I made one of those $5 gambles this week. I hit a local vintage/antique/booth shop, went to the corner guy who has a bin of postcards and photos all thrown together in whatever way. Pawed through those and pulled out a few. Asked before I left if they had any more vendors with postcards. She took me to one that had a small basket with sleeved and labeled cards. Only about 20 cards in the basket. I looked a few up, they were all at ebay prices. I saw one that was an RPPC for $5 that brought up no visual results. It looked pretty unique so I decided to take the gamble. Got home and researched it. Ebay and Terapeak showed nothing. Worthpoint showed about 6 that sold all between 2017 and 2018. Cheapest sold for $10, highest sold for $255. One other postcard from the area sold for $100. So I took a gamble and listed mine at $390. It's hard to say where the market is at today, but it was a pretty neat find.
That’s awesome! Although it can be frustrating when there’s such a wide range of sold comps and they’re all several years ago. It might just need to wait for the right collector to come along. I’ve had high dollar cards sit for a while before selling, but still sell at full price!
I handwrite my postcard envelopes, because I do not sell enough to cover a cost of making a label or even printing on paper and taping it on, which is what I do with my non-postcard ebay sales and the BCW sleeves are what I have used and reordered from different sellers...I raised the prices of all my postcards and it did not hurt the frequency of my sales, I think the mistake most people make is under pricing their cards.
My Epson Eco tank makes inventory and shipping labels great. Im still useing ink I got with it over 3 years ago half full. Done a ton of printing when i was training for drone and private pilot studies.

Great video, I love my Epson 480w it is well worth it. I did buy a jadens thermal printer and so far I have no issues with it and works great, big time saver for sure on both of those items. I have started out with the lower cost postcards but I know I will gradually get into the higher price cards as I learn.

I order 25 mailers from Ecoswift. It stop tracking from Utah to Atlanta after 4 days. Ordered on Jan. 23. Got to GA on Jan 26. Still not show up in Pensacola area. 10 days shipping.

I want to start learning about postcards to become re-seller so watch your videos with great interest. I have done some preliminary research here in the UK but your videos are so informative. I’ve been doing 100 per day this month and it typically takes 3-4 hours from start to finish. I do everything in stages, starting by scanning all postcards, uploading images and preparing drafts, titling all listings, and pricing. For pricing I just copy and paste part of the title into eBay, WorthPoint, and sometimes Terapeak. I know what I’m looking for so it usually takes 30-45 seconds to come up with a price unless it’s a more unusual card.
@@mailseum So, sounds like you are using eBay's platform, not a third-party listing tool? I scan in batches with an Epson ES-400 but I can see how researching prices and writing titles in batches could help save time as well.
I have been looking at Live Auctioneers & Hi-Bid but have not put a bid yet because I guess I am looking for the perfect lot but what parameters should I look for when bidding.
Antique albums are usually great because they are not picked through (most of the time) and can have amazing cards. I also look for retiring dealer stock (much larger quantities for lower price per card). With any lot you are thinking of bidding on, make sure you see at least some postcards that show it hasn’t been picked through. I usually look for smaller town postcards and RPPCs. I typically avoid lots where I can see Halloween and sometimes Santas because they get bid up higher than I’m willing to go.
Yeah I will probably get on WhatNot sometime this year! I want to have all my backstock organized a bit before getting on so I can sell groups by state or theme like Christmas.
Influencers and youtubers bring in new competition. This space is challenging to make money in. Your own numbers at 30 seconds in reveal you didnt make anywhere near your title. It will get more challenging with every video like this released. I cant imagine diluting your own market is worth the youtube clicks.
There’s a lot more to being successful reselling than watching a UA-cam video. It takes years of hard work and postcards have a fairly steep learning curve. There are hundreds of millions of postcards for sale online, so I’m not too worried that my little channel will cause a flood of new sellers into the market. What it can do, though, is help folks make ends meet or earn extra income on the side or in retirement. And if someone puts in the years of work required and gets really good at it, it can even be a full-time job.

Couple questions: the 20% offer you run, how many buyers are purchasing two or more cards? How long does it take you to list 50 cards? Honestly not many 20% offer sales ever since I turned on best offer for all my listings. Previously if a buyer wanted a discount they would look for a cheaper card and add it to their order to get 20% off. Now they just send me an offer. Sales are up though, so I can’t complain. If I am going super fast and can get 50 done in an hour from scanning to listings going live. If I am spending more time with each card it usually takes 1.5-2 hours to list 50.
The learning curve with postcards is not as difficult as stamps but it remains quite challenging to know everything about the trade. I've heard about postcard value books that are out of print, go for quite a bit of money and require some adjustments for inflation due to their age.
Yes I do - my sales improve tremendously when promoting. I recommend starting out with a low percentage and seeing what works for you. I’ve settled on 6%.
I use eBay international shipping and I had a buyer this week that wanted to buy 3 postcards but said eBay is a rip off. Who and how do you ship internationally and I lost the sale?
I just use international Forever stamps from USPS and they work great! One stamp ships anywhere in the world for a 1 oz letter, and they are about $1.50 each I believe. I bought them directly from the Postal Service.
Okay Daniel so I use eBay International Shipping and I keep having customers telling me it's too expensive. Do I opt out of eBay shipping completely and list free shipping then buy the international USPS postage forever stamp?
@jungleman49 no, you don’t have to opt out of eBay international shipping. If you have business policies, which I highly recommend, edit your shipping policy. Under international shipping, the first thing listed is eBay international shipping. Under that, you can choose to offer “other international shipping services.” I choose to ship worldwide using the method “USPS First Class Mail International Letter” and charge $2.50 for that. Once you add that service, eBay may show buyers both options - however in my experience they always pick the cheaper option.
I finished 2023 with an average sales price per postcard at $33.24. I'm looking to better that average in 2024!

Yes, I put them all in sleeves and I label each postcard with an individual number for my inventory!
As I can see on average postcards on eBay are sold for 1-3 USD. I haven't seen a single postcard sold for 15 USD.
