Dodie wrote Lonely Bones during lockdown and I think that really informs what it's about.
hot mess was the first song written for the monthly project she's been doing where she's putting out a song on yt every month! so thats why theres lines about new years and stuff :)
yes! got weird is about feeling weird after going out with a girl and having some sort of internalized homophobia.
dodie revealed that they wrote no big deal on the guys piano lmao
Ooh, I really love your interpretation of No Big Deal because it’s so different from how I interpreted it.
I thought of it as being in a relationship where you want to tell the other person you love them but you’re afraid that you’ll say it too soon and they’ll get freaked out. You keep telling yourself it’s not a big deal that they haven’t said it yet, but if it’s not a big deal why are you afraid to say it to them first?
I think I mostly thought of it that way because of the lines “I love you would be far too easy” and “not that I wouldn’t say it first cause I would. It’s no big deal”. They made me think the singer was holding themselves back from saying I love you until their partner does, even though they really want to say it now.
Your interpretation of it being about going at your own pace and having it be ok to feel what you’re feeling without rushing to say it is much nicer 👍
So Lonely Bones, Dodie made a UA-cam short about how she did the la las!!! Final recording is her and Greta doing it over and over in the studio and I think Pete her producer pops in once too. Also Dodie's spoken part right before that says "Alright, ready to gang vocals, without the gang!" which is a little goof and gag. It's literally from her demo when working on the layering but she's only one person y'know haha. I love it because it's an acknowledgement that when she was just starting in on writing the song she knew she was totally going to have her close friends vocals in there!!
Hey Bill! I think it'd be really cool if you revisited Chloe Moriondo and some of their music as it's really changed since their Spirit Orb EP!

Bill! Have you heard of The Crane Wives? They’re my favorite band and I haven’t seen anyone reacting to their music. It would be cool if you reacted to them. I've known of Dodie for a while now but never actually gave her music a listen. I figured watching this would be a good way for me to see if I might be into it. Her voice is lovely!! It reminds me of Tessa Violet (which is a good thing!) I'm gonna go listen to this EP myself :)
Also, different genres but still UA-cam musicians, are you familiar with either Jonathan Young or Chase Holfelder? If not, I recommend them! Jonathan is mostly known for his heavier covers of Disney Villain songs and Chase is known for his "Major to Minor" series where he creates minor key versions of popular major key songs.
Her and Tessa are super close and have toured together! They’re styles definitely match!
you should definitely listen to conan grays superache if you haven’t!! or just these tracks if you don’t want to do the whole album: astronomy, jigsaw, family line, yours, memories, footnote!!

have you heard of The Fromt Bottoms? I've only heard of theur Rose album and two more songs but i think you'll like how they write lyrics and the main vocals is also pretty unique

Idk if you're looking for some Christmas/holiday related things to react to, BUT...if you are I definitely think you should check out Starkid's VHS Christmas Carol! They just recently posted their live show of it (on youtube), and it's incredible. They did a musical retelling of A Christmas Carol, but with an 80's vibe. I really think you'd dig it, and it'd be perfect for the holiday season!
