I just finished modifying and painting my 1:6 scale Jeep to have a working side mirror and wipers, working pivoting axe carrier and sheath, correct tail lights and trailer socket cover. I wish they'd had leaf springs on it as well as the toolboxes in the rear like this 1:12 does. As far as the lights on the 1:12 scale- the blackout light located on the fender shouldn't be a headlight but a narrow beam of light that comes out, and while the 'turn signals' are modeled correctly, they should be marker lights- small dimly lit lights that serve as indicators where the vehicle is on the road in blackout/low light situations. The tail lights should actually be just the one on the driver side, and act as a stop light, the other should also be a blackout stop indicator, with both having marker lights on the bottom as well. I realize I'm being nitpicky, but for the discerning jeep aficionado this is what we look for and notice.
I came here to say this. To reiterate, the turn signal lights are wrong--these jeeps did not have turn signals, but where Roc Hobby put turn signals on the model, they are in fact supposed to be blackout marker lights or "cat eyes" that work independently of the regular "service drive" headlights. Not amber light either, but small "pips" of dim white light. These tiny emissions of light were intended to minimize visibility by the enemy but still allow operation in darkness. I'm definitely modding mine {when I get it} to eliminate the turn signal lights and make the blackout drive light emit just a tiny sliver of light, and whatever else the model needs to look right.
Looks great. They mixed features from both the Willys MB (front bumper has only 1 hole on the front face) and Ford GPW (ribbed tool box lids). Probably some other details, too, but that's what you might find in a motor pool after a couple of repairs.
Hi, Just received mine, Impressive truck and radio set. Managed to switch off the blinkers. The 2 gears are a great feature for crawling and normal scale speed running. The size makes it so easy to transport.
The small lights under the headlights are not indicators. They are blackout marker lights, also for driving in convoy at night. They have distancing prisms inside that converge the lighting so the vehicle behind can judge the distance from the vehicle in front in the dark with no headlights on,..pretty scary in my opinion but that's the way it was done. Driving a jeep is great fun. Your spine pays for it though. The suspension is military grade,..rock hard !
Nice jeep and nice video. No, the original WW2 jeep did not have "blinkers". Those lights were blackout driving marker lights. The one on the fender was also a black-out driving light. It is incorrectly all lit up like a fog light or something. The real light throws just a wee bit of light in front of the vehicle so that the driver can drive and not be seen by aircraft.
Hiya,..l own a 1944 Ford GPW jeep. It's virtually identical except to the Willys jeep. During the war, Willys and Ford produced the jeeps to keep up with the demand. Those model jeeps are very close to the real thing, especially the smaller scale vehicle.. The light on the left front guard is a blackout light for driving in convoys at night when the headlights were turned off.
Epic review Steve, Really love what Rochobby are doing with these things as EVERYONE loves them. Is there a way to get a bit more steering though? Hope it's just the dual rates turned down. Needs more lock! The canvas seats and details are epic!!! Think I need this in my collection. That last shot just had me thinking with them side by side of ones Dad's Jeep... the other is the kids jeep hahaha epic models.
Isn't the limitation on the steering due to the front dogbone axles? I'm assuming it does not have the universal joint steering knuckles that the C34KM has {which provide an extreme turning angle}.
They did a whole lot better job on the small guy. The 1/6 is good but the regular crawler chassis takes the scale away, Atwell with all the smaller detail like the fuel tank, hood, leafs. Definitely getting one.
Your 1/6 MB driver has his helmet on backwards. You'll know it when you see it, because the front has more of a cap style visor molded into the "steel pot". But whatever, it's probably your personal preference. ...😜
@@RCTanksTrucks247 I couldn´t agree more. However, when it comes to jeeps and scale, my ultimate favourite is the 1:1 1943 Willys parked before my home. It can be seen on Google maps.
Is this proportional throttle and steering? I know the steering angle is so minimal that it's only good enough for changing lanes LOL, but from the way you were driving it it seemed to have only ON and OFF speed and full left and full right steering. I don't much like the way it comes to an immediate halt and doesn't coast, but maybe that's the drag brake?
Steve. The 1/12 scale is more to scale then the other one. I was in the U.S military and did ride in these back in the day. Would like a link to find out how much the 1/6 scale
Are the differential opened like the Kubelwagen type 82 ? I mean if you turn one wheel , the opposite wherl turns in the opposite direction ... well I hope so .. thanks
@@RCTanksTrucks247 the last Heng Long Tiger 1 I brought a few years ago was about $200 I’m looking on Evil bay and the are mostly around the $500 with the metal tracks and gear box does that sound right ?
They could have given it a tighter steering radius, it looks like it couldn’t do a circle in less than a 6 foot area, that would get irritating real quick
Great review! Just got mine a week or so ago & the detail is incredible. Agree it needs a driver, but finding a 1/12 scale Army figure at a reasonable price ($25.00 to $50.00 US) is a challenge. I've found very detailed figures that look great but cost $100.00 & up. Anyone know of a good source for these?
did you have any luck? Im buying the unlicensed Saving Private Ryan figs and I hope they fit. Otherwise the best fig I have found is the new 6in Duke GI Joe fig
Ayup steve that 1/6 from banggood says it dont exist but the 1st time i clicked on it it did n now its gone was off to compare the price difference of them both n im sure the bigger one was £239 brittish pounds n smaller ones £196 but cant say for deffo now as 1/6th ones gone now lol can you redo the link incase its avin a belly ache 👍👍

Thanks for watching mate 👍
Man that small jeep looks sweet! And very realistic with the leaf springs and realistic axles! Way better than the 1/6 scale! Nice 👌
Hello ! This 1/12 version of ROCHOBBY is really cool ! Really very well detailed ! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks, glad you like the video

Saving up for one currently, I am very excited because I collect Willy’s jeeps. And I love to read about ww2.
Awesome, they are amazing RCs
I’m so exited, that are amazing!
Wow - what a great product!!!

Yeah I have both. They both are awesome. The 1/6 is great for the large figures
I hope they could do a 1 10th scale
Yeah, definitely seems the most popular scale

Not sure man
IMHO the small model looks a world better than the big one. Especially from below (leaf springs). What about some weights and measures of the models?
Definitely love the smaller ones.

I wonder how well these will look next to the Heng Long and TaiGen rc tanks, they are 1/16 but 1/12 May be close enough.
Nah still look too off

Absolutely it is proportional. It's a quality car

No
How do I adjust steering to center my

Steering trim on the transmitter
All that detail but no e-brake pull handle. Still a great-looking rig. And is that a mounting location for a heavy machinegun between the seats?

Weird yeah but they have done a great job

Locked from memory. It is good for crawling
