I lost my parents within 4 yrs of each other and with that came all their stuff. I’ve gotten rid of quite a bit but I still have old photos and paperwork that I really just didn’t know what to do with. I needed to hear it’s ok to get rid of old photos of people I don’t know! In fact I’m not keeping any pics that aren’t flattering to the memory of that person. 🤣 I felt bad wanting to get rid of them but I truly don’t know those folks. Hold onto the memories, take a moment and honor them if needed and let that stuff go y’all. 🥰

I am finding it very calming to have a place for everything.I am 70 and live alone and it was so stressful endlessly looking for stuff I had mislaid.I feel so much more confident now and in control of my life.Thank you Andrew.

I love the honour shown in this!
The church is opening and accepting the man and his God given gift to help the body of Christ, but more so just people in general!
And Andrew is respectful of the clear differences between the differing beliefs systems he and his audience have, instead of that being the focus he looks to what unites everyone.
    This was beautiful!

years before Marie Kondo ... the act of acknowledging "Thank you, I wanted you at one point and I don't want any longer." Comfort, convenience, beauty - well, well ...

Thanks you just gave me permission to be me. As an artist I have project I like to jump into upon waking. My visiting sister occupied my living space/ studio. Things did not go well she attempted to organize me. Lovely thought. All the reds all the blues etc etc. were put in order by color however I now had to search for my aquarelles, my oils, acrylic colors as well as some ceramic glazes LOL it totally derailed me.

32:10 - libraries can take old photographs; there are projects which are compiling digital & print archives of pre-internet decades.

How do you help someone , that doesn't want to clean up the clutter or thinks they don't have clutter. They make excuses for the clutter. They blame others for their clutter. My Mom has had this problem for years. I managed the clutter for years, at her office but once I left, it exploded again. She can't seem to separate her 2 businesses and they collide in the back room, her best friend used to helped her run the 2nd business but after she passed away, the clutter has accumulated by double. I have tried to help but she is too controlling when it comes to help, saying she'll read it later, she'll go through those papers from 2010 later. It's 2017, when is the clutter going to be organized? How can I help ?

Alex K I feel your urge to help someone else. It is a real struggle. I decided I could waste my entire remaining years helping this other person get to a point I would consider organized. I decided to say no. My life , what is left of it is too valuable and if I am too close to the situation I better step back a bit until I feel a comfortable distance. Life is too short. I got my own stuff to do.

Alex, I feel your pain and frustration and sadly, without your mom's willingness to change, you can't help her. While it's not completely analogous, I would suggest you check out some Al Anon literature. It may prove very helpful in drawing healthy boundaries between you and your mom. Their 3C's slogan: "you didn't cause it, you can't control it, you can't cure it" has been very helpful for me when dealing with friends, family and clients who are more committed to being unhappy than they are to changing. Good luck to you -- wishing you peace and much love.
