In this video I'm going to show you how to tailor a suit jacket yourself. It's actually way easier than you think too!
The first thing you want to do is flip your jacket inside out. This jacket doesn't have a liner on it, but if it did all you would have to do is cut a hole on the bottom and pull your jacket through it to expose the seams. We're altering the two side seams on this jacket, but not the center seam. In the event that we wanted to we could do that but this jacket fits great in the middle of my back already.
We're putting what's called a double tapered straight stitch on these seams, meaning it's going to taper twice, as opposed to once like they would on dress shirt darts for example. Pin the seams up on the sides and try on your jacket to see if you like it If you do then you can proceed to stitching it up!
What you want to do is to put a straight stitch on there that's set at 2.5, or 2.5mm in length. You want your stitch tension to be pretty loose for this to avoid any puckering on the outside. Once your finished try it on again to see if you like it, and then you're done! No need to cut anything or finish it with a zigzag stitch.
