Bentley Flying Spur vs Iceland: can you run a £155k luxury car on water, straw and volcanos?
Вставка
- Опубліковано 4 жов 2024
- The irony of taking a big, purple £155k Bentley Flying Spur Hybrid to Iceland to talk about the environment isn’t lost on us. But there is a point to be made. As Top Gear Magazine’s Ollie Marriage tries to demonstrate by crossing Iceland in a luxury car by using nothing more than water, straw and volcanos to power it.

I've never seen a Top Gear video where there were so many good shots worthy of a screenshot for a wallpaper. Iceland is beautiful and the cameraman just NAILED it. The only other place close enough in beauty was when the original trio went to Argentina.
grand tour needs to poach cinematographers and cameramen from top gear. period!!!
Absolutely agree with this statement...... Thought exactly the same, unbelievable scenery and shot selection
@@ramchaitanya572 the BBC have always had unbelievable camera work.
Singer dls. That also
The V12 Vantage review was another one where the camera and production team nailed it.
Can we just appreciate how beautifully this video is color graded🖤
I was thinking the exact same thing. The color grading in my videos needs a lot of work.
This video has epic colors wirh fantastic landscapes and shots.
Much respect. 💪🔥
What hollywood thinks mexico looks like
i stay cuz of the grade
Yes beautiful colors. Stunning landscapes.
Bentley colors go from blue to purple, with all kind of shades in between. In that matter, the car color is inconsistent throughout the video. That makes it a little confusing, on which exact color this car is, and how it really looks on the road. So beautiful shots but does not help to choose the right color for personal Bentley.
The purple on that Bentley and Iceland’s scenery are both stunning
1:14 Starts the journey moving forward at 78mph
11:04 Returns home moving in reverse at 78mph 🙃
Good eye - impressive!
Hahaha, nice catch
I already want to go to Iceland but after watching this I now REALLY want to go to Iceland. What a stunning place.
Iceland is so stunning I almost forgot to look at the car!
Honestly, ever since you-know-who was sacked from the programme, I’ve never even bothered watching the new Top Gear. Clicked on this, and I was pleasantly surprised. Sure, it’s not as funny or exciting as the old one... but this is a properly good educational programme. I quite like it. 👍
I agree, It’s a lot more of a car show now, it will never be as popular as the original trio because it’s not as entertaining for non-car people, but it’s still a proper car show.
I think after six years, they’re finally starting to get the hang of doing Top Gear without CH&M.
Na
@@simonburkeisable That's all we need....no silly antics.....
Except he doesn’t even know what the mpg of the other engine variants of this car is?
He says “I can’t remember the last time a Bentley got 28mpg”
Yet the W12 and V8 variants both do this on long journeys with ease.
Leaving the fuelcap hanging on the paint hurts too see😂
I came here to say this, made me cringe
It gave me an aneurysm.
I died a little inside when I saw that 😂😭 that paint is probably a $10k option lol
Surely they've wrapped it in protective film? Especially if they know they were going to iceland
@@js00065 fair.
spec on that flying spur is amazing. would be such a hard choice between that or a new RR. but i guess if you can afford one you can probably get both
This car is far more attractive looking then a rolls Royce in my opinion.
New RR belongs in a Lincoln showroom. Long live the l332 autobiography. Everything after that just seemed to be disproportionate. IMO.
I think the new flying spur makes you feel less old than RR, even so when compared to the ghost. But in my mind, a high-end luxury sedan should at least have a V8. Or a V8 plug-in hybrid in this case
Good lord. The scenery. Absolutely breathtaking.
I don’t know what’s more epic, the spec on the Bentley or the scenery. Beautiful.
its not even close, the scenery >>>>>>>>> the car.
insanely beautiful
He even did Not dare to visit Landmanna lauga, or to cross contry via Sprengisandur; therefore you need from South Side a Landrover for 9 times crossing deep creeks... The true Biotope for this car is the Autobahn.
That colour is absolutely stunning!!!
Harry from harry's garage does 27.2mpg from a W12 while you do 28 from a v6 hybrid. You oughta do better ollie. Get the w12. Long live the w12. 😁
What a great looking motor and the colour 👌🏾
cinematics on this video were next level. Way to go top gear !
More of an Ad for Iceland then Bentley lol
Bloody brilliant cinematography gents. Probably the best TG vid since Clarkson did a piece on the V12 Vantage a few years back - he didn’t say much in that vid, just let the images and the sound of that V12 do the talking. My fav TG vid from those times.
As an Icelander, it warms my heart seeing all the comments about my country.
❤🇮🇸❤
Aww man, it hurt to watch him hang the metal gas cap against the body. 🤦🏼♂️
The cinematography in this is just stunning.
Everything fits together so well, and that's the magic of TG
Best top gear and national geo collab ever lol
I don’t understand the point. I guess. My 2000 BMW 750iL has averaged many times across the state of Wy. on I-80 22mpg at a speed limit of 80mph. 25 gallon fuel tank means about 550 miles so I easily could drive that route with no stops from a full tank. If I drove at your indicated speed limit of roughly 55mph/90km my indicated fuel consumption is 29.3mpg giving me a range of 732.5 miles. Putting the 21 year newer Bentley to shame in every way. Before the environmentalist cry foul about pollution they need to be reminded that my 21 year older BMW was rated ultra low emission vehicle in 2000 by the state of Ca. So as I stated previously I don’t understand the point of the Bentley. I think this Hybrid isn’t the biscuits for your tea.
The Bentley is actually bigger/heavier than your bmw7 series, also that synthetic fuel is slightly less energy dense than normal petrol…….
Wonderful landscapes made this vid. Loved the car.
Video quality is very good. Music is also very good. Piece of art.
Bentley should be leading the way and doing better than 28 mpg, drive it through a shit whole like Alum Rock, Birmingham you'll appreciate the inside more :)
Remember, this is 28 miles per gallon of "straw". Petrol is more energy dense so the actual mpg (from petrol) will be substantially higher.
This was fantastic. Would love to see the extended Director's Cut with more footage. Could watch this for hours...days...weeks!
As usual BBC have stunning filming.... But not too sure how the 28mpg is calculated? As 80 litres would have been sufficient fuel for the journey. However, who drives a Bentley for its mpg figures? As a Hybrid, I think it is just a temporary stop-gap. Bentley should have gone further on the EV side.
Stunning. The car. The scenery. The colours.
I realise that this video is supposed to mainly about the Bentley, but Iceland's stunning scenery is the winner here........simply breathtaking & congratulations to the camera crew who captured these wonderful images for us to enjoy. 👍🔥👍
good lord, the cable behind the scenery, breathtaking.
Just wanted to say that Harry Metcalf also has a Bentley vid on today and also managed the same mpg on a cruise but in the W12 Conti Speed with 650bhp.
This is the most beautiful sedan I’ve seen in my life. The proportions and angles are breathtaking. The exterior and interior specs are perfect.
Did he really just leave the metal fuel cap hanging on the paint.. other than that though, this is beautifully shot!
After watching this video...
I want a flying spur and...
I want to go to Island 😭
Flying Spur is a good looking bentley and would love to see it in fh5
If only FH5 did car and paint rendering better.
Absolutely gorgeous car and place with breathtaking scenery
Probably the best looking film you guys have done for the 'Tubes. Kudos to the DOP, drone operator, and whoever graded it.
Bio fuels are harsh on seals. As in rubber seals not the pequin eaters.
Forget dinosaurs this big purple Bentley runs on baby seals lol
Props to the photographer - bloody gorgeous :)
this has to be the best video top gear has produced in a longgggg time
BBC's cinematography is still as great as ever
After years of watching many videos and movies, I can truly call the editing and scenery a masterpiece…
O9
Cinematography is just stunning in this vid!
I want to drive there now .... my word what a stunning country !!!
It's a disingenuous loophole car, made to reduce Bentley's fleet average CO2 and to allow plutocrats to drive it (or be driven) in low emission zone city centres. But I still can't hate it - beautiful car.
When all you make is 5,000 lbs plus executive luxury cars fleet emission standards are an absurdity that prove the stupidity of one size fits all policy making. Remember the Aston Martin Cygnet?
Loophole?
@@flacjacket Agreed. Just a shame that they've done this in such a cynical way for the WLTP rather than make it more genuinely low emission.
Somebody give that editor a raise 👏🔥
Stunning video and a great choice of purple colour for the car
Incredible cinematography in this one guys, wow and the car is unreal too!
28mpg today is a small step in the right direction for sure, and the straw ( I had to read it because I couldn't understand his accent calling it stroll and glacier as glassier LOL ) bio fuel is cool as well as the bio fuel too. Surprised you didn't try their Volcano fuel made from CO2, in Iceland (Volcanol?).
Production record is 240 mpg for a hybrid... (VW XL1 in 2015-2016 @ 240mpg usa or 280mpg imp. *not calculated with bio diesel).
What-a-video.
Great colors, great story telling and the colors! Including the purple of the B. Mind blowing
Such a great looking car in a beautiful setting! The shots captured in this video 😍
Cringed when he put the metal gas cap on that purple paint…come on now :/
That petrol filler cap is an abomination (@3:18).
gas cap against the paint made me shiver though
Welcome to an episode of how far can we stretch our budget to get on holiday ;)
Top Gear. Bentley. Iceland. Three of my favorite things😋
This video was astonishing !! The color was spot on and the purple on the Bentley seemed made for this environment.
Incredible production value, really well shot and beautiful grade as well. 🤩 and 4K as well!
The best I've seen from TG in years
Those Ariel shots are awesome
The fuel cap drop on the body drove me NUTS
Without doubt the most beautiful looking car review 😍😍😍😍
Must be the most beautiful TG video in a long long time.
Beautiful video. Why don't we get stuff like this on the Top Gear TV show instead of the cheap slapstick routines with the Chuckle Brothers?
28 miles to the gallon means as much to me as 17 purple frogs to the doorhandle. Great vid though!
"28 miles to the gallon means as much to me as 17 purple frogs to the doorhandle." 😂😂
That is definitely a Jeremy Clarkson level [statement] (temporarily forgot the technical term for that type of statement) you came up with, well done!
This has a whiff of ‘Harry and the Rolls’ about it. Great review - amazing scenery.
That is a really beautiful purple!
If this doesn't make you want to buy a Bentley and visit Iceland I don't know what will.
More disposable income
I've had only one favourite car video in recent times. And that's Carfection's Lambo Diablo SV video presented brilliantly by Henry Catchpole. But I've added this to my list. Absolutely astonishing and great narration by Ollie Marriage. Great narration backed up by breathtaking cinematography. Wonderful guys.
Bentley's and v6's definitely don't match, I'd much rather like to see a v8 hybrid to keep both parties happy
Ah yes, because keeping both parties "happy" is so much more important than actually doing something for the environment...
@@soerenbo The sort of people who buy these cars don’t care, they are low volume cars so their impact is insignificant
@@tippy35075 Well not really as the people who buy these often have the ecological footprint of dozens or even hundreds or thousands of "normal" folks. People with lots of money are on average exponentially worse for the environment than the average person. So if they at least started to care with cars like this it would make an impact.
Don't get me wrong, I love cars, but the careless attitude of some manufacturers when it comes to efficiency is just mind boggling sometimes.
A Bentley with a v6 is just wrong to me
Iceland has the distinction of being the Only country in the World to arrest it's National bankers for running up a massive debt. This is a very beautiful place I hope to visit some day. Thanks.
Absolutely Amazing 🖤🖤🖤
the procduction of this video is nothing short of breathtaking
Outrageous spec… Dunno if it’s more Bentley or more premiership footballer, but I guess the line is pretty blurry between those two things nowadays.
Video quality is on another level.👌
Isn't the test cycle simply too short to fairly factor in battery power?
There should be a "commuter" cycle and a "travel" cycle. Make the commuter cycle around 40 miles, the travel cycle more like 300 miles.
Maybe a comparison of stats compared to the other engine choices... W8, W12, V8 would have been helpful
What amazing nature!!! Top of the line Top Gear shoots
Absolutely stunning. Thank you from Canada. You made my day. You finally got me to subscribe. Great job!
the purple paint job looks so sick!
The only problem i have with cars like this is that 28MPG is "surprisingly efficient" for a big Bentley, but it's still very, very bad. Cars like this, for cruising and comfort need to go for electric or much, much more efficient alternative fuels. I am very much a car person, and have deep appreciation for a lot of them, but honestly to ignore the problems of our efficiency and economy with the environment just for comfort and "fun" is simply said ignorant. It's beyond me how so many people value the "roar" of a car so much more than the impact it has on each of us, and the blind hate against new ideas, to keep the idea of indivual mobility alive is staggering sometimes... I absolutly love the looks and idea of cars like this, but slapping a small e-motor on it and calling it a day for the next 5 years (or even more, who knows) just isn't even slightly enough. And they had so much time to do something...
Stunning scenery and photography/cinematography!👍👍👍
That's the same fuel Prodrive BRX are using in Dakar in the hunter driven by Loeb
Harry Metcalf's new review of the W12 Continental Speed version said he was getting over 27mpg on a motorway cruise. If that's true, cruising along at 50ish mph would surely be pretty similar mpg in both? Would have thought around town rather than on a long cruise would be where this has the advantage.
Yeah, exactly what I’ve just watched.
Top Gear has nothing on Harry, the journalist here just has no knowledge behind this facade of a review. And it shows.
@@gtjack9 I wouldn't go that far 😅 Ollie Marriage is very experienced
@@neillaw9867 Not at high speed, the drag coefficient and drivetrain are identical. It comes down to which engine is more efficient on a motorway because the motor is not used to cruise at motorway speeds
@@gtjack9 How can the drive train be the same when ones a twin turbo 6 liter W12 and the other is a V6 Hybrid. They couldnt be much more different and so they should be consuming fuel in vastly different amounts too. Everything you said makes no sense at all.
@@gtjack9 And the fact you dont know who Ollie is and think he knows nothing about what he is talking about shows you arent really that clued up about the subject of cars in general. Arnt built to cruise, they are GT cars thats exactly what they are built for.
If it's averaging 28 on the highway I would imagine it would at least average 35 in the city which is great
David Hale nailing it again with his drone shots! We're such fans of his work!
Insane Visuals!!
Iceland looks like a perfect wallpaper , such beautiful scenery with a gorgeous Bentley , also I’m sure that is that alternative fuel from Cars 2.
God bless Great Britain.
Finally a review for the hybrid flying spur !!! I've been waiting for this.
It's got Sticky Downy Bits.
Electric cars have almost nothing to do with stopping climate change.
The fact that people talk about it this way, and act like this, is the very reason why we are all going to die.
Its 2022 now. We still haven't taken any drastic measures to slow climate change, so that's about everything you need to know.
How entitled do you have to be, to look at climate change and say, well, if we all switch to driving electric cars, then im sure we'll all be fine.
28 mpg is not great for a modern hybrid. Still a good car nontheless.
🤦♂️
Grand tour is better…
Very good video. I like Ollie! He is a great presenter :)
one of the best top gear vid! what a scenery it is! amazing!
that really big glacier was one of the filming locations for interstellar
Staggering scenery & photography.
It’s so beautiful car. Especially with this colors. 10 out 10
amazing cinematography !
