I had mine for over 20 years now. If small stems fall to the ground, you are probably not watering enough. Watering once a week is usually right unless the plant does not get enough light, like during the winter months were you can water only once a month. To propagate, you need to cut a fairly big stem from the plant and stick it back in the soil. Wait until it is possible to cut 5 inches stems off the plant. Smaller stems dont seem to have a very good survival rate. If the stem or branch is brownish or looks like bark, then it should survive.

That's so helpful, thank you! I've had mine about five years and it's quite large so I want to propagate for my best friend who wants one too but wasn't sure exactly where to cut.

I keep the thing in direct light with other succulents. Water it twice a week and it grows like crazy compared to some of my other succs. It is in a cactus soil that I added 50% perlite to.

I also have had one for almost 2 years. I didn't know what it was when I bought it but then after doing some research I realized that it was Dancing Bones. It bloomed for me last year. It had tiny white flowers. Not a prolific grower by any means, but I still enjoy it in a hanging planter.

I bought mine from a CVS several years ago because it looked so cool. I didn't know what it was until recently. I lucked out because I put it in my kitchen window which is frosted and does not get an extreme amount of light. The fact that it's called dancing bones makes me like it even more!

These videos are great and share SUCH a wealth of knowledge. I would LOVE to see a collaboration video with Amanda aka Planterina! (She’s in NY as well)

I'm starting to get into Rhipsalis a bit more, I only have two so far, my Rhipsalis Cereuscula is similar looking to this one, and I have had this particular one for over 16 years, maybe closer to twenty, it started as really small and now it's not huge ,but a really nice size. Thanks again Summer this series and channel are a fountain of information.

Ooo, it an idea now for a piece of beach driftwood that I have. There is a lot of salt content that has been washed off, but maybe a little bit wouldn't hurt this. I only live in a north-facing-only apartment light wise and is probably one of the most low-light units one can find. On top of that, I'm in a northern climate in Canada, in Vancouver, BC. Someone I do manage to keep a lot of low-light plants indoors and out, as well as aquatic gardens/planted tanks. If you are interested in doing a home tour out here, please feel free to let me know!

Thanks Summer ~ you've just answered my question as to whether the Hatioras are related to Rhipsalis. The interesting variation you found hints that there may have been some fairly recent past cross pollination/atavistic reversion? It's always fascinating when plants surprise us and do their own thing! I find my Hatiora salicornioides quite temperamental ~ some years it gains that original plump lighter green look, and then sometimes displays that dehydrated darker green colour. Generally, I find they fare better if given a shaded outdoor airing in the more clement months.

I have mine for 10 months. It's in my terrace and I water it once weekly and it receives western full sun from 2pm on (here in the Caribbean). I do have it in 1/3 of each: peat, sand, & pearlite.

Yes!! I love this plant!!!💚 I have had mine for about two years in a western window, and it’s been growing wonderfully!!! Would my plant do better in a different light? Should I still try moving it? Also, when I first bought mine, it had some furry stems as well, but those died off :(
Edit: Does yours have yellow flowers? That’s what mine has.

Hi Summer. I aquired an old dancing bones cactus and it is very yellow with very woody stems. I don't know if it is healthy but I would like to propogate some of it and don't know how? Are you able to give me some hints please? tia

Hi Summer! So I know this is completely unrelated but I'm having some troubles with my calathea ornata and I wanted to know if you can help me 😊 so I've had it for about 6 months know and the first two new leaves that popped out where completely normal but now every time a new leave forms it has really thin borders that eventually curl and get brown. The old leaves are completely normal it's just the new ones. I water it with aquarium water so I know it does not have chlorine on it. Also I live in a tropical country so the humidity here is always 60% or above. I have two other calatheas that I water with the same water and are completely normal 😭 I really don't know what the issue could be

hi summerrayne, do you know what your general humidity is in your home? do you keep track of that?

You can buy a cheap hygrometer online for less than 5 dollars but there are also more pricey ones as well.

Just cut off a 3" tall bunch and put in a glass of water. Roots appear and it is ready for potting!
