nice video I live in Greece and they are all around the place especially when they have nuptial flights I didn’t know their so expensive when I see queens I just let them go and search for other queens this year I’m 100% going to catch some
I live in Athens, Greece and today I saw a large lepisiota colony move some brood to a new place in my yard and I was wondering when they fly, do you know when their nuptial flights are? are happening already?
Queens of Lepisiota frauenfeldi for example are born brachypterous; with short wings unable to fly. Mating takes places inside nests by both outbreeding males from other colonies but also by inbreeding. Other bigger Lepisiota such as Lepisiota nigra have normal nuptial flights during June-July.
Nice video , Nice colony ! I'm planning on buying this nest, but wonder if the plastic tubes can/should be replaced by glass tubes, do you have any problem of visibility scratches, etc ? Not sure the tubes are supposed to be manipulated or cleaned very often though !
625 euro?! What kind of math did you do to calculate such a ridiculous price lol. They are very common where they exist natively, which is throughout the Balkans and parts of western Asia. In Greece they are abundant. Colonies with many hundreds of queens strong, in some cases even 1000 queens per colony can be exceeded. I find many 200+ queen colonies every holiday in Croatia and it just takes a rock to flip and a few minutes to aspirate them into a bottle. I refuse to believe 25Q are worth more than 40 euro total 😂
With a normal monogynous Antspecies it would be very dangerous to move the Colony like that... but with so much Queens inside the Colony it shouldn't be a problem.
@@EstheticAnts Its nothing personal, I just refuse to go to channels that pump out double adds in videos, I have several people I follow that have adds that don't do that. Maybe pressure You tube to stop that shit so you don't lose viewers. One content creator wont be enough, but if you all complain then maybe. Till then good luck.
Update: The colony now has its first pupea!

it feels so good when you see a huge swarm of queens randomly!
Wauw what a great video and colony!
Thanks I appreciate that!
do u know if u can keep messor structor in the saturn. My main concern is that messor ants are not great at climbing
You can without an issue
As I am knew to ant keeping would be possible to cover some of the tubes without affecting the fit as I do like the look of the ant nest

And the light / lack of darkness?
Most ants don't care about light or dark.
Good question I wondered myself how this worked. So I could also keep Lasius niger without covering the nest? I’m sorry, am a beginner 😔

Nah its fine to move them like that
Congratulations on your great video This is a very interesting species Can we get these nests in Australia Thanks again
Thanks man! I don't think you can sadly.

Im waiting :)
Good!
Hi i love your video's ceep going!
Thanks!
Cool, I best this nest will be perfect for them 👍
Hmm test tubes are not the best for this species but it works!
@@EstheticAnts true, but it will be easy to expand their nesting space fro when the colony starts to pick up the pace on egg production
There are 2 Ant species very related to this species, anelopis gracilipes yellow crazy ants and paratrechina longhicornis black crazy ants
very true
Haha na de eerste paar seconden wist ik al meteen dat je Nederlands was
lol
I love it
Who else is waiting?
Doesn’t the lack of darkness make this unsuitable for certain species?
double stacked commercials?? nope never coming back.
lol every video has that.
