Wooly is back and the froth is real! 6 months has been a long time healing the knee but he is back ready to go and the fourth board out of the editing studio is the DHD Mick Fanning Twin - if you are in WA you can demo this board now at Star.
Wooly weighs 87kg/192lb and is 6'1"/187cm tall
Wooly is riding a 6'4" x 20 1/2" x 2 5/8" - 35.8L

THE MF TWIN DEVELOPED WITH MORE DRIVE, MORE SPEED FOR MORE CONDITIONS.
The MF twin with a horseshoe tail has more rocker, more concave and a straighter tail outline than a traditional twin fin. The design specification deliver Mick's trademark speed, tighter turns in the pocket and more hold through carving turns.

Been waiting for someone to do a review on this board have almost pulled the trigger a couple of times on buying one just haven't yet you may have just put it over the line.
On the fin side there is a couple of very similar shaped fins done by a fewer smaller board manufacturers to suite futures boxes.
Yeah it was a really good board to ride. I have seen a few similar fin templates but I had never used any like that before. Good combo.

Another amazing video. I am also 6”2 190 but have worse surf in florida wanting a loose fast board with volume …. I grabbed the 36 liter 6”0 flat earth after watching your review and it rly goes well…. I have been using just the aipa twin without the trailer…. Looking for a touch more drive… do you think these Mick twins without the trailer would fly on the 6’0 flat earth thinking of getting a pair for it

Great review. A comment you made regarding twin fins not usually going rail to rail well perked my interest... As I've just got a custom twin and its terrible rail to rail. What's your thinking around why they're typically so bad in that regard?

I think it's usually the width in the tail for me.
Im finding narrower tailed twins are allowing me to surf more the way I like to. The wider ones are good fun in small surf but I don' like the way I have to nurse them as the waves get better.

i was just thinking of getting a phantom or a pyzelian 2. do you think the dhd can be an option too? i remember you really liked the pyzelian (tried the phantom as well?). do they sit in the same place? need it for 2-5 ft beach breaks for carving, flowters and cutties style..

is there much difference between the Free Scrubber and the MF twin, and which did you prefer?
Yeah really different boards but one common thing - they hold in well.
Really depends on what you want from a board, the Free Scrubber is a few inches shorter than the MF twin for the same volume. I liked the MF in overhead surf where as the FS was good in chest high and up.
Rocker looks pretty interesting.

It was very busy that day and I was sitting out a little bit fitter and catching the sets so I had to dodge a lot of people sitting on the inside 😂
Good design. Fins are too far back. Notice how he's getting no drive.

Oh yeah? It just triggers me how they don't know how to place fins for twins or quads even though the overall design might be good. The board didn't look to project out of turns, just kind of provided directional control. I think that moon tail is better than round tho for a kind of performance twin.
I love Kramer, and i thought the exact same thing of the fin placement. Of course it has drive, but it looks difficult to turn since the fins are so pushed back like in every dhd twin. anyways i just bought this board
How far forward are the fins?
You're a smallish light guy on a short board with low volume. And the left you're on is a decent wave where all boards will go. Really we're sick of these god-like "shapers" (really only designers now) only supplying boards which suit guys up to 80kg absolute max. Really the boards are for blokes under 75kg, and guess what? That isn't the norm for Australian males. None of these "shapers" can make good boards for males 90kg to 110kg. All go really wide or way too long and then of course the boards don't work. And then we've got the stupid 4/4/4 glass which is so obviously designed to dent and snap quickly (so punters buy more and more boards). All up no.
