  • Chicken Corn Soup is a classic Pennsylvania Dutch food and found in most restaurants in Lancaster, PA (and York, PA, where I grew up).
Easy to make but takes time. This was my mother-in-law's recipe who grew up in York, PA making all sorts of delicious Pennsylvania Dutch recipes. She was one of the best cooks!
Recipe and ingredient list at end of video!

I grew up on this soup...Aunt Kitty's in particular when we wanted a "canned" soup! I love Pennsylvania Dutch food. When I visit my family in PA we always spend a day in and around Lancaster and have a great lunch at The Shady Maple! Thank you for sharing this recipe. I will certainly make it.

Thanks for showing us to make chicken corn soup. We have never had it before. We have had potato corn soup before. Looks like a good meal on a cold day.

One of our favorite soups when at Lancaster. Not really hard to make at home, it’s delicious and worth the effort. We always add potatoes.

Soup looks good. A lot of work, I think we will try to find some the week after next when we go looking for winter. Our A/C is running now(low 80's). Thanks for inviting us into your kitchen.

Hi Joan 😊 I do take them out but it wouldn’t hurt to leave them in if you would want extra pizzaz 😆 but they get pretty mushy ;)

Yeah I’ll have to pay better attention to how the different restaurants serve it in Lancaster. This is the way we always ate it. I guess in my mind the thing that differentiates this from chicken noodle soup is the fact that there are no noodles 😆🤩 But in reality, it’s good with it without noodles and even with or without potatoes ☺️

I tried this at one of the buffets. It was really good, although I’m going to respectfully disagree about the noodles. But I love carbs, so there’s that.

I'm not a huge fan of egg noodles, but having grown up in Lancaster county my Grandmother always added rivels. Similar but different to the noodles, still carbs and it helps thicken the soup (rivel recipe is 1 egg, 1 cup flour, mix together and add a tablespoon of water or so at a time until you get little balls of dough - don't want a giant dough ball, think pea sized). Oh, and I know this creator didn't add it, but many do add some saffron to the soup and let it steep while hot, before the chicken is returned to the pot. Adds amazing flavor, and Lancaster County has a wonderful tradition of growing saffron locally.
