I have been homeschooling for 5 years. I just found your channel and I am being blessed by it. Even though I have been HS for 5 years I still don't know what I'm doing at times and haven't found favorite curriculum yet. Your channel is helping me to learn of other things I haven't looked at before. Thanks!!
I don’t use BJU but we use abeka DVD’s and I love them for the same reason. Also bc my kids can work independently while I clean and cook and I don’t feel guilty about taking the time out to take care of the house or myself. They still get to learn while I do other stuff.
Amen 👏🏼 I totally agree with everything you’ve said in this video. My three girls and I just started homeschooling and are using BJU we absolutely love it especially that God is in all of it! The Christian worldview is so cool to read and learn about!
Thank you for this video, My daughter used BJU in first grade. (we had just started to homeschool) she is going into 9th. And I revisited BJU. You helped me make my decision with distant learning. I am saying a prayer for your health now. Good Bless you. I am going to watch your other videos.
Right now we have 2 third graders, a first grader, a 4 1/2 year old and a 2 year old. :) I'm kinda overwhelmed doing school myself and have been really considering bju distance learning for next year because I will have 4 in school and am already struggling. Really enjoy these videos!!:) Thank you!! Praying for you!:)
I have a kindergartener who is going to do the bju press DL this september for 1st grade. We've done a ton of searching and it seems like it would be a great fit for us. I'm upset I missed the discount this past weekend. Maybe well come across something again in the next few months. Thanks for sharing. Your previous videos on bju sealed the deal a few months back. Great to hear about what you love about it still. Thanks!
Try to find a BJU consultant (called Home Works by Precepts consultant) in your area. They can work with you to get the best deal possible on any BJU materials.
Thank you for sharing this video! I really enjoy all the resources you share and your experiences. I use BJU Geo 9 DL and Grammar 8 DL with my daughter. She is really enjoying those subjects. We stop using the literature, because it just wasn’t interesting to her and I felt I could put together a better literature curriculum myself. This is the first year we’ve used BJU DL and it is the best choice for our family. I am definitely planning to continue using it.
Love your videos. I am doing DL (switched mid year as well) for my 2nd and 11th. I love it so much, I am going to the entire DL DVD’s for next year! Thanks for your review! My daughter loves it too!
Have you used the BJU Press Distance Learning curriculum? If so, share your thoughts. It's a great fit for my family but every family is different. Share your experience with it to help other parents decided if it would be a good fit for them. Thanks!
7 children!-wow Janelle, you are so inspirational! I love your channel and all it’s content. I would love to try BJU press DL for heritage studies 1-only wish it was more affordable:/ Quick question does the heritage studies cover history geography and social studies or just history and geography in the early years?
About how long do the BJU videos/lessons take every day? My son is currently doing the Abeka video lessons, which have good, solid content, but my son is very bored and the videos are so long. He has really struggled this year getting his work done, as he is frustrated and unmotivated... I am considering making the switch to BJU next year, but want to make sure it's better than the Abeka....Thanks for all the info you provide homeschooling moms!
Hi Amanda! After using both Abeka DVD's and BJU Press Distance Learning, I would say that BJU has shorter lessons. For BJU, the length of videos really depends on the subject, grade level and whether the BJU video is an older one or updated one. I am finding that the newer ones are shorter in length usually. Here is a more in-depth review that I did of Abeka vs BJU... ua-cam.com/video/YD3jqLofuYM/v-deo.html
Can you explain more about their distance learning prices? I would LOVE to check them out for next year. How do you pay for multiples? Any discounts? I would have a 5th grader, slow reading 3rd grader, 1st grader behind in reading, and K5. 1 more boy in the future would join those 4 :-)
We knew BJU DL would be more expensive than our previous curriculum so we started budgeting and setting aside money each paycheck so we would have what we needed when it came time to purchase. You can use a BJU Press consultant (called Home Works by Precepts consultant) in your area and they can work with you to get the best deal. Purchasing during an online sale or at a homeschool convention is another great way to snag a discount.
Janelle - Would love to hear your review on The Good and The Beautiful - I'm seeing it come up a lot in the Homeschool community - If you have any insight I'd love to hear :) I was looking at using both BJU and Good Beautiful but have no experience with either.
Hi Amber, I have not used The Good and the Beautiful but I can see they are doing a good job marketing their new curriculum! Everyone is talking about it so I decided to visit their website and check it out. The Good and the Beautiful has a lot of wonderful aspects to it and I can see why so many homeschool families are enjoying it. That said, it is written by a Mormon/LDS and while she states that the curriculum is non-denomination, I would caution families who are not LDS to prayerfully consider whether or not this curriculum would be good for their families. I personally prefer to use curriculum that has a protestant world view (such as BJU Press, Tapestry of Grace, My Father's World etc.) so I would not use The Good and the Beautiful. Just my personal opinion though. :)
I am looking at TGTB as well but have similiar concerns, Janelle. I downloaded a year of LA curriculum and, so far, have not seen anything alarming. I am drawn to it because it is beautifully done and incorporates so many subjects: reading, writing, grammar, art, geography, spelling. It's tough for me to get all of those in individually (esp geography and art). We use BJU DLO for many subjects right now and, while I enjoy and trust them, my kids get a bit burned out on the videos...and I am feeling a bit detatched. Yes, it's easy and effective. We may continue with it but TGTB is pulling my attention. Had this been developed as a purely Bible-based program (jury is out), I would be sold. Sounds like I'm not alone.
I’d love to know how you were able to switch to the distance learning mid year. We attempted to do the same, but were told by BJU press that we were not allowed to receive any of the materials before July 2018 :-(
Hi Janelle!! Question for you: we are looking at doing BJU DL for science, we are in a season where we are not getting around to science or much of History bc life lol, and on many videos i'm watching BJU keeps popping up and I said, ok Lord, is this my solition for now?? Do you think since i have a 4th & 5th grader and we were already doing science together we could make it work the same way with DL? And i have also heard its pricy, how would you say would be the best way to make it affordable,
It really depends on how many subjects your student is doing via video lessons. My 7th grader is doing 3 of her subjects through BJU DL. Those 3 take her about 2 hours plus the other subjects. Here is a video I did on how long homeschooling should take... ua-cam.com/video/TEfZMlt8i8E/v-deo.html
Hi Janelle! I am planning to use BJU DLO in homeschooling my grade 8th daughter, I saw a preview of their online video lesson. I find it is a little outdated. I am wondering if they have updated the videos for Grade 8?
What is shown as samples on their website is what you will get. Several of the 8th grade subjects have been updated but I know the English is still in need of an update.
Hi again Janelle! Thanks for your reply! Is it mandatory to watch the video or we can study on our own or watch other videos related to the topic on our own?
I am looking for the video where you talk about the discounts you got through using a consultant. I would love to pepper you with questions. I'm struggling with a major health issue and am interested in BJU.
I'm sorry to hear you are having major health issues. I've been there while homeschooling. It is tough but God is faithful and sufficient to carry us through these difficult seasons. Praying for you! Here is the link for where to find a Home Works consultant (they sell BJU Press curriculum): www.homeworksbyprecept.com/consultant-and-event-locator I do offer homeschool consultations. Here is the link for more information about that if you are interested. www.janelleknutson.com/consulting/
@@kikik5266 I've done so many videos, I can't remember which one I talked about discounts with BJU. :) The best way to get a discount with BJU is to go through a consultant. Every now and then BJU Press has an amazing sale but none going on right now.
This is gonna seem so petty but I didn’t like k4 DLO because of how outdated it was. It also bothered me that Chester the puppet had one voice and the animate Chester had a different voice. The puppet was also very disturbing to look at. It’s proportions were way off.
Janelle Knutson, I was told at the Greenville convention by a consultant that they are working on updating those two grade levels as we speak! I’m so excited for my two year old to have those in a few years.
They have a DVD option and it is the exact same price! And BJU mails the DVD's in a separate box with a return label so all you have to do is drop the DVD's in the box, stick the return label on and drop it off to be mailed back to them. Super easy!

It does seem to focus more on history and geography but there is a little social studies mixed in as well.

Yes. The videos are exactly the same. The only difference is the way you are viewing the content...via DVD or online.
