- I got to sit down with one of my favorite creators to chat about my FAVORITE movie last year, Academy Award Winner Everything Everywhere All at Once. Freddie Wong is a the perfect person to break down this strange genre-bending masterpiece that The Daniels created.

Releasing this just as the film won one Oscar was bold. But I love the confidence!
What do you mean?
@@sixtynine2856 In the video he says it's an academy award winning film. He must have filmed the intro days/weeks/months beforehand. He then released the video as soon as that statement was true with the award for actor in a supporting role, before it was even announced as best picture.
Man I feel so validated, sorry for making this about me but I remembered the time I showed Swiss army man to a couple of friends. I was hyped because I loved that movie so much I had to share it. They ditched it halfway through and said that it was weird. "Is something interesting gonna happen soon or what?". I thought man, maybe my taste is garbage and I embarrassed myself. I also loved EEAAO but most people just say they don't get it or that it's weird and seeing them win 7 Oscars made me so happy. I hope they keep making movies because I'm in love with them.
Your on the right track. They're great!
I think one meta-genre I enjoy is just people geeking out over something they love. And I think that bypasses/overrides many topics that I'd otherwise not be interested in.
So what I'm learning from this video is, be a little weirdo and keep geeking out, haha
And the favorite movie of the EEAAO Directors the Daniels? 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotlight Mind' (fantastic film too!)
Love this. Hearing from different artists on the art they partake in but also artists on other art is great! " Genre Dubstep"
Time is a weird soup, eternal sunshine of the Spotless Mind came out in 2004, and everything everywhere all at once 2022, a good 18 year between them, time is a wild trip.
There are like two dozen amazing perspective changers in this that are each worth a whole evening of "staring at the ceiling" time... so good! Definitely watching again. And, man, even though it's a different thing, it makes me miss Dead Wax a lot.
It always takes me back seeing Freddie Wong on any YT video. 😍😊
Really great discussion, thank you!
Loved this!
Awesome conversation between 2 awesome legendary peopz'
Even in the thumbnail, you guys actually look like the Daniels !
i am now deep in the jack conte iceberg / rabbit hole
Wonderful! A tremendous conversation -- thank you Freddie and Jack! I can so relate to your weirdo troll guy, living beyond the algorithm.
Bro i got the exact same feeling when whatching eeaao and enternal sunshine.
Like I just remembered being wowed by the creativity, like they opened a new door to filmmaking.
This is such a great discussion.
Louis Cole does indeed rule. Amazing live too!
I'm here for the title!
Great
26:33 i will take this as permission to go full weirdo. watch out, here I come
imo, I'm convinced Freddie Wong/Corridor influenced some of the vfx/choreography. Of course, the movie clearly takes inspiration from a huge assortment of places, and it also overflows with originality, but I can't help but feel like Psychedelic Warfare or Corridor Digital's shoot your friends had some kinda influence on a generation of vfx artists who are working on projects like Everything Everywhere.
The discussion around the 15 min mark also reminds me of Peacemaker. John Cena isn't afraid to make his character to be the butt of all the jokes and act really stupid. It's what makes the show and the character work. No one would want to watch Peacemaker do things that fulfills revenge fantasy of teenage boys.
Jimmy's brother is so cool
Eternal Sunshine was 2004! 18 year before Everything Everywhere...not 10.
Isn't it strange to be the same age as old people!?
May you step on a Lego when you get up to take your 2:00 AM pee tonight!
8 years off is a bit egregious.
@@sixtynine2856 I'm old now too, totally understand the time warp.
Sorry to be off topic, but did you voice the teenage boys in Sims 2??
mr natural
Great interview! What a really cool opportunity to watch 2 of my favorite creators.
Freddie... much love but please shave the "beard"!
“Movie version of dubstep”
I didn't think it was _that_ good, but i mean, okay.
The sausage finger sexy times kind of brought it down a bit for me tbh
At the same time as I get where the discussion here is coming from, I'm so sick of everyone wanting to be completely original. I can't listen to a band without them completely changing direction after a single album because now the "micro-genre is done". If it's truly remix culture and on the shoulders of giants, the originality is a mirage you're chasing anyways.
Both of these things are terrible so sure why not.
