The Duchess of Windsor had an incredible jewelry collection. Her collection rivaled any heiress or royal of the time. All of her jewels were bold and interesting. I like all of the pieces, but the Cartier flamingo brooch might be my favorite. How many women can say they have a Cartier flamingo brooch as adornment?
With the exception of Meghan Markle none of the women of the Royal Family would be caught dead wearing that tacky loud flamingo broach even as a joke.

Yes, but Donating them to be auctioned off for Charity was very generous indeed. These Charities would’ve never received anything like this had Wallis not received them. They certainly benefited which was a lovely thing to happen. I applaud her actions

Lots of shopping. What fun it all must have been! But, later, the show is over. You end up a total ageing decrepit wreck, being abused by servants. Had it all been worth it? Who knows what her thoughts could have been in he final moments? Truth is that Wallis Simpson was not quite bright enough to understand that she was on a hiding to nothing. RIP.

What most people need to learn about the former Duke of Windsor is that when he abdicated the throne, he kept the Duchy of Cornwall and all its revenue to himself. This is where 99% of the revenue for the King or Queen of the UK is from. It caused many problems for George VI. The King was not poor by normal standards, but he was by Royal standards. Remember, all the jewels you see on any Royal are not personally owned by them. They are owned by the Crown Jewler and loaned to them. Exceptions are for engagement rings, wedding rings, or gifts between spouses bought for or by them. What happened with the former King Edward VIII keeping the crown's revenue made him extremely rich, so he could lavish his wife Wallis Simpson with loads and loads of expensive jewels. When he died his wills was set that she was to keep a lifestyle she was acustom too. After her own death, everything was sent back to the Royal family of the UK.

@@huolalupin6008 Since you did not reply about why they were sent to the Bahamas. The UK Gov send them there to be the Governor to the Bahamas from Portugal where they were in sort of vacations. The reason they did this was because the Duke and Duchess were PRO-NAZI; they visited Hitler and were invited to his retreat in Bergof, in the town of Berchtesgaden. Hitler wanted to kidnap the Duke and Duchess to put them back on the Throne in the UK.

After he abdicated, it was negotiated that his brother, George VI, would pay him an additional yearly income in return for handing over Sandringham and Balmoral, which he inherited as private property from George V. Some sources say that Elizabeth II continued the payments for the rest of Wallis's life, but that's unclear.
