Was just saying how I wish they had something that works with prescriptions and found this video. Looked at their webpage and they offer prescription inserts and so I have moved these to the top of my list for possible AR glasses. Thank you for showcasing them!
Hands down the best review of these glasses. Some reviews don't even get to the 120Hz part which is one of the main features that sets it apart. The dock not working on a Slteamdeck is also important information that I hear the first time here. And regarding 9:23 yeah, why the benchmarking of phones when only few can output this laptop like power to a laptop sized screen or glasses? Phone screens are too tiny for productivity or most games, I don't get it.
How does the Audio work? can you use a Bluetooth Airpods? Or does it have to be on LOUD speaker mode all the time? I dont want to bug people around me when im travelling.
I think they're fun. The only caveat I'll throw from this video, fit is critical, and everyone's face is different. I know folks who really liked the air, but those did NOT do it for me.
Wish someone would do a solid review of this device with the adapter for the iPhone and talk about pros and cons. Every reviewer is just using android. Also Rokid station isn’t even available in the USA. It’s some weird other adapter and they not any reviewer goes over it.
9:13 Great to see you mention about video output. I still maintain phone brands don't put video output on smartphones because it will disrupt their Android tablet and Chromebook laptop sales. I still don't see Android Desktop Mode can truly replace desktop-grade Windows/macOS/Linux, but it's such a truly useful feature on smartphones that it makes you wonder why would you buy an Android tablet or a Chromebook laptop at all in the first place when you can easily travel light with just the phone and the AR glasses.
Juan, this is an extremely cool product. Thanks for reviewing them. Price is somewhat prohibitive now but hopefully they'll reach a more accessible, masses-friendly price.
The progress is exciting. When the first cinema screen came out, it was larger than a VR headset, and cost well over $1000 accounting for inflation. Less than two years ago, a more portable version of that idea would have cost over $700. Now, these glasses are only a little more expensive than a good portable OLED with a slower 60Hz refresh rate. If you're looking to pack a portable display, the pricing is falling in line REALLY close to an actual panel you would have to pack like a laptop. It's not really THAT exotic anymore. You're paying a premium for the miniaturization.

These vs Nreal Air, all things considered? Price, interface, fit, sound, picture quality? Im looking at the Max simply because it's newer. The 120hz and the diopters are a nice extra feature, but with the diopters, I wouldn't need it for me (did the diopters cause any blurry, fuzzy or not so clear picture quality issues?) . l would probably mostly use them for videos and the Steam Deck (any heavy games wouldn't even use the 120hz). Potentially, the occasional Samsung Dex use. But, if I'm not mistaken, Nreal has been at it for longer, so I'm curious as to if their interface is more refined and further along? The Nreal airs also look more like glasses, although I'm not sure I care much.
Nreal doesn't support Google phones yet...so my only option is rokid...I like the styling of the nreal and I like the privacy the nreal offers in a darker tint lens
Very nice video, thank you! What is better for watching movies (not theater-like, but from my NAS), Rokid Max (or similar glasses like Xreal Air) or Meta Quest 3 (or even MQ2)?
It depends on how "immersive" you want to go, and if you want a screen that's larger than your field of view. The center clarity of the Rokid should be sharper than the Quest if you want the "big tv floating in space in front of you at a distance" effect.
@@SomeGadgetGuy checking the specs, can Q3 bring almost the same level (or even more maybe) of movie experience than a Rokid Max (example: OLED vs LCD)? Purely from a budget standpoint, the Rokid seems to be a little bit overpriced compared with the Q3, considering that it can do way less, than the Q3...

Also, even though I'm farsighted, my eyes are not EQUALLY farsighted, and it takes a bit of fiddling to get the fit on my nose dialed in. EVERYONE's face is different. @@SomeGadgetGuy Thanks for the reply. What are your thoughts about how the Rokid fits around your temples and ears? I felt like the NReal was very tight and uncomfortable.

Every company is working on some kind of solution. Rokid is looking at a standalone compute unit mentioned in this video. Nreal is working on wireless options. You have to jump through a LOT of hoops to replace the functionality of a proper USB3 port.
I'm not sure what you mean by safe? The outer lens housing is kinda like sunglasses, and the birdbath optics can cast faint reflections up from the ground. If you were sitting in direct sun, the glasses will probably run hot. I don't know any reason why they'd be considered dangerous.
just compare with meta quest 2 vr headset, becaus ethey say it will burn the display with direct sunlight and i was unsure about safety with rokid max by wearing the glass outside as normal glasses@@SomeGadgetGuy
The tech is awesome but I think they invested everything in function and forgot about the form. It makes you look like an alien. Informative and envelope-pushing as always.
Part of the confusion is all the missmatching with USB-C. Many people think any old USB-C port/cable can work or should be able to 'do the thing they are trying' as it is USB-C. When it is only capable of 2.0 speeds or just basic data tranfer.
Thanks for briging these not so well known gadgets to our attention Juan. Traditionally, I would get tired of the heavy and nauseating VR headsets pretty quickly (I know it's not exactly the same use intent, but still), they never managed to hold my attention for long and I never got tempted to spend money on one. This is something much more in line with what I'd be happy to actually use in the longer, more utilitarian term. When I have some spare $$$ I might give one of these a go. I do prefer the previous models' design that you showed for comparison though, these are slightly on the..biomimicry...side of things🙂
One of Tested's valid complaints of the space was the lack of using sensors to fix the image to one place so you can move your head to see the full image, which is more natural than darting your eyes around. The XReal Beam seems to try and solve that. With the max being a larger FOV is that problem worse?
It's about the same as the other options I've played with, but I haven't gotten my hands on beam yet. the 3 degrees of tracking will be a bit limited, especially if your head moves in space around a room.
@@SomeGadgetGuy i think the space just needs 2DOF. 3DOF will take too much compute and would needs more sensors which is counter to the vision of these manufacturers.
Well, it gets complicated on what we're trying to achieve. Say I have a photo, and I blow the photo up to several times the size of the headset's field of view, the glasses actually do this pretty well if my body stays in a fixed position, and I can move my head around to see pieces of a zoomed in image. The ORGANIC experience of leaning into an image and leaning away from an image can't be replicated with only 3dof, but you still need 3dof to look around the image from a fixed position. It's why these companies all have bulkier options like the Rokid Vision for better head tracking and object "permanence".
@@SomeGadgetGuy what i was trying to say is yes they have 2DOF in their native apps. But if plugging in to dex, consoles, steam deck the sensors that do exist are shut off and to game on them you can only move your eyes to read subtitles, check your HUD etc. The beam is exciting because it says it's going to make everything 2DOF. I want something as a portable monitor but i want to be able to behave like i have a portable monitor. Please tell me xreal sent you the beam!
When you show the mouse keyboard combo I assume I saw the microsoft foldable keyboard? It's just weird that the most lightweight, portable keyboard now is still a product from 6 years ago... Or is there other foldable keyboard that you recommend?
Hello Juan, Itotally agree it's ridicukous how people are satisfied with the features they get delivered from their producers of any product, especially apple is a goog example in "preventing" their customers from new features instead of empowering them with all what is possible. Thanks for this good review. ,,,by the way I love the Max also!
Hi this is Mark. I am 62 and not a techy. I am looking for some type of glasses to just watch movies. Is Rokid max. What I need. I don't do any gaming. Thanks for your opinion.
Hello Mark, I think these are a good place to start. Think of them like headphones for your eyes. Not all headphones are comfortable to all listeners. If the Rokid don't fit you comfy, then you can also try XREAL and TCL/Rayneo. Plug them into a laptop, play your movie, you should be good to go. Or you can get the Rokid Max with the Rokid Station, and the station will act like a TV with a Chromecast. Happy hunting!
Do you have any experience with the Rokid Max Lens Inserts? I am far-sighhted and the myopia correction which is build-in doesn`t help me ;-) Will these lens inserts work good for far-sighted people?
I still can’t figure out how to hook up my Rokid max to my portable version of Nintendo switch. And I cant figure out how to hook up my Rokid to my phone while I sit in my car during lunch so I can watch videos. Anyone have any solutions?
someday we'll have all those scifi things! but yeah, this is an amazing product, wouldnt be surprised if many other big tech companies jump on this. apple vr is already i guess, theyll probably revolutionize vr/ar in society
I think they're really close to each other now. The Max will appeal to folks who want the diopters and the 120Hz. When using them for 60fps content or movies, theyre a lot more similar.
I think it's possible. I've written scripts and edited video on mine. I think EVERYONE will have different tolerances for how long they can use something like this.
The Rokid Hub Adapter? I had confirmation from Rokid that it didn't work, and it doesn't work with mine. You can charge the deck through the hub, but it doesn't put out a video signal. The Rokid Max work great connected directly to the Deck.
@@SomeGadgetGuy Correct the hub. Other reviewers are saying the hub works on the Steam Deck to charge and utilize the display together. Hence my confusion.
Don't know what to say there. I have two hubs, neither work, and Rokid said it wouldn't. I guess there could be a different charger that might power it properly, but it's not officially compatible.
@@SomeGadgetGuy I appreciate the real answers. I need a hub that with the Ally before I buy these glasses. Thank you kindly for your time and prompt response.
I always watch videos and such while i spread out clothes and such and I've always been saying i with my screen was always just floating right in front of me so i can look between it and my task while moving around
Not that I've seen? So if I have it connected to my laptop, I'm watching the video over VLC, VLC is sending video out based on the frame rate of the file. Using other services or apps, YOU CAN toggle settings in those apps to turn on "fluid motion" modes, but the glasses aren't going to automagically add those extra frames.
The glasses themselves work on the steam deck just fine. It's the Rokid Dock which doesn't work (charge AND video out). Gotta find a different solution if you want that option.
Hot take: AR advancements are much more exciting than VR. I mean sure, gaming in VR is better, but we spend so much more time doing other things with our computers. AR is better suited for it.

@David yh, the Rokid Max is coming out this May (my pre-order is coming around late May they said). As for the Rokid Max PRO, I just looked back at that video I was talking about (by MRTV around the 24 or 26 minute mark), n the CEO he interviewed claimed that they will announce the PRO version later this yr or next yr n described it as "true AR" (some specs they talked about were 6dof n 3D gestures being possible with just one camera). Am I the only one who thinks the glasses sit about an inch too high on your face? They make it look like they think your eyes are up where your eyebrows are. When using the 3D head tracking yes. When using a static UI your screen is more like a trackpad.
Try nreal air vs rokid would be great to hear your review
The tech is awesome but I think they invested everything in function and forgot about the form. It makes you look like an alien. Informative and envelope-pushing as always.
I wonder if they will make different plates like the blackout shield.
Part of the confusion is all the missmatching with USB-C.
Many people think any old USB-C port/cable can work or should be able to 'do the thing they are trying' as it is USB-C. When it is only capable of 2.0 speeds or just basic data tranfer.
Could you please review the ThinkReality a3 pc edition?
Thanks for briging these not so well known gadgets to our attention Juan. Traditionally, I would get tired of the heavy and nauseating VR headsets pretty quickly (I know it's not exactly the same use intent, but still), they never managed to hold my attention for long and I never got tempted to spend money on one.
This is something much more in line with what I'd be happy to actually use in the longer, more utilitarian term. When I have some spare $$$ I might give one of these a go. I do prefer the previous models' design that you showed for comparison though, these are slightly on the..biomimicry...side of things🙂
Yeah... The lens mounts are better integrated, but it is a very... specific look...
So, can my IPad actually export trough usb-C ? I want to use 2 of these to watch movies with my buddy on the ceiling 😁
Btw bought a portable monitor thanks to your channel. Im running a dex setup with foldable keyboard
Any hope for them sitting a little lower on your face like traditional glasses?
Maybe? The challenge is where to mount the displays and how to bounce the image to a larger lens.
When you show the mouse keyboard combo I assume I saw the microsoft foldable keyboard? It's just weird that the most lightweight, portable keyboard now is still a product from 6 years ago... Or is there other foldable keyboard that you recommend?
Why mess with a classic? The new Microsoft keyboard is really nice, but doesn't fold.
how does it compare to nReal??
Very well.
Any change we can get a video on them being use with an iPhone or iPad and see how that works out ? :)
It's not gonna be any different with iphones until apple makes it easier to use accessories.
It's always more fun to chat about good competition rather than be a brand fan.
I am far-sighhted and the myopia correction which is build-in doesn`t help me ;-)
Will these lens inserts work good for far-sighted people?
Why does the splitter adapter not work with a Steam Deck?
Steam Deck probably draws more power than the splitter can handle?
Do3s it work in Samsung s23 ultra?
yes
I still can’t figure out how to hook up my Rokid max to my portable version of Nintendo switch. And I cant figure out how to hook up my Rokid to my phone while I sit in my car during lunch so I can watch videos. Anyone have any solutions?
does this work with Lg G8x thinq ? anybody tried with this LG phone and has success ?
someday we'll have all those scifi things!
but yeah, this is an amazing product, wouldnt be surprised if many other big tech companies jump on this. apple vr is already i guess, theyll probably revolutionize vr/ar in society
I'll be shocked if Lenovo isn't playing with something similar next year.
Is it better than them Nreals?
I think they're really close to each other now. The Max will appeal to folks who want the diopters and the 120Hz. When using them for 60fps content or movies, theyre a lot more similar.
I’m vision-impaired. Could I use this as a magnified monitor for work instead of play?
I think it's possible. I've written scripts and edited video on mine. I think EVERYONE will have different tolerances for how long they can use something like this.
are these bone conduction headphones?
Nope. Small speaker elements.
Other reviewers are using the adapter on the Steam deck. Is this not true? I want to use it with the coming ROG Ally. Thanks.
Rokid still only lists compatibility with Android phones and the Switch global.rokid.com/products/rokid-hub
Does this 120 refresh rate produce the dreaded "soap opera effect" on movies that you get on TVs that have things like "smooth motion" enabled?
Not that I've seen? So if I have it connected to my laptop, I'm watching the video over VLC, VLC is sending video out based on the frame rate of the file.
Using other services or apps, YOU CAN toggle settings in those apps to turn on "fluid motion" modes, but the glasses aren't going to automagically add those extra frames.
@@SomeGadgetGuy Thank you!
I just want glasses that can filter what I’m seeing. I want to see everything in black and white.
How do they do on the steam deck at 40fps 40hz
Great? It's 40Hz. The glasses themselves have no processing or frame manipulation.
@@SomeGadgetGuy ah cool that makes scene chears mate
can it handle 180/360 videos?
I haven't gotten them to work well. There's some developer support to start using the head tracking better, but it's rudimentary so far.
@@SomeGadgetGuy thanks for the info, just ordered using your promo code :)
Does this work on the steam deck now?
The glasses themselves work on the steam deck just fine. It's the Rokid Dock which doesn't work (charge AND video out). Gotta find a different solution if you want that option.
Hot take: AR advancements are much more exciting than VR.
I mean sure, gaming in VR is better, but we spend so much more time doing other things with our computers. AR is better suited for it.
Completely agree. And if we build towards a practical AR future, we can always create VR experiences with that AR equipment.
Also, AR is more realistic than VR.
I just really want glasses that'll work with software like Google lens app translation.
looks good, shame any of these seem imposible to get your hands on, at least where I live, shame as I would love one when flying to amaerica next month, oh well perhaps I could get something in the states, at least have it for way back. just want something good to watch youtube, netflix, apply tv, amazon prime, that's it.
The Max are just launching, but if you can ship to the USA, it's not a bad plan.
@@SomeGadgetGuy yeah been trying to buy the nreals for the last month, the one retailer on the UK that is meant to sell them , is just full of broken links. These types of glasses seem to have passed us by.
Neat, but only when they hit the 150 mark
I’m in a dilemma contemplating between Rokid Max Ar Glass and the Em3 Ether Vr Glass.
Ether look GOOD, but I haven't seen any shipping yet.
Might want to wait for Rokid Max Pro perhaps then? I forgot what specs it might hav compared to Rokid Max, but they did say the release date might b later this yr (saw this in another video who went into their HQ).
@@DragonoidForm really I haven’t heard any thing about the Rokid Max Pro the Rokid Max Ar Glasses is in pre-order right now supposed to be out later this May?
@David yh, the Rokid Max is coming out this May (my pre-order is coming around late May they said). As for the Rokid Max PRO, I just looked back at that video I was talking about (by MRTV around the 24 or 26 minute mark), n the CEO he interviewed claimed that they will announce the PRO version later this yr or next yr n described it as "true AR" (some specs they talked about were 6dof n 3D gestures being possible with just one camera). Whatever the specs may b, I just hope it looks like normal glasses 😆
This vs nreal air
Am I the only one who thinks the glasses sit about an inch too high on your face? They make it look like they think your eyes are up where your eyebrows are. I'm sure it's a function of the hardware projecting the image down ... but they still look a bit off. I do wonder how they would work as replacements for office monitors though. That could be fun and make for some tidy desktops.
1990 - dont sit to close to the TV, it will ruin your eyes.
2023 - put the screen as close to our eye balls as possible for 450.00. pay to be blind..
Pre-ordering now.
And once you use it, you'll see how it's not at all like sitting TOO close to a TV...
@@SomeGadgetGuy i know I was just kidding around haha
😊
No 4k and no Head Tracking on Laptop..
So people who wear glasses will need to use contacts im guessing?
Or get some lens inserts.
"My script is right here." You rascal.
It's silly, but I bet folks can tell when Im rambling off script still 😅
the way they sit on the face just looks stupid
once they make it look good to wear it will be awesome though
After sales is very poor
