I have not long been practising playing the violin, even though I play basic but the glee I feel when I can play a piece of music is indescribable. I have my ambitions set on playing the cello and then the double bass. Seeing Apocalyptica all those years ago at the Brixton Academy in London, and listening to their beautiful collection of music, gave me the inspiration to pursue my dream; these amazing guys are pure magic.
Perttu is absolutely amazing. He is why I have considered buying myself a student cello...and why I have talked myself out of it. Reality sets in. I could never master the instrument; as he obviously has.
It takes some work but the instrument is not so impossible. Farewell would take time to practice but still, it is not the hardest piece. What would be really hard for me is actually to "touch" this song on cello. It's like touching something divine. Something that should remain pure and perfect...
The most common theory is that it was written for his ex-wife, Laura. So I would think those memories and feelings come back to the surface when he plays it.
