    Well, one reason why this particular bike handles so well is its exceptional wheelbase for a 500cc propelled ride. Gotta luv it - what a little screamer.

    I had a 1976 GT500 in 1978. First thing I noticed on the video was how vibration free his bike was - impressed by the rubber engine mounts! Unfortunately as the fella goes through the mods, it's more a scratch built bike with a GT500 engine in! Should have kept the original tank as that looked great!

    I own a pair of 1975 GT750 "Kettles" and I am starting to go through them. I like how you put your GT twin together. Great tech tips but I am sure the porter in NC would have appreciated a more specific reference.

    Suzuki by far built the best 2 strokes. Much more durable than Yamahas and Kawasakis

    Good looking bike, nice details and sounds healthy.
    My first bike, purchased Summer of '77, was a 69 T500, paid $600 bucks I think.
    Man that thing took me everywhere, all over the Southland, up and down the Owens Valley, through the Sierra and the Central Valley without any breakdowns....tough as nails machine.
    Hah! you need nuts made of nails to handle the vibration that bike pulses into the seat on a 350 mile day.
    What strikes me over the years while fiddling with dozens of other bikes is how burly, thick and hardened those old Suzuki parts were, built to take a pounding.
    It had a left side kick start lever, I think its referred to as a Le Mans? type start(er).
    The rider could kick start it without swinging a leg over it.
    Fun, fun, fun.

    Beautiful bike! You should try sticking the GoPro on the side of the helmet - letting us get that "POV" experience. Can be done with the curved adhesive mount.

    Nice work. Keeping my '76 GT500 stock. I'm considering the improved motor mounts though since I'm not a fanatic about maintaining that status. I'd like a smoother ride at high revs. Also the big stock gas tank is IMO a must for this gas hog.

    In standard form, they vibrate like crazy above 50 mph.I have got one, a GT 500A.
    Put your gloves on, friend. You will tear your hands to pieces if you fall off.

      If you have that much vibration at 55 mph you either had a duff engine, the wrong gearing or it needs the throttle bodies synching or something. You can cruise at 75 mph without problem in 5th gear, they were known as being great touring bikes in their day, I doubt they'd have received such accolades if restricted to a 50 mph cruising speed. Mine doesn't vibrate much until about 5k rpm which is about 78 mph with stock gearing.

    One of my favourite bikes and I have 3 T 500's. But lets be honest. They handle like shit and the fuel economy is terrible. However, they are very reliable and give good service.

      David Darby incorrect. I owned a 77 gt 500 twin.

      That must be outside of the U.S. '77 was first yr of the 4 strokes.

    • @jeffsaunders2778
      @jeffsaunders2778 7 років тому

      David Darby true that. Canadian. I have seen 76 gt 500's however. 77's had a larger fuel tank. Looked like a gs but with the 2 stroke.

      I own a 1976 Suzuki GT500, it's a US bike. They were available in 76 and 77 only, had a disc front brake, diferent forks and used a GT750 fuel tank and had a number of other modifications including the instrument panels. They were always called GT500's in Japan or were for most of their production.

    • @fiveowaf454
      @fiveowaf454 7 років тому

      All Suzuki two stroke production ended in 1977, the GT500 was available for only 2 model years 1976 and 1977.
