a lot of people have been asking and all the live sessions are stored for you to rewatch. Live painting every week through my Patreon... they are unlisted videos here on youtube that can only be accessed through Patreon. thanks yäll
Hey man, can i ask something? What is the reason your paintings look more like cartoon- ish or comic book like? It is not bad, its a style, but i wonder what thing in the process of painting gives this outcome? Is it the blending of the colors or something?
Why your colors don't look like some classic reneaissance colors and paintings? I really wonder this. It does not seem realistic.
since i discovered you you were not afraid of failing in public. this is what holds people back to do the same. good portrait
insane that you didnt start till u were 20. im 20 just starting to get really serious about music n it makes me feel super encouraged to see you getting so good starting at an older age! fuckin awesome man
The time is now Frankie
Watching one slew video gives me enough energy to paint for a week
KEEP PAINTING
I’ve been painting a small portrait almost every day for the past week, and I’m just wondering when I’ll get art block, because I usually don’t go this long this easily.
I am really tempted to get my easel out, from the self storage I locked it up in.....
@@tigre3droyce771 it's been a year , hope you were reunited with your easel!
Production quality increases every day
Best of the excellence to accept some things as an artist that is failure and criticisms and making yourself work within failures. Thanks for the vid .
I’m not a painter or artist but your work ethic honestly inspires me, Slew!
Dude, you are such an inspiration.... I’m starting my own channel soon and you are one of the main inspirations for this!
This content will be in Portuguese since I’m from Brazil.... but soon enough I’ll be producing some stuff here as well and I just wanna thank you for sharing your art process.... that what this is all about for me... the art process.... THANKS TEN THOUSAND TIMES
Boa Sorte! I have been inspired with this young man since I found him in YT. I am a bit older than all of you. But I think SLEW is the right artist to inspire many of you! including me..... vá em frente com seus sonhos!!!!!
all the love from syria mr. slew / you are becoming my mentor thank u for everything u have done
Dude you’ve only been painting for 5 years????? That gives me quite a bit of hope lol. I’m just now really getting into learning and practicing art. I always doodled & stuff on my homework but just a few months ago I bought an iPad & I’ve been practicing whenever I’ve had the time. I was honestly worried that since I haven’t been drawing / painting for my whole life I could never possibly get to the level of someone like you or Tenhundred, but hearing that honestly makes it seem more attainable to really be able to paint & draw what I imagine drawing. Loved the video, they always find a way to inspire me and make me want to make something cool!
Time + effort !!
Cool dude ! Keep on practicing and having fun ! ( especially on different mediums that helps alot to understand )
I love the last white/light strokes.. so satisfying to watch... it made the portrait pop
We better be getting a studio tour when you're done moving. :P
ohhhhh yeah
I found that the best way to keep yourself motivated while trying to learn how to draw or paint is to focus on small improvements. Small improvements give a lot of motivation to improve other aspects of your art skills. Gradually, those small improvements begin to add up to something bigger, which gives you even more motivation to continue.
watching someone with so much passion is sooo refreshing. i always leave feeling inspired to practice
Hey there, I appreciate your UA-cam video's so much. I started painting in 2015, started with watercolor, however now I only paint portraits in Oils. Your info is just great. Oh by the way I'm 72 yrs old and love to paint. thanks again
i've been following you for a year or so and have noticed your skin tones improving a lot, less cold toned pastiness in the highlighted areas especially. i love the soft edges of this one.
thank you for this comment! Trying to use less white and darken my lights!
@@slewp thanks for sharing your journey & commitment to your craft, it's inspirational to see you improve!
Wow dude! I started drawing over 50 years ago and I'm still not any good at portraits! Keep on keepin' on brother Slew!
I'm a newb to your channel, just discovered you today. My mom is a full time artist and I'm 27 and just discovered my interest in art as well and have been flexing my muscles lately, trying to see what I can do. Loved this portrait and am super glad to have found you!
the way it looked so much better than the original pic. amazing
Hey just an idea: What about painting an otherwordly fantasy character like the moon queen/nefeli in a realistic oil painting. This would be so awesome!
Thank you for inspiring even the older people in this country. Blessed are you with this talent!!!!
Nice video Slew - you got that nose all worked out, looking good! Love seeing this lady finished up!😀
It's so encouraging to hear about your art journey and see all the different projects you're taking on in an effort to improve your skills! I think the idea that our art needs to be super cohesive at the start of our careers is so stifling, it's nice to see someone break through that! I can't wait to see what the new studio looks like!
I have no idea about painting or drawing or anything like that, but fucking love watching these kinds of videos because it's mesmerizing seeing how the painting comes alive with the final details. Like seriously, I don't have a fucking clue how it takes 90% of the time invested to get a painting to look slightly good, and then the other 10% makes it look perfect.
That’s a beautiful portrait!! Improved on the original!
Hey SLEW great stuff man, time effort and practice are key.
Your work never fails to entertain, inspire and motivate. You have helped me get past my artistic block, push forward and start planting seeds.
I am now working on that long vision and dedicating myself more to my art-making, content creation and live streaming and loving every minute of it.
Keep up the inspiring work and i hope all your future seeds grow into beautiful trees.
Slew you brougth me to painting and It is starting to be really cool! Big Canvases are calling for me! Thanks for showing the way bother!
the quality of this channel is totally insane
Just like you, I am starting my painting career as a 20-year-old and looking at you, where you are now, I have high hopes and even more motivation to continue improving my painting skills.
I don't paint and I'm not an artist. I'll argue with anyone willing on subjectively what is art and was in not... what’s is an artist and what is not.
And then you watch this, and there's no words... there's just art... and an artist...
As someone who is pushing to learn art and drawing and painting, I really appreciate your videos and your input on painting and practice and the process. I’m learning to see the value in the process and the value in taking the time to learn. I feel less hung up about the end product than I ever did before. Your videos really do help and motivate me everyday and for some reason I find it valuable to hear from someone I’m same age with that’s on this art journey too, I feel like you’re very relatable to me and my art journey and journey in general... you’re just awesome, that’s all. So thank you Slew.
Nothing but love
Loooooove watching you work SLEW. Been watching religiously for about a year now and in my humble opinion, this is one of the most successful portraits you've shared. So cool to see you keep leveling up. And the production quality? forgetaboutit.
Love your videos. Always so spontaneous and honestly presented. I always learn and am inspired. Looking forward to seeing your new studio but will miss your current one.
Kid's got SKILLS. Keep it up man!
Wow amazing art painting my friend, hoping that i can draw like this.thank you for sharing ..
Putting in the work! That's really what its all about. Its a beautiful thing when all that hard work starts to bear fruit! Thanks for the inspiration!!!
I did painting when I was in my 10th grade(2012) and that was actually a project for my art subject. That was the time I learnt that I can paint and 4 years later (2016) I also learn how to draw a realistic portrait and i'm more focus on it for now but i'm actually hoping that I can paint back again because it really gives me life.. thank you SLEW for sharing this wonderful painting of yours.
These painting sessions are the best. Followed by the sessions where you talk about the business side of the Slewniverse.
Really love watching your videos. You have such a great approach. I just started picking up oil painting six months ago and your videos have helped a ton. I appreciate all of the tips can't wait for more. Thanks for the guidance.
This is an awesome painting! One thing I recommend that I like to do when I paint is paint proportions and then eyes nose and mouth, doing the harder stuff first helps me out a lot
I love watching you paint ,your thoughts and so on . I think you can teach some techniques and a process but at the end it’s sort of like you can’t teach someone how to think . Just copy what you see for realism or do whatever you like for your own style ,after learning the basics it’s up to the artist to decide what they want to paint . .. ❤️🇦🇺❤️✌🏿✌🏻✌🏾✌️
Hey, I am a rather new subscriber, I have enjoyed watching your videos and I think this is the first time I have seen you start without working on a bought canvas. I want to caution you to always prepare your surface! You may never plan on keeping a study or practice painting. Once you corrupt the surface with paint getting your gesso or other surface preparation to stick long term is not easy. You don’t know how crushing it feels when a customer brings back a piece of art that is pealing away from itself and they want it fixed ! They can get quite angry! I have worked as an Artist for over 30 years and I have experienced so many different ways of creating revenue. If you want to keep your reputation and be truthful in your art life. Treat your customers fair. Even when creating a throwaway piece start like it will be a masterpiece of your best work. You can always paint over a well prepared surface, Wood panel or canvas. I hope that you will consider this comment helpful knowledge not a slur or criticism of your work. You are truly inspirational and so generous with your time and knowledge, I am continually amazed at how many wonderful artists show their creations on UA-cam. You do a great job. Take care and be safe out there!
All these panels have two layers of gesso and a oil ground layer on top. Thanks for the comment!
@@slewp I guess I did not pay enough attention, I did not see that. I only saw you painting on the ground? It looked just like you were painting on bare wood! Thanks for the reply.
Every upload feels more cinematic than the one before. You're killing it with the cinematography!
WOW, Great video, on all levels. Thanks Slew!
Nice portrait bro! I can definitely see your progress! Keep on making art
I love your oil portraits!! They get better and better, i can't wait to see what you can achieve in a year or so!
Hey SLEW nice work man! I have been watching the journey and enjoy your content. Really nice result on this one and I appreciate your demonstrations. Thanks bg
I really enjoy watching your videos🤗
Very nice! Thanks for sharing! May I suggest finding some blues and greens in the shadow areas in the future? It will add interest and depth.
Amazing❣️👏 I'm inspired new fan here. Thank you for sharing. Take care
This portrait is awesome Slew!! Love watching your paintings come to life and hearing you talk about the process! I'm admired by your hard work and perseverance, keep it up & thanks for inspiring me and thousands of other young creatives!
Amazing, great portrait! You are able to keep working at it and making it really good. Whereas I work to a certain point and stop. I'm going to do as you and let it sit for a day or whatever and come back to it. Thank you! Finished painting Nice!
Hi! Beautiful artwork, I would move the ear up a tiny bit but still gorgeous skin tones
Beautiful work Slew 🤘🤘🤘
I just want yall to know that i absolutely love this video, the vibes are exceptional
Love watching your vids, your talent is incredible ✨
Loved this piece! I love the texture and how beautiful she looks. Very inspiring (:
Cool video! I suggest you to have a look at the grisaille technique, try to make the light come from below:)
minor critique: relative distance of the nose tip to the edge of the face is causing the expression to be viewed more towards the camera (it will also cause minor crunching/compression of details if everything else is kept relative to the image as well giving a subtle off-kilter look) also the cheekbone looked a little too sharp on that edge and a bit high
Critique here: I think you do a good job creating the shadow shapes but then ( at around 5:07) you fill in the light shapes with a value that is almost white. It is better to start with an average light color that is more of a midtone and then work your way up to lighter values based on the angle to the light source. Maybe even mess with the levels of the reference to see the small gradients. The eye is much more sensitive to small value shifts on the light side than it is in the shadows. You could even try to challenge yourself by doing a painting that is more softly evenly light so you won't be able to rely on shadow shapes alone to convey the form. Keep up the good work!
thanks! Yes i do start a little too white sometimes. Im working on it! Also sometimes boost the contrast and brightness of the video so may seem whiter and brighter than the actual painting (a stylistic video choice) Thanks for the feedback
gorgeous portrait, Slew! i admire your practice and the way your express your thought process. you really inspire me to try painting 😍
Love this portrait! So much flavour 💥
Big love man. Super inspiring
Happy for yah slew
Awesome man! Very inspiring .

You sir are a god and inspire me all the time ❤️🤘
I'd love to see the model see the painting, think she'd love it.
Beautiful!!!
This is a great portrait. It is nice to see you evolve...
The portrait turned out great, I love it!!
Legit all I watch is you, ten hundred, and Vexx. Much love from your friendly tattoo apprentice from Illinois!
YOU sound so much more confident compared to 6-8 months ago!
You are an amazing artist, love the painting , thanks for sharing, you are a great artist ❤️
those lighting choices got me all warm and fuzzy inside!! Also GREAT video bro!!!
Es tío es muy bueno en lo que hace.
hey just wanted to say that u're amazing! That was really inspiring for me, as I'm a beginner in oil painting, and it was really nice to see all that process and hear about how you started as well :)
So cool! Have you ever considered applying for Portrait Artist of the Year? I would love to see you on the show, if that is even possible for Americans.
Hey slew good journey nice video and damp good content your on the way man see you in new York some day 👍
i like your art studio
I've been loving the lightning lately.
Love it! I learn so much about painting. Just gotta get brave and try.
True passion 🔥
You should paint an old bloke, it improves accuracy and detail by a lot.
I miss your voice slew ❤️
This is gorgeous!!! The biggest mistake in portraits is the size of the eyes and the angle of the background eye in a 3/4 portrait.
Like you said, I think the eyes are mildly enlarged. I don't think the lips or nose are! Other than that, I think making that left side of her face smaller, bringing it closer to the eye, would make it more realistic.
I love the color palate!!!
This shadow and light are insane. Dude I'm far away from portrait paintings but I think that ear should be a bit upper than it is on the painting
WOW. Amazing portrait slew! Kinda wanna try using oils now.
Vc e maravilhoso PARABÉNS
Amazing video!!
ur fucin awesome man, im speechless
Very nice I hope some day I can do that same you !!
