- New Delhi: In the third part of our series, Eastern Front Airpower, Air Marshal D.K.Patnaik(Retd), Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Air Command (EAC) from October 2021 to September 2022, assesses the challenges and capabilities of the EAC. In this interview with StratNews Global Associate Editor, Amitabh P. Revi, Air Marshal Patnaik explains the vast area the EAC deals with, including five countries' borders(especially the Chinese occupied Tibet LAC in Arunachal Pradesh and the critical 'Chicken's Neck' in West Bengal), the changes in assets over the decades, the challenges in the area's altitude, weather, topography and terrain, the advantages the Indian Air Force has over China's PLAAF because Indian bases are at near sea level, while the adversary has high altitude airfields, air defences including the S-400 missile system, dealing with PLAAF manned and unmanned aircraft near the LAC, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance(ISR) technologies, drones and hypersonic glide technologies, the impact the MQ-9B drones, GE engines, Safran helicopter engines will have if and when the deals fructify, and India's capabilities of reach from the Sunda Strait to the Persian Gulf.

Air Marshal Patnaik ji...thank you for your service towards the defense of our country! 🙏 🇮🇳
One of the best transparent information podcast
👍🏾🙏🏾 @Killman7
During Second World War Allied Powers ( USA and Britain ) developed excellent Air bases in the North East ( like Tezpur , Jorhat etc). From these bases Allies` Long Range Bombers would cross the Himalayas and bomb Japanese positions in China.
Unfortunately, many of these air bases were closed down by Nehru after Independence
Waiting….
Fabulous interview! Great work!
What's the roadmap for AWACS, Refuelling Tankers and Heavy transport? Severe deficit in all these categories.
Good evening sir, How will Tejas and Rafale play their contribution to our system and any other aircraft contributions to our force
@amitabhrevi Where Did You Get that Awesome 👌 Jacket Man..!? request Input Please.. 🙏
PLAAF could launch twice the number of combat jets backed up by air refuelers plus AWACS , ECCM + Jamming. And ifcourse, their satellites will track our jets feeding info to SAM sites and MANPADs groups. Haven't we at all considered this not withstanding ALCMs from those bombers from Hotan ?
If they do that then we have a target rich environment to deal with. The Tibetan plateau is like a table top with no where to hide. It is easier for us to target their infrastructure than it is the other way due to mountains on our side 😊
Why are we not focusing on procurement of Awacs rather more and more fighters.Fighters no doubt are urgently required but Awacs being force multipliers ,should not that be our immediate priority.
C295 are on their way to be converted into awacs variant. Netra is too on its way.But yes we need more awacs and refullers
How Pakistan Air Force busted the cockpits of your SU30 and Mirages on 27/2, are you turning a blind eye to radar jamming that worked superbly that day ! !
The Americans are reluctant to sell us AWACS, we are using Israeli equipment mounted on IL76s. Not sure how good these are. We are substantially deficient in the optimum required number of fighter squadrons. And we have two Aircraft Carriers with very few Fighter Aircrafts. The lack of a well developed Military Industrial complex hinders our ability to fight a sustained war. The DRDO is a perpetual work in progress.
@@basusri1120 then, with due respects, Indian military experts can only talk about threats from China/Pakistan on paper to excite general public. no country in todays modern day war can enter into a military conflict with out proper air cover. Your two A/Carriers would be prime targets for any air force in future conflicts...times have changed since 1971 !!
@@SajidKhan-mf8tsyes time have changed.....if you start a full scale war against India again then you will be history
All capabilities should be thoroughly reassessed in view of the Chinese dam on the Yarlung Tsangpo, the possibility of exacerbation of floods due to such a hydraulic structure, the fallout on military and humanitarian operations, as well as to agriculture and industry subsequent to such an action. The Chinese are emulating us and the Turks by engineering a new river regime for a major river, thus imposing costs and constraints to counter our recently enhanced miltary capabilities.
Hows are capabilities to dominate China in Tibet and go on offensive in mainland China
🙏🏼
DK Sahab pahli bar China ka man mein Dar paida hua hai vah Ladakh sactor mein kafi taiyariyan kar raha hai .
Mein samajhta hun aapki Air force ne Puri taiyari kar rakhi hai agar is bar China ke taraf se kuch v hua to Bharat ka takat aksai chin hoga.
IAF Ladakh mein offensive hoga per chicken nack aur Tawang ko Puri tarah different karega .
Is bar paharo ke saath saath samundar mein v China ko sabak sikhayenge. Jay Hind
though recently upgraded in 2016 - 2018, the Indian Air Force should retire it's aging fleet of MIG-29UPG multi role air dominance fighter asap . . . the lack of it, can be fulfilled with an additional fleet of 58 - 63 brand new Dassault Rafale EH (F4-R) multi role interdictor strike fighter . . . besides the indigenous Tejas Mk1A light multi role all weather fighter, that are being gradually delivered to the Indian Air Force since 2021 . . .
and where you are going find pilots for these birds....IAF has a serious shortage of pilot-aircraft ratio as most of your pilots now prefer lucrative jobs in commercial air lines. do some home work !!
Aerospace asset to be as fixed wing and rotary should have 6000
India is struggling to the brink of death.😱😱😱
We r far behind in terms of technology and numbers of systems
Highly incapable force with incompetent government = disastrous.
hahah even Nepal, Bhuttan and Mayanmar posed threat to india....wow !!
