Kim, Would you consider doing a tutorial or a series of tutorials on these instruments? I have both but cannot figure out how to use them musically. On the Dou when does one play the 6 hole whistle and when to add in or just play the 3? Oddly, Susato refuses to be of any help. Thanks!
I have been thinking about doing a tutorial on them for a while now, but I still haven't gotten around to it. The easiest way to start with them is to play the G note like a drone :) (Assuming you have the one in D). You can play it like a regular whistle with 3 fingers on the top holes of one, and 3 fingers on the lower three holes of the other. It would play a constantly sustained G in the background. You can start playing around from there. I will keep you posted when I get around to making a video on this!
You can find them on instagram and etsy :D The first one with the higher pitch is made by Kinfolk Ceramics. The second one with the lower pitch is from Doodki Music.
@@MichaelLevine-n6y Kinfolk Ceramics is quite active on their instagram! They posted a new batch of ocarinas just 3 days ago, but they sell out almost immediately.
Very coincidental video for me because I just discovered the concept of polyphonic ocarinas and thought the sound was amazing. Unfortunately, there don't seem to be too many vendors for them.
The world definitely needs more of them! You could take a look at Kinfolk ceramics on Instagram or Doodki music on Etsy if you are looking to get some. They both make wonderful instruments.
@@ReybenKimWoodwinds Eric David Ramos has a short of a really nice wooden one not available anymore. I know Stl has one and Songbird has a couple dual chamber instruments. Thank you for the suggestions; I'll look into them.
It's always a pleasant surprise to see a new upload from you. Love the short lesson on musical history!
I'm trying to get back to more consistent posting. Thank you for tuning in! I am glad you are enjoying it :D
Very enjoyable video! I'll also mention the large Native American Style double and triple flutes.
Thank you! Those instruments are absolutely magical!
I remember listening to narnian lullaby and wanting a double flute. poly woodwinds are still hard to find though
I do wish they were more accessible! Poly woodwinds are magical.

@@ReybenKimWoodwinds So, tomorrow then?
I wish I knew where to get these unique ocarinas.

@@ReybenKimWoodwinds I think Kinfolk is out of business some years ago, as I have not gotten responses to several email inquries.
