    I have an Allant+ and it is a lot of fun. If you’ve ridden a regular bike a lot, you have your average days and some where you feel strong and fast and can go all day. An eBike will deliver that great feeling everyday. It can be exhilarating and relaxing. But...
    I find it to be prohibitively heavy so traveling with it is difficult. If you’re going to drive to a path or a rail trail you should consider a hitch-mounted, tray-style carrier which is a significant cost above the bike. If you want to keep that exhilarating, relaxing feeling don’t let the the battery to fall below 4% where the motor shuts off. Given the weight and being accustomed to speed this will feel sluggish and exhausting. Getting to 4% is easier than you think. It’s a lot like driving a car with a broken gas gauge because wind and terrain greatly affect battery consumption. You could think you’ve got range but climb and watch your estimate fall. I was disappointed to find the Allant didn’t have a throttle to help you start from zero. That is helpful when you’re trying to get the bike going with traffic behind you and that I have found on lower-end bikes. The pedal assist is spot on but you need rotation for it to kick in and it takes some effort unless you’re in a easy gear which isn’t likely because the assist feature reduces your focus on shifting. Last, be careful out there on the roads. Seems simple but you’re likely riding faster than ever and motorists could underestimate your speed. This is especially true when you are overtaken by a driver intending to turn across your path or thinks it’s safe to exit a parking lot into your travel lane.
    Overall, I recommend it because you can manage the cautions I’ve stated and get great joy out of cycling. It’s a great way to get out and get exercise, relax and explore. I think these bikes are fantastic for older riders who may think their cycling days are behind them, for all riders who want to blend exercise and leisure, for riders wanting to go out with stronger friends. Ride safe.

      If you don't shift gears you're gonna wear out the gears too early and need to replace with new ones after about 1500 km.They are not cheap. If you really, really, really don't want to start low then start in eco to not be too aggressive on the gears. Play a bit more around with the start up. Starting low will become easier. It's also quick to go to eight to 10 when you get used to it.

    What was the thinking behind renaming the Super Commuter to the Allant? SC is a more descriptive name for customers to understand

    • @trekbikes
      @trekbikes  5 років тому +7

      The Allant was actually a model named for a previous commuter and a model we share in the EU, so we wanted to unify the name

      gravedoja Speed limit is your local regulations, nothing to do with the product itself. So what’s your point?

    • @gravedoja
      @gravedoja 5 років тому

      Point is ebikes need to be unrestricted to really tempt people over who wouldn't normally consider using one especially considering the prices of them, you could make the de restricted ones have a registration plate or something. In all other respects the new bike isn't different enough to warrant a name change in my opinion.

    If only, only, only there would be a regular bike rack was on it to begin with and the smart system could replace the system 2 with a software installation the price would have been perfect. If riding in the winter the tires needs a change. Otherwise it skids too much.

    I am sorry. I am sure it is a good bike. And looks are different for everyone. But this is horrible. The old super commuter 8+ was beautiful - a beautiful bibcycle with perfect performance for commuters. Slim (still a big bike compared to a roadie) and fast. If you loved riding road and mtb bikes- the super commuter 8+s was the perfect commuter bike for bike lovers for a reasonable price. But this is...no idea. never ever gonna buy this - and I hope no one will. Looks like an overpriced motorcycle with too many technical shit (who needs extra navigation when everyone got a smartphone - especailly for commuting?) for people who never rode a bike and wanna feel good about what they bought. Most companies are following some trends. I was happy that you did not and went an individual way with the super commuter 8+s. not this integrated battery shit which looks like the bike just got fat - and horrible to take into the office. Dynamical cycling and a really nice bike with the perfect amount of technique necessary for a good bike with high performance. This is....just fat, overpriced and stuffed with features no bicycle lover will ever need. Sorry Trek - I thought you where better :(
