An example use case for VCAs is drum group compression. If you send all your drum channels to a post-fade mix bus and insert a compressor on that bus, and then also assign those drum channels to a VCA. Because a VCA is essentially the ability to move a group of channel faders together with one fader, you can ride the VCA fader to push more or less signal into that compressor to make the drums more or less aggressive during the bands set. The Chillipepper's engineer does this exact thing for different songs throughout the show, super cool.

    Good day sir,
    I have a question,
When I use an analogue mixer, the master fader level meter reaches almost at around -3db , in the yellow range,
But since I started using the Si impact, it only reaches the 3rd fader - 24 dB from buttom

this video was super helpful so thanks alot. im super new to the sound engineer game and id like to know how you separate your house speakers from monitor speaker using the SI impact?

Run your house speakers through the main left and right outputs. I think its Mix 15 and 16 on the SI Impact. Run your monitor speakers through another output on the board (example, mix 1). If you want to turn up the volume in your monitor, you select mix one on your board and your faders now become volume controls for that specific mix which is your monitor.

You can route the computer that has your tracks back in to the Soundboard, just stop the record button on the computer.

What is a VCA group. What is it's purpose? Also, what are ST groups? What are their purpose? please someone answer these. We have an Si Impact Console and it's not making sense reading the manual.

A VCA (voltage controlled amplifier) or in other consoles called DCA (digital controlled amplifier) are offsets to the channel faders. So if your VCA is at -6dB all channel faders controlled by this VCA have an offset of -6dB to their own value. It's a way to simple change the value of the faders but not effecting the signal itself, so you don't have a signal at a VCA.
A mix bus, in other consoles often called group or aux, will get the signals of all assigned channels and will work at these. So you can add compressors, eqs and other needed things to an mix bus. You can route an mix bus to a connector, so you can use it as a stage monitor (as aux in other consoles). To do these you should send the signals pre fade as the faders will not effect the stage monitoring. Or you can route them to LR or LCR (main), deactivate the routing to main within the assigned channels, using the channels post fade, so all the post fade signals of a channel will not go to main. Instead it will go to your mix, where you can work at the sum of the channel signals, and then go through the mix fader to main. This is classic sibgroup behavior. With a mono mix all assignments to left ore right will get lost, with a stereo you can assign this.

.. it's actually Voltage Controlled Attenuator (not amplifier) - but essentially the same idea. Lots of people call it the other.

Araldo Newman Jr , without being technical vac is another name for sub groups, basically. Example is; you can put all the drum channels onto one slider so like if all the drums are too loud or quiet, you can use that one slider to pull them all up or down together. Same as all vocals, all guitars etc. it’s like putting a master volume on different sections of the mix.
      Hope this helps.....

Dope video on VCA. I would like to know how to send my monitor mix to a VCA, if that's possible.

I am sorry, but I don't think that is possible. I could be wrong tho.

Her is what I found on the net.
In a large-format analogue mixer, a VCA, or Voltage Controlled Amplifier, is a channel gain control that can be adjusted by varying a DC voltage on the control input. This makes it possible to 'move' a raft of faders together, maintaining any offsets within them, by moving a single control fader.
