    I use watch winders because you are going to have to have your watched serviced every 5-10 years anyway (depending on use) and a watch winder does not seem to accelerate that.

    When the question about the special Jack Forster watch came up I KNEW he would bring up the Easter complication, I remember him bringing it up a couple years ago on Hodinkee Radio and it hasn't really left my mind either, such an interesting problem with not a lot of real world impact, but that's what the world of watches is today, nobody needs one, but we obsess over them anyway

    7:15 would block the date on most of my watches. I usually like to have the date wheel visible and 12 o clock free.
    But I think we can all agree that the hands have to be spaced out.

    A latitude and longitude complication to make the sunrise sunset complication work. I’d like to see that in a mechanical watch. 😉

      The Krayon Everywhere has this precise complication. It's $ 600,000. The Anywhere is only $100,000 if you prefer to send it back for adjustment every time you move.

    Grand Seiko would be best positioned to implement that sunrise/sunset complication.
    They just need to get their spring driver to power an IC with a GPS receiver. Easier said than done I imagine.

    Spring drive? Why don’t all watches have this (patent allowing)? The stuttering seconds of the Swiss luxury movements has become an irritating motion for a watch so expensive.

    • @cheemomugdoo799
      @cheemomugdoo799 2 роки тому +2

      The thing I don't like about the spring drive movement is that it's not purely mechanical. Sure, they don't use a battery, but they do use electricity, and an integrated circuit. For me this is a deal breaker.

    How about it’s because “spring drive“ is a hoax. We don’t identify a watch by the system that powers it. If we did quartz watches would be battery watches instead. We’ve always identified watches by the escapement, either mechanical or quartz. Seiko pulled off a genius marketing move by calling quartz watches that are driven by a spring “spring drives“ because they knew no collector would buy these watches if they were simply called quartz.

    • @diavalus
      @diavalus 2 роки тому +1

      Spring drive is quartz. Has a quartz inside, therefore it is quartz. As you said, spring drive is just another marketing term to sell overpriced quartz movements.
