I loved my old REL T5 paired with some B&W 606 bookshelf speakers before the amp kicked the bucket two years ago. It really did make the small speakers feel large and warm. Unfortunately REL wanted $400 to repair it. That’s a bit steep for a $600 speaker. Now I’m trying to debate on which new TX model I want for a large open concept house. Living/dining/kitchen all open. 2 T5X or one T9X? Or could I get away with just 1 T7X and save some $$$ to go toward a new preamp? Mostly music but will watch movies. It’s no theater room acoustics by any means.

Hello! What is better for music 2xT9 (10'' 2x300W = 1 10'' 600W?) or 1xS812 (12'' 800W) ??? 2x10'' vs. 1x12'' ??? (Not 1xS510 is 500W, and 2xT9 2x300W plus two channels and A\B class). Or 2xREL S5 ? (2x12'' 2x500W) How much difference does the sound between the S5 and S812? If you don't count the volume? The price differs more than twice. Or 2xCanton Power Sub 12 ??? (2x300W vs 1xS812 800W) price 4x but what quality of bass? 🤔 2xT9x (10'' 300W A\B) vs 2xS5 (12'' 500W D) at the same cost ??? 🤔🤔 But here's the question: does it make sense to have two subwoofers if the crossover frequency is 40 Hz (after all, frequencies below 37 Hz are not localized by ear)? And if the crossover is set higher, how much better will the sound be in stereo? 🤔🤔🤔
I still get confused with the phase switch on my t5i. It wouldn't take much. What would you put the phase switch at 0 or 180. I dont notice a difference?

Looks to me more like a refresh, for 30% more, rather than a major upgrade from the Ti line. I am very happy with my two T9i and if I ever upgrade I will go to the S510.
Hmm interesting point. I home demo’d the t9i and S3 SHO a few years ago and I was really torn between them even if we ignore the price difference. I eventually went for the s3 because for movies it was easier to integrate and if I’m honest I kinda felt if it cost more it should be better and I was aware it measured better. BUT…for music I think I actually preferred the t9i. It had a more organic nature and felt like it bounced along with the music really well. The s3 is quite dry in comparison and part of me wishes I’d chosen the t9i instead.
Another reviewer on UA-cam compared the T9X to the T9I and said sonically they could not tell them apart. As others have commented, many factors have caused huge inflation. Whether that's 30% or whether that's 15% and REL just want to increase their profit margin, only REL knows.

I have the Spendor D7.2’s with one T7i and at 15 clicks? When watching REL video’s recommended clicks was 15 plus’s or minus 3 clicks. Mine are on 12 to 15. ???? Agreed great honest review 👍🏻
What about their grounding issues? These amps never ground properly with the high pass. I’ve gone through three before giving up and selecting a better architected board designer.have they fixed this or is it more of the usual?
You forgot about Rel's problem with way to many logos. Just can't deal with it for the money you have to pay for this bass speaker. Wish they made more actual subwoofers, unless you go up to the s812, you just cannot get the proper low output.
Why does it feel like the sub has dulled the sound? My s510 is not sounding good. Beyond 9, its just a thuddy mess. Seems to be straining even at very moderate levels. But its the dulling of the sound i dont like. Perhaps speaker makers get it right the first time?
@@teknolojigundemi subwoofer setup is a very complex topic and a lot of people don't understand it and often it is simplified but that doesn't give people enough info. Trying to setup subs purely by ear is a serious challenge- not that difficult to get ok to good results but really great results is much more challenging
According to Rel, simply placing the sub in the corner of the room should be optimal. I have a pair of T9i's, both placed in the corner of the wall where the speakers are and I have great results, good integration with great soundstage
@@PursuitPerfectSystem their speakers are more for cinema but amazing in all areas, very fast and agile. The subs maybe leans a bit more towards music than movies. :)
Terry, if companies are using UA-cam to advertise their products that means that they are saving tons of money by n to advertising elsewhere. If this is the case shouldn't the price of these products be discounted?
I can see your point :) I did think this video is a little too product focused and less review than I normally would make it but this is the first time I have had a product before launch so explaining what it is in a bit more detail seemed to make sense for this situation.
@@PursuitPerfectSystem Great video as always. I do notice though how quickly retailers sell out of product soon after a review, especially if it is a "highly recommended" product. I bring this topic up because I own several REL subs and personally think they are great musical subs. I just want more of them at discounted prices!
That is me being honest that I didn't have the subwoofer 100% perfectly integrated where the subwoofer completely disappears which is a serious challenge, and its very difficult to get it perfect with any subwoofer, especially a single one
@@PursuitPerfectSystem ok great thanks. I heard the rel tx9 the other day, was good. Im in medium sized roon so will be goi g for the tx7 if i go rel, but im also looking at jl audio, and Arendal. Its for music only, all genres....drum and bass to jazz. Any recommendations?
Terry, you mentioned that you calibrated 3 RELs (2 S812, 1 S/510) for someone. Was it for a 3D System? Meaning was the S/510 connected to the Center Channel?
No it wasnt setup like that, I still always setup home cinema traditional style - using subs as LFE and then crossed over and integrated properly is my thing :) Nothing wrong with going high level to the speakers
I found the T9/x lacking in most uses and returned it. In my room and my system, it didn't do it for me. On some tracks it sounded good, some others where I knew there was some base notes, it just didn't deliver. It is a small box and only does 27HZ, and fit/finish/looks are great, but there's far better subs for that $ in my view. It may still be a good choice for those with limited space, small rooms, etc, was not the fight fit for me. My beloved Velodyne HGS 12 is out for repair so decided to try some new subs. So far, Velodyne still my favorite, and to be fair, was 2k 20 years ago and still one of best subs out there. They have something of a cult following. I am trying a Rythmik FM8 now and like it much more than the Rel, and it's less $ to boot.
If your looking for a big output subwoofer for very deep bass this is not designed for that, and 27hz is very optimistic for this sub- its looking to be very fast above that
I’ve been a REL customer for 15 years now, but I have to say I’m quite disappointed with this new X series. Looking at the sheets, they are effectively charging 30% more for “round corners” as every other spec is in line with the T/9i. I don’t doubt the sub may be marginally better than the previous version, but to justify a 30% bump in price I expect a lot more from REL...
If the sub delivers faster, tighter and more punchy bass you cant correlate that to specs but it doesn't mean its not a significant improvement -I think its worth considering that
Don’t get me wrong, I’ve been around long enough to know that specs are not everything (wouldn’t have bought my RELs otherwise), but knowing how good the T9i is, I doubt the T9x provides enough of an improvement (within the same spec range) to justify the 30% bump in price. I’m sure it’s better than the T9i, but is it enough to warrant the price hike? Anyway, I’m just blowing smoke out of my a** because I haven’t really heard it perform live, so for the moment, I’ll take your word for it. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with the community.
The last model came out 5 years ago and since then inflation has occurred, material costs have increased, labor costs have increased. It’s not just REL. it’s happening to every industry. Like everyone else they had to make a choice. Keep great quality and increase the price, or lower the quality to maintain a lower price. I’m always in favor of not cheaping out.
I have a *painfully* stupid question -- so painfully stupid that the most just and deserved response would surely be, "You mean you can't google that?" Here goes: Most subwoofers have a single RCA input jack (among other connection options), and many amps have an output jack labeled "Sub Out" or words to that effect. Is that connection attenuated from the preamp stage of the amp, or is it full line-level and un-attenuated? The reason I ask, most subwoofers also have some sort of volume adjustment, but I can't seem to figure out how a person would ensure that the subwoofer output level was well-matched to the rest of the system. It seems like either you would have to be getting up from the couch constantly to adjust the subwoofer manually, or, if the connection is attenuated by the main system's volume pot, then you'd have to guess where to set the volume on the sub, in order to get a good match.
That is exactly how it works the master volume of the amplifier also attenuates the subwoofer output too. There are some exceptions to this but most work like this
@@PursuitPerfectSystem Seems like that initial volume setting on the actual subwoofer would be extremely tricky to get right -- unless the subwoofer-in connection defeats that?
@@CinemaDemocratica it is tricky and takes some time as subwoofer setup also factors in timing phase and frequency but it’s doable and easier with newer subs as they are much better
Nah mine is a macro waist line... lol 😝 But clearly the desktop has become the major new private work space and a sub fits that bill, as do desktop speakers
I'm sure it's a nice subwoofer, but it's really too bad there isn't a visible logo so that we could tell what brand it was 😅 I mean, come on... 4 per foot x 4 feet, that's 16 before you even get to the cabinet. 1 on the woofer itself 1 on top of the cabinet 1 on the amp plate. 1 on the passive radiator 20 logos!
They are probably stainless steel screws for corrosion resistance. You can always replace them with Black Oxide steel or even Black chrome if you can find them. Look around. If you do find a replacement set, be sure to use a Torque screwdriver, replace one or two at a time, then tighten in a cross sequence incrementally.
you’re a professional tester yet you can’t come out and say that this subwoofer sucks! Oh my recording gear is bad oh I couldn’t position it properly come on mate man up!
I use professional grade recording equipment that cost me around 5 grand, so far from sucking but still have you tried to record properly setup subwoofer bass at 90db+ listening levels. How many other channels even do any sound recordings - please consider the larger picture before complaining.

@@johnlim7720 I have 2 PB2000s so you will have a comparable set up. Excellent for movies. Enjoy!
I have T9 and love it. Could you explain subwoofer placements and connection types at Home cinema and music ( 1 or more)
REL make a lot of videos for subwoofer connections - might be an idea to look at their Facebook page
@@PursuitPerfectSystem thanks for reply. I asked this in general. Not only for REL.(btw English not my native language)
Please review Arendal Subs, they are among the best subs on the market
I am looking at some of their speakers soon so we can go from there :)
I just want more of them at discounted prices!
haha :)
You say "mostly transparent".... what did you mean by this ?
That is me being honest that I didn't have the subwoofer 100% perfectly integrated where the subwoofer completely disappears which is a serious challenge, and its very difficult to get it perfect with any subwoofer, especially a single one
@@PursuitPerfectSystem ok great thanks. I heard the rel tx9 the other day, was good. Im in medium sized roon so will be goi g for the tx7 if i go rel, but im also looking at jl audio, and Arendal. Its for music only, all genres....drum and bass to jazz. Any recommendations?
I am talking about micro plastic.
:)
Interesting LOGO they use.
I have a pair of Wilson Audio Sabrina Xs would add a pair of T9/x subwoofers
Terry, you mentioned that you calibrated 3 RELs (2 S812, 1 S/510) for someone. Was it for a 3D System? Meaning was the S/510 connected to the Center Channel?
No it wasnt setup like that, I still always setup home cinema traditional style - using subs as LFE and then crossed over and integrated properly is my thing :)
Nothing wrong with going high level to the speakers
Thanks
Go the 12 at this price, the T9i just doesn’t extend low enough
that is the problem with almost all of their bass speakers, only a few of the REL speakers are even subwoofers!
Ever heard of inflation
I have a *painfully* stupid question -- so painfully stupid that the most just and deserved response would surely be, "You mean you can't google that?"
Here goes:
Most subwoofers have a single RCA input jack (among other connection options), and many amps have an output jack labeled "Sub Out" or words to that effect.
I'm not sure I'll be able to remember the Rel logo.
Heard on spare changes channel you are into carp fishing, think you would well review fishing gear also, maybe a dual channel?
I was big into carp fishing but I havent been for years as I dont have the time anymore. I work 7 days a week at the minute
Meglio t9x o bk xxls400?
I like Led Zeppelin The Immigrant song 🔨 ⚡️ with these exact subs
Nice :)
Nah mine is a macro waist line... lol 😝
But clearly the desktop has become the major new private work space and a sub fits that bill, as do desktop speakers
Why would you have been hesitant?
I'm sure it's a nice subwoofer, but it's really too bad there isn't a visible logo so that we could tell what brand it was 😅
I mean, come on...
4 per foot x 4 feet, that's 16 before you even get to the cabinet.
1 on the woofer itself
1 on top of the cabinet
1 on the amp plate.
1 on the passive radiator
20 logos!
Wish Rel would stop using silver screws on their subs ... Just use black ones .... Go figure 😉
I haven't heard or seen anything about the new line of subs that would make anyone want to jump and upgrade from thier Ti series.
The T9X stands for Extra. The T9i stands for Inches. And that’s why the T9i suits me so well! 🤣🤣🤣
haha I was going to say Jim how do I get extra inches
If the I stands for inches and the T9 uses the same size..........go watch the Rel channel lol
@@shaundavidssd I think he was referring to having other "inches" as a joke
The X stands for extra but the initial for extra is E.
Not when you spell it like this "XTRA" :)
@@PursuitPerfectSystem But that's not how it's spelled.
What about XXL ?

you’re a professional tester yet you can’t come out and say that this subwoofer sucks!
Did you check one in your system?
so un-British to plaster a product allover with logos, it looks taky
that royale emblem is a bit british though
