Marc's 'Blue Horse I' has long been one of my favorite paintings, created by one of my favorite artists. His paintings' transition of expression, due to the social/political situation in Europe at the time, is remarkable. Thank you!
I remember we had a school assignment back in the day, to try and replicate great piece of art in other medium than in was originally greated. I used pastel chalks, and replicated Fraz Marc's the Large Blue Horses. I didn't know a thing about him, I just found a picture of the painting in one of the resources we had, and could not stop looking at it, so from all the options, I chose it. It was so simple, but somehow I was just totally mesmerized by it, and I still can't quite tell why. It jjust simply is.
Same, that painting just captured me at one point, a long time ago. In 2009. I replicated it for myself while being a student, and had it hanging on my wall. Was never lucky enough to see it in person, but was able to see other Marc's works in Munich.
This gave me chills. Franz Marc has been an artist I’ve admired for years, and his work continues to influence my own art. Thank you for such an insightful video.
I watched this video the 5th time and I have to say that it‘s really professionell. I can not believe how many small youtubers out there make videos like these. Pure quality💎 (I am going to hold a presentation tomorrow in art class about der Blaue Reiter, this video helped me a lot)
I love Franz Marc's work! To me, he is the greatest horse artist to date! The Tower is probably my favorite of his works.......thank you for making this great, perceptive video!
@@Shawn.Grenier haha , thanks i have a question i saw you said the german army was called back artists including franz marc , why were they doing that even though franz among others were considered degenerate
Good question! Franz and others were considered degenerate during WWII by the Nazis. In WWI however, Franz wasn't labelled degenerate by the government as Germany wasn't Nazi yet. The Nazis, being obviously very militaristic, had a lot of respect for WWI soldiers (especially those who died during the war). Franz Marc was one of those sacrifices, so the Nazis went back on their decision of humiliating him.
Do you by any chance have articles or journals that you may have cited in this video? I'd be interested in further readings about Marc's artistic journey. I'm most curious about the direct quotes.
Thank you for the analysis. The paintings in the Blue Horses series look very intetesting and besutiful, and the next ones are very shocking. A shame he died so young, specially for a st***ip war.
The German Army actually called back Franz Marc and many other artists to prevent them from fighting and eventually dying. Unfortunately, the orders to bring Marc back to Germany came in too late. It's a shame that so many artists die young. Thank you for appreciating the video!
due to a series of volcanic eruptions in the period 1883 - 1920, the late 1800s and the early 1900s had fire-red sunrises and sunsets only rarely were the skies deep blue at dawn or just after sunset, and just in this period, many painters had a fascination with the color blue when the fire-red skies at sunrise and sunset slowly dissipated after the 1920s so also slowly did the fascination with the color blue disappear in painters circles. also, many of the sunrises/sunsets painted at the time were fire-red but that goes without saying.
Blue is male because males are romantic, living in blue clouds not in reality of things, escaping gray competition they need to struggle everyday Blue is also a dead rotting corpse, hyperoxididified blood, person in hypertension, hyperventilation, hyperscared. Blue is cold - coolness seeked by the tired, inflamed, burnt, cut, wounded, sour. Yellow is female because it's practical, sneaky, jealous, always calculating, looking for safety in order and best bet, treacherous, disloyal, unstable, not innocent as green and not giving sweetness of red mature things Yellow is also one of dangerous, scaring colours. colour of yellow hot iron. But also colour of sun, blinding all where it's rays fall. Yellow is sought by the unsure, wavy, immature, lost, lonely and uncareful, weak. blue and yellow were colours of German romantic period Red are mature things, in their prime, the full energy state, radiating, nearly burning, living, expanding, independent, impressing. Red is the rape fruit. It's the moment of readiness. it's the essence calling - but short before getting spoiled, over sweetness, over development when it becomes brown, white, green, gray, black - colours of rot. colours have meanings but nothing is of only one and all these are placed in a cycle, one can't exist without others because they change one into other in time in order
As someone who watches Baumgaterner restoration, I really appreciate the man who restored the painting like that.

To my database of "greatest paintings" I added Foxes.

What would he have created if he had survived the war I wonder. I don’t think anyone had mixed nature and abstraction like he did in his last works.
I searched all over the internet and could not find anywhere to download the battlefront sketchbook showed at the beginning of this video
Contact the Munich Germany museum where many works of Der Blaue Reiter are exhibited.Lenbachhaus.They would know.
Was that title of Marianne von Werefkin's piece supposed to be "Slef- Portrait" or was there a typo?
💯👌
lol my teacher told me to watch this
Why would you focus on an ugly painting about war when he painted so many beautiful animals. Ridiculous.

We still do book burnings, we call it cancel culture.
