  • Dad has picked cotton with a 2 row cotton picker, a 4 row cotton picker, but never a 6 row cotton picker. Dad got in the cab of our John Deere 9996 and picked 6 rows at at time for the first time in his almost 50 years of farming. Later, the fan clutch went out while Jim was picking. Jim broke it!

The best move we ever made was in 2014 when we bought a 4 year old model 7760 round bale picker.
We really couldn't afford it but we really couldn't afford NOT to.
One man and one machine took the place of two 4 row pickers, an operator for each, a boll buggy, tractor, and operator. 2 module builders, a tractor for each, an operator for each, and 2 men tarping.
And it's here, ready to go every morning, it doesn't complain about the weather, it doesn't want to borrow money, it doesn't lay out drunk, the sheriff doesn't come pick it up for child support and it doesn't keep all your other equipment tore up.
And now it's paid for, and it's paid for itself itself many times over .

Dad has not run a six row picker before, because he has you guys to do it for him. Like I always have said...there's management and then there's labor. Take a guess who is labor. LOL!!!

It was great seeing yall at Sunbelt and getting to see the filming of Let Get Nuts. I wanted to give a special shout out to the lovely wife and kiddos for their part in the camera operations of the show. Hey, just because I told Randy how my favorite part of the Filed Rows was Keithies Korner, yall didn't have to go and blow a clutch and almost drop a nut buggie on Keith. At least not all in one episode. But seriously, getting to talk with dad, Keith and Randy was the high light of the years Sunbelt for me. See yall next year at the Reinke Center Pivot booth. PS, two years in a row, and I haven't got to meet Jim, maybe next time.

Yesterday I was driving up from Florida through Alabama and Tennessee and watching some cotton harvesting. Being raised in wheat country this is certainly educational. Thx!

Love this video and meeting you at the Sunbelt show. This is a perfect application for a camera. Your dad would love being able to see blind spots on the back of the cotton picker or even for lining up to the cart. You can use any of the cameras I left with you. FYI those cameras see great in the pitch black dark. Please shoot me a text if you have any camera questions or if you need an adaptor...we can plug directly into any Deere monitor with a camera input. Best regards

Thanks videos. We should talk cotton again sometime. No row guide on the picker? Our 9996 has it but it’s kinda particular.

We farm in west Texas, and it’s rare to see cotton pickers in my area at least, but there are a couple around. I’ve never understood why they only make pickers up to 6 rows instead of 8 like the cotton strippers. Good vid.

Why did y’all drop the Richardson 111 hat? I can’t wear the 112’s. Or last I seen the 111’s were not not on the website. Had to get me two Amadas hats at the expo, even though they’re not Richardson hats, they’re nice! Randy probably could’ve got them for me free!
