I'm a senior and I have 1000 hours of patient care, I work as an emt while attending school. if you guys want to become EMTs while going to school I highly recommend it. You can work per diem (Picking shifts whenever you want). I took the accelerated course which is two months. I'm planning on going to PA school also.
TheClassic_ 1800s Hi! Which EMT program did you go to? I saw that a lot of the EMT courses online take about 1-2 years. Just wondering where to find the accelerated course:) thanks in advance!
@@TheClassic_s Oops..Maybe I misunderstood it. It says "Program options include short training options of about three months or a 2-year associate's degree program." So I guess a short training would be enough to apply for a job?
I am a Junior in college majoring in Neuroscience and I have wanted to be a PA since finding out about the profession WAY back as a Freshman in high school. Back then, I had to explain to people what a PA was since the profession had little exposure but now, it is literally everywhere. People are shifting from medical school to PA school which terrifies me due to the competition.
Thank you for the video. I feel so much better with my GPA of 3.20. I am a registered respiratory therapist and I am planning to go to PA school after I finished my bachelor and get my critical care training from my Hospital. Your videos gave me hope and I know I will get in the days to come. :)
Thanks for the video! Can you make a video talking about how your week looks like? Like which days you work, how many days a week and what your typical stress levels are? Thanks!!
If I became a PA, I would want to work in surgery like yourself. I want to become a scrub tech first. I moved to a different state after my post grad and waiting to qualify for in-state tuition so I can get that started. My post grad is absolutely unrelated. I have gotten the opportunity to experience what a slow-paced job is like (current job), where I sit all day in a little box. I hate it. I want to spread my wings. It's very helpful to see videos like this. Thanks for posting.
How did you find a way to get that patient care experience if you weren’t certified as a medical assistant previously and had to obtain that certification later did the school help you get the job as a medical assistant to get patient care experience? do you think that you can make a video on how you can obtain patient care experience without having to take Time off from school to become certified through a program?
This was so helpful! I'm currently a second year biology major at UCSB and I've been considering PA school. Could you talk about how PA school was like? What was a typical day like in school? Thanks!
Thank you for this video! I'm an aspiring PA and a sophomore in college and having a super high gpa seems like the most important thing and it takes away from so much and stresses me so much love your videos so far!!
I am currently going to school to be a Medical Assitant and I am looking to further my education to become a PA. I do not have any experience in the medical field. What would you recommend on my journey as a student of medical assistant to becoming a PA? Could you guide on steps to start taking, please?
Hi Kendra! I was curious how you got your job as an MA. Did you go through a Medical Assistant course and get certified? I'm working on my Patient care hours now before applying to PA school. Thanks!
Is your application still considered 'competitive' even if you had to take a gap year? I recently decided to switch from pharmacy to PA school during my senior year of undergrad. If I wanted to get the 'experience' many schools require I would need the gap year.
Of course! Everyone has their own personal situations and a chance to explain them on their personal statement :) I worked for 8 months and applied to PA school while I was doing it. Sorry for the late response!
Currently a nursing major at ucla, planning to become a nurse practitioner or pa, what do you recommend? Or do you think I should just switch to boi for undergrad?
Hey so I'm s physical therapist. If I go to PA school., Can I say I had patient care hours from when first started working? Or it had to be logged.? Or how does it work
If you can't tolerate doing an IV stick, you're not going to be able to tolerate quite a few other things in the medical field. In PA school you will do rotations through surgery where you will be performing many more "gross" things than a simple stick haha.
Do CNA work you can go to the DOL and ask about the CNA training which is no cost to you and you can get patient hours that way and as well as get paid.
when do you recommend we start shadowing? and do you HAVE to declare a specialty in PA school cause I know you’re surgical! I love your videos, they help a lot :)
Thanks for this video! I am a psych major at a well-known 4-year university and I want to be a PA but I only have a 3.0 GPA:( I am a sophomore right now, but I have the opportunity to graduate a year early next year, but only if I don't take my science prereqs at my university, but do it at a Community college after I graduate. Would this be a bad idea? I'm thinking it would save me a lot of money plus I could use that year as a part-time student to bring up my pce hours, but I don't know if it would look to leave my 4-year (with a pretty low gpa) to go to a CC where my grades would probably be better.
Have you met anyone that was a medical social worker and transitioned into PA? I am not sure if my hours would count for PA school, since it is hands on care with patients
How do you ask someone to call the PA school school after your interview, especially if they have some connection with the program? Like what should I ask them to say to the program? How do you really go about it without being too much? Idk if I made sense but just wondering incase I would have to do that.
do you have to get certified to get a job as medical assistant ? im currently a optemetric tech. is there any way to get the job without certification?
Can you do a video on what is on the GRE and how to study? Or what are the rotations of PA school? Also, you should do a video about being a medical assistant! I’m thinking about becoming one!
Hi Kendra! Thanks for making this video. I had no idea you were in South Florida!! I was accepted to Keiser’s program this cycle but I’ll be attending NSU’s program in Fort Lauderdale next week since it was my top choice. Is it okay if I PM for tips and possibly meet up?! I am also very interested in surgery. Thanks in advance! :)
Its human nature to talk to faces, and watch faces while talking, even if it’s our own it’s more natural than talking to a camera lens. Literally have to override instinct to force yourself to look into the lens, it’s not easy and feels awkward and unnatural as hell.
I'm having trouble planning the exact prerequisites I'll need for PA school. What do you think is the general rule of thumb about that? (for example, I'm seeing that some schools need 8 hours of Organic Chem, but some don't need any at all. Or some programs require two psych classes as opposed to one) Thanks!!
Hi Kendra! I have a question! Did the plastic surgeon have any affiliations to the PA program of Keiser University, and therefore was able to call up the program director?
Kristy Lee no he did not but the program director was in my interview so I knew his name and told my doctor who to ask for. Also I’m pretty sure they can just ask for the program director and not have their name. As long as they say hi I’m doctor so and so they usually will transfer them lol
Thanks for you reply! :) I also would like to ask what responsibilities you had as a medical assistant given that you did not have a certificate. I am getting an interview for a medical assistant job but do not have a certificate and the most I have ever done before this is take simple vitals (height, weight, temp and machine BP). I was wondering from your experience did the clinic still task you with nursing responsibilities? Thanks! ^^
You can get a student loan for a basket weaving degree if you wish. It just might lean towards private loans with a higher interest rate because the government only lends so much a year

Hey Kendra! I was wondering what you ended up getting your bachelors in, because you mentioned the changes in majors that you had throughout your time at FSU, but I don’t think you mentioned what you ended up majoring in exactly. I’m curious because I assume that your bachelors major is what helped you get a job working with a plastic surgeon. Thank you! :)

Kendra Lynne exactly the Florida college system is so weird 🤦🏾♀️ I just found out I’m undecided major when I know I picked psychology pre med 🙄 but 🤷🏾♀️
I want to pursue a PA program at a university, but get my Bachelors at a community college. This community college does not offer any science majors and the closest thing that could possibly help me get into the PA program is a Bachelors in Health Care Administration. Do you think I should pursue that for my BS or should I attend a University and get my BS in Biology? #AspiringPA #PleaseHelp
Sha'Chorace Phelps The most important thing when trying to go to PA school is getting all of the prerequisite classes done. You can really major in anything you want, as long as you complete all of the prereq classes that the PA school requires. You can find this by researching the PA schools you are interested in. I’m currently a nursing student and plan on applying for PA school after I’m done with school this year. My question for you is, did you work while in PA school? And if so, do you recommend it?
