I thought the Borealis won as well! 🤣 The Cuda is the better looking watch but I do wonder how legible it is in normal daylight. Those hands against the white dial aren’t clear.
I'm glad that the question was asked once again. Maybe manufacturers will eventually catch on and not skimp on the lume! A very satisfying Lume Wars again!
The lume in this video is a prototype version, for some reason the BGW9 appeared weaker than C3 (both same amount applied) will be improving in final production.
Great to have it back! Amazing Cuda. Just a thought.....should lume dials and lumed indices be in the same category? Isn't it a bit like comparing apples and oranges?
To my eyes the hands on the Borealis are clearer at the end than the Signum (I have a non-full lume Signum, but no Borealis, least people think I'm a Borealis fanboy :) )
I think you should do another one with watches that has lume only on hands and indices. I think that's the more common type of watch most people buy. Lumed dial watches are very rare and people sometime even hate them.
Watching these Lume Wars episodes got me hooked on full dial lume, didn't know that was a thing before! And since I'm still a child at heart, I love things that glow in the dark anyways. My Orient Ray II has great lume on the hands and indexes, but I needed more, so I picked up a Zelos Mako 3 Ti Frost with the fully lumed dial, lumed bezel and useless, but awesome, lumed crown, love it!

I had two Seikos upgraded with better handsets almost exclusively for the lume (full BGW9, sword style) and while they're very, very solid the Steeldive is simply insane. Got one a few months ago and it instantly became my daily watch for basically everything that doesn't require some modicum of discretion. Comfortable, keeping nearly COSC (mine is +/- 7s/d, beat error 0.1-0.2), and that's even after throwing it through literally every ride Disney World and Disneyland had to toss at it. Came out smiling. For a cup of coffee over a hundred shipped, who can ask for anything more?
Been holding off forever to pull the trigger on the Cuda. Not anymore lol . Love that lumed dial. Also own a Straton Curve. Kyle does great bang for Buck watches
That Cuda is easier to read at night than at daylight , great episode. I was rooting for the underdog ( Steeldive ) but they seem to have trouble keeping the QC on point.
I have the orange Cuda and love the lume, but find there is a wash-out effect towards the end of the night: with both dial and hands glowing it's harder to resolve than a lumed hands only dial. All beauties in this vid!
i'm kind of surprised you didn't use a signum cuda titanium GMT for this... from my own experience... my black steeldive has ALL the lume it's almost neck in neck with my "regular" signum cuda. the GMT signum i have has PURPLE lume on the dial which looks cool but it's not as bright as the white lume on the "regular" signum. my devil diver keeps up with steeldive for about the first hour. my seiko prospex special edition chronograph gets honorable mention. thanks jody!
I bought the Signum Lume GMT based on your review. Loving it so far! Keep this series going, I appreciate this because it helps in buying decisions. Not enough channels go indepth into lume performance.
Those Chinese watches offer so much value. I am tempted to buy one. San Martin makes so many tempting models. My daily watch is a Hamilton PSR.... and I really wish Jody would review the PSR. It's such a surprising and awesome watch. I love wearing it.
I think the ISL-58 from Long Island Watches can take the title. Full lume Monster homage with blacked out hands & markers. I'll even send mine from Colorado and size it for ya Jody.
Love the borealis execution! I almost ordered a Ball M Challenger the tubes are out of this world but the price while not out of this world, let's say it's steep for lume action. Glad I have a wife to keep me in check sometimes 🥰
Jody, you are correct about the Steeldive, my black one is opposite to yours. The hands outlast the rest by some margin. Not to much of a moan though, I love the watch.
Jodi, I have a JDM Full lume seiko SNK field watch that glows like a flashlight and lasts all night. I always wonder how it would fair in these lume wars. Would be happy to lend it to you for the next one, just seems like you try to use watches that are more accessible.
Interesting to see. There was one time when I wanted a watch for night cycling on unlit roads and bought a Seiko 5 diver, soon after I bought a Carnival automatic for the red bezel, it turned out that the Carnival had better lume, so I sold the Seiko.
Thanks Jody - wondering if you’ve ever been able to get your hands on a prospex LX - the LX is short for ‘Lux’. My SNR043 squashes all my other Japanese and Swiss watches . It’s a pricey one but I believe it’d beat almost anything.

Recently bought an IXDAO & Ipose 5303, and the lume is fantastic. Apparently 50 layers of C3. In defense of Tudor, the lume on my BB36 lasts the entire night
Hey Jody! If you don't want to do these - if you don't like them or they're too much work or something - then obviously don't. But if the reason is you think we don't like them, or that the reason to do them is to try to find the absolute best, then I think that's not quite true! First of all, the simple question: What if you don't want to buy a Signum Cuda? Surely that doesn't mean you don't care about lume at all. We still want to compare different lumes even if we're not looking for the ultimate best out there. I also believe that watch channels talking about lume is a factor in getting brands to make better lume. And of all the lume content out here, your Lume Wars series is the best. I really, sincerely hope you will make more - but if you don't want to, that's okay too
I have that exact Borealis and that exact Signum (and own multiples of each brand) so it's not that I don't have a horse in this race, actually have two. Granted, all screens are slightly different, but it's not totally clear to me that the signal won this round (though in real life, that Cuda looks brighter to me). Anyway, congratulations to Kyle and to Carlos for a couple of terrific full lume watches.
Ya it may be time to "promote" the Cuda to the Hall of Fame. 👍🏼 Another great episode! Love me some Lume Wars! 👊🏼 I actually could use some input from fellow lume lovers. I'm looking for a Lume monster but one of a different variety. I would like a field watch and preferably not an auto. There are a couple other "likes" I would like the have but aren't necessarily a deal breaker and I'd like to stay under $300. Thanks for any help and keep up the great work Jody. 👍🏼 ~ JJ
I comment every single time the end of lume wars is mentioned however briefly and I'm going to comment again. Please keep lume wars going. Jody, I think reducing the perceived usefulness of this series down to just which one watch has the brightest glow in the dark paint is terribly shortsighted. The real value of this series is getting to see all the watches with good luminous paint next to each other as a comparison. It really helps me fix a picture in my mind of which ones are the best and which ones of the worst. Yes competing for the title is fun, but it's not why I keep watching these. Again, if you're tired of the cuda winning every time, do you like the car magazines do, only use watches from the past year. That will keep it fresh and relevant. I am really glad to see this video series back. There's nothing else like it on UA-cam.
Yay, love a lume wars episode! Contraversy, I'm sure the Borealis won that final, although Mr biased here as I've bought the same model! Only 1 way to find out, annoy the bette half and buy a signum!! 😂
Love the lume wars but I still can’t get onboard with the full lume dial. Too distracting when all you really need are bright hands and possibly the indices. I think a permanent flashlight on your wrist would be a faux pas in most dark situations.
Was that your homage of a Star Wars theme? Jodi that's about as good a quality as an Ali Express clomage haha. Love the lume comparison. Nice watches. BGW9 is so awesome on the San Martin and the Borealis. Great comparisons.
Good video, but I hope for the next lume wars you can separate lume dials from lume hands. It's just apples and oranges in terms of design. If you don't want a white dial watch, then the hands are the important thing.
I'm going to make a very wild suggestion (and an almost impossible one). For the next lume wars try to get an A. Lange & Söhne Lumen and see how it compares
I would love to see a spreadsheet or something like a leaderboard where all current and previous Lumewars contenders are listed, complete with pricing.
That Cuda is impressive! However, you almost have to turn out the lights to actually read it. Those white hands and white dial don’t seem that legible in regular lighting.

Seeing the inconsistency with the Steeldive lume makes me happy that I didnt buy one. It was very tempting but I instead paid a bit extra and got the Kamasu which is very strong.
The screen on my phone must be different than most. It looked as though the Borealis was much brighter than the other watch by a lot. Sorry Jody but I think the fix was in on this one. Lol
I personally thought the Borealis looked better as well, but in general, is it actually a "lume" coating or a disk of glow in the dark material? In either case, it's hardly a fair comparison! Sort of apples and oranges at best. Additionally, I found over the years that lume brightness and duration are massively affected by the conditions it's exposed to in the day(s) prior. If I've been wearing a watch all day or two days in bright sunlight, the lume will charge quickly, glow brighter, and last longer than if you just throw a torch on it for a few minutes after you've taken it out of the box. I have a previous version of the Signum, and the dial does pop in the dark, but in the daylight? It's nothing to write home about. 😢
I thought the Borealis won as well! 🤣 The Cuda is the better looking watch but I do wonder how legible it is in normal daylight. Those hands against the white dial aren’t clear.
