Lots of work but worth it.
Nothing against putting more exhaust on it...but you also could have put bigger main jets in it. Without the restriction, it wasn't getting enough fuel for the amount of air going in. I probably wouldn't have gone with mufflers but jetting for the open headers would have worked as well
Good while it lasted lads sounded good with those pipes until Seth blew them off hahaha ,yeah it’s had its day time to let it go take care guys and all the very best
Ok so, in that order of ideas I have the same bike with a exhaust system cut the same way as the bike on your video when i got her, I installed a murrays carbs set on it and she is running but she is lossing power when I get to mid range throttle, if what I got from this video is right, in theory if I find and install stock exhaust pipes will solve the issue?
Do not take this video as real science. We had a bike that barely runs with a dead cylinder. It is not a good representation of another bike in better shape
Sorry it didnt work out. Too much wrong with it. I almost bought a 750F but when I saw it in person it had too many issues for me to work on. It wouldnt have been bad for you guys but oh well. Thanks for your video!

Yeah the ignition system is solid. Charging system sucks
@daniloscarci8114 a neat trick is fitting a yamaha xj rotor. Same taper and size but built beefier

Content is content, and Honda CB/F 750 content is always worth watching, esp with you two, witty guys at the helm! Fun video, fellas! A+++++
Glad you enjoyed!

Joke around here was "clang, clang, clang" as I lost a muffler on a test run of a 79 Wing I was resuscitating.

I was all set to offer some sage advice about the transmission, then the compression test made it a moot point. 😂

You guys have a history of blowing pipes off… rocking too hard
🤣
You got a nice collection of old bikes I have a few myself I fix all of my bikes keep up the good work

I had a kerker four into one exhaust. Great sound and power
Nothing beats that

Great fun - good job those exhausts weren't hot ! Hilarious - quite a nice sound though and thats the most important thing of all !
I did wonder how long before it spat those exhausts off, turns out that's the least of your problems with the CBF, fun while it lasted.
It made for a good time while it lasted
Sounds like the 650 I picked up, if it works great, if not, no big deal... I may start my own channel with it and my Sporty!

cut it up and make an old-school CB750 chopper like you used to see back in the day.

Your carbs are mechanical where this bike is relying on vacuum. Your carbs don't care as much about the exhaust

Just random fun
My CB750 is cold blooded - needs to be warmed up. All CB750’s are cold blooded. Belongs in the junkyard.
Yeah all my carbureted bikes need to be warmed up
Definitely does not belong in the junkyard. Maybe I just believe in recycling though.🤷🏻♂️
If the tranny wasn't trash, and had a decent 4 into 1 system....maybe? But this one was rode hard and put away wet!
Definitely in a junkyard for a reason lol
That pipe is definitely round, not a square… lol I am so punny
Petrol hanging from the bars. Battery balanced on the frame, no front brake, exhaust that attack tailgaters. Whats not to like. 😂😂😂

Is it me or is that bike running on like 2 cylinders most of the time?
1100F is better in every way? Isn't it largely the same bike?
@Megakoolguy357 I don't think any parts are the same. Lots of differences between them
It's a turd.
Flush it, do the paperwork, and wash your hands...

Why do I watch this? Maybe the UA-cam will help you get parts to rebuild!
Well with the current projects we explained this bike isn't a top priority
Too loud…… gives the rest of us a bad name
Not as loud as every harley or sport bike but still too loud. It's not like we actually rode this on the road for more than 10 minutes
