I know what happened with the cheating, but i still wish he was still there. His cup of the day streams were so entertaining, and he won them very often, without cheating. What a bummer that he just disappeared after that…
it wasnt because riolu's a bad player that he cheated hes an extremely talented player its just every time you fail to get a run you know your capable of it hurts which is why some many speedrunners have cheated they cheat to get a time faster not because they arent capable of getting that time this is the major reason alot of communities have started requiring either live runs for their top players or a video recording with view of the controller
bro, you are speaking from my heart :((((((((
i hate him for what he did, but i hate him even more because he couldnt own up to it
F
Tbh he made the really poor choice of doubling down and absolutely trashing his friend rather than facing the consequences. Without that awful stream things would have been different
He disappeared because he made a fool out of himself, it wouldn't have worked with someone like that in the community, unless he owned up to what he had done, and maybe started to tell the story of how he ended up cheating himself, so that others didn't make the same mistake. But looks like his ego was to big.
@@phantorang Yeah obviously it was. I am not a huge fan of overboarding apologies, but in this case, a serious one was due.
I found it very cowardly that he just disappeared in shame…
my biggest takeaway from this was the supportiveness. No one getting mad, hating anyone, competitors were actually impressed and supportive of someone with strong driving skills.
Everyone's busy honing their precision driving skills rather than wasting time being toxic
Stay humble kings
It think it's because this is not a PvP game, you simply compete alone and compare your time, also there's no RNG.
@@azekia Also the community is so insulated that it doesn't attract scriptkiddies so people aren't likely to immediately cry foul when a new guy shows up and does well
I remember people once saying the same thing about old quake multiplayer games and praised top fraggers. But I guess sportsmanship dies when little kids(or child minded people) are involved
The reason there's so much supportiveness and sportsmanship in games like this is because there's no direct PvP. There's no direct match where the actions of one player influence another player. This game is just raw driving and racing skills. There's no cheap trick, no "he's playing like a b*tch" type of stuff that can be done. So games like this will have a much higher degree of sportsmanship than a lot of other sports/games/competitions/etc.
It's fantastic, and I wish it could extend to a lot of other competitions in life.

Him saying "But in the world's most competitive racing game" has the same energy as "The oldest anarchy server in Minecraft
With the exception that cheating is fine on the oldest anarchy server in Minecraft. It's sad that Riolu won this event, just days before Wirtual uncovered his cheating history.
@@renerpho While this is true, it's worth remembering that riolu is still an extremely good player and his online, streamed runs on which no cheating was found, are still far into the most elite. I don't know if we'll ever know his motives but skill wasn't one of them, he had the skill to get those records legitimately but chose to do them illegitimately. Whether he was annoyed with failures, didn't want to commit the time required, or felt entitled to the records, it doesn't matter much.
The point is that Riolu is still an extremely skilled player, and as those were live runs the use of slow motion timespeed manipulation wasn't used in them, regardless of the fact he's been caught having cheated several of his records, he still won that competition fair and square. I just wish he's come clean about his cheated runs, admitting to it may impact his reputation but the speedrun community in general seems quite willing for forgive people for making bad decisions if they own up to it and prove they can change, by continuing to claim innocence in face of overwhelming evidence will make it harder for people to forgive.
@@DreadKyller I agree with you on most of your points! Regarding Riolu's motives, I guess I go with Karl Jobst: Skilled players don't cheat to get a good time, they cheat to get a good time faster.
What's sad about the run in the video is not that Riolu was playing unfairly, but that Wirtual almost certainly knew that he had cheated at the time of this run. I don't know, it just leaves a bitter taste.
What you say about speaking up is interesting. It would be nice if those who were caught cheating would own up to their mistakes; it would be healthy both for them, and for the community as a whole. Unfortunately we don't see that very often. I am not sure I agree that the speedrun community in general is willing to forgive. What leads you to that assumption?
As a side note, have you seen Karl Jobst's video about Dream (maybe not) cheating? It's an interesting lesson in bad communication, among other things. ua-cam.com/video/G3Yzk-3SZfs/v-deo.html

Hahaha, this was sooo fun to watch, and I don't even play TM at all! What made this video so fun for me was how welcoming and supportive the other competitors were! Despite they're the top players, they were so pleasant, welcoming and respectful towards the "new challenger" Mufat. If this is how the top players are like, then TM got one awesome community that must be fun to be a part of. Well done. :) PS: As a fellow norwegian, it was fun seeing Wirtual do this and even manage to do it so well! Loved it.
This what i love about these small competitive communities. Completely random new player competes with the best of the best and pros in a game but nobody speaks bad of them and actually understands they are good and compliment them...love this community so much
It's not the size of the community, it's the nature of the game. This game is solely based on how good your driving is, and that's the only thing it's based on. I can't interact with you to mess up your lap. I can't pull any cheap tricks or maneuvers to beat you. Games with direct competition, where one players actions influence another player, will always be more competitive and "toxic" than a game where everyone is competing based on skill alone.
I mean from the clips it seems like a lot of them just assumed it was an established player's smurf account, but I agree with you either way. Definitely a wholesome community
I love how wholesome everyone was towards the “new guy”.. nice to see considering I’ve never played nor watched a video until this !! ((:

I thought they suspect he is cheating BC its so suspicious. No new player should be able to beat that many pros, so it pretty much has to be a smurf account or a hacker.
@@snakemaster2 can't really hack in trackmania, especially cup of the day which is a pretty much randomly selected map so really no way you could even have macros or a tool that plays it perfectly for you.
